Hi everyone! Thought I'd drop in and say hello seeing as I'm new around here...

My back story is a little chequered - I have a very bad relationship with food, and grew up very overweight. I weighed 19st 10lbs (276lbs) by the time I was 18, and that may not even have been the heaviest I was! Over the last eight years, I've done a lot of work on myself and I've managed to lose a fairly stonking 114lbs, but just seem to be having trouble shifting the last few pounds. Ideally I want to get down to 138lbs - only because then I can say hand on heart that I've lost exactly 50% of my body weight - but it'll be nice just to get myself into the normal BMI range!

I'm doing the Cambridge diet at the moment, but finding it really hard to get back into after Christmas. As a compensation, I'm doing a huge amount of training - I go to the gym twice a day, and do a lot of kickboxing and running. Really I just want to push my fitness levels up, get myself back into the diet, and be at my target weight and maintaining it by the time my 27th birthday rocks around in June. I'm toying with the idea of running a half-marathon in the autumn, but not sure if I'm ever really going to get to that level of fitness as just 5 miles seems to be killing me at the minute!

Tania, your story is fantastic! I'm so completely proud of how much you've done and how quickly you've accomlished it all!! It took you 19 years to gain all that weight -- to lose so much and become so healthy in 8 is fantastic! You are extremely dedicated and deserve all the happiness in the world!

I've just decided in the past two years that I really need to turn my life around and get in shape. I was at about 199 lbs in November 2005 and I hated what I saw in the mirror because I felt uncomfortable all the time. I'm down to 179 now in about a year of training with 40 more lbs until my goal. I don't have nearly the time you do to work out, but I'm trying to be conscious of what I can do to make myself healthier. I hope to someday be a success story like you are!

-Sandra

Tania, I say sign up for the Marathon. Doing so will make you train for it. What's the worst that can happen, you finish it by walking?
Push yourself, you can do it!

Sandra, *blush* thank you. It sounds like you are working really hard too, and are getting to where you want to be. I often think a good 90% of the reward is the journey rather than getting there - sometimes I wonder what I'm going to go with myself when I lose the final pounds!

As to time - well, I get up at 6am, go to the gym straightaway and get into the office by 8.30am. Then I go back at lunchtime! I'm very much helped by having an onsite gym that I can make use of, which means that it only takes me an hour and a half including changing and showering to go and do a decent length workout!

Very best of luck with your goals!
