hi everyone, im new here. i started my exercise routine loosely about a month ago. When i started i was 158. As of the past week ive been exercising everyday and i hope this helps me stay motivated. im 152 right now and hope to get to 120 by july.

i could use some suggestions on how to make my elliptical workout less boring. ive tried doing it in front of the tv and to music, but i get bored really easy.

thanks! hope to get to know everyone

If the elliptical is boring to you, try something else! TV and music would have been my suggestions. If that doesn't cure it, I don't know what would.

You can always go jogging or walking. Though, I must admit, the weather is enough to keep me indoors. You can walk in place - yes, it burns calories too! Or you can do Jumping Jacks, etc. You can buy a step and step up and down while you watch TV.

There are many, many options.

Danielle, i have been using the elliptical for the past 6 months. I think the only fun way of working out on the elliptical is doing intervals. Since you've been working out for a month, i wouldnt suggest doing high intensity...but you can add in a couple of intervals to get more output.

What Sher said!

If I'm not watching the TV or anything, I do intervals, and the immensely strong desire to get through the difficult interval is pretty damn interesting... Push yourself for a minute or two (hard! be sweating and swearing at those seconds to tick by), then go at a slower pace for two or three minutes. Doing that for about 30min per session will not only leave you dead tired, but be an AMAZING workout. Also, through the whole workout, determine a pace that you will not go under (say 70RPM), if it is somewhat challenging, watching that for a couple minutes will keep your attention as well.

could you put in a dvd or a book on tape while on the elliptical? try different programs on the elliptical? do the elliptical while pedaling backwards?

I agree, Thats what my recommendation would be too. I love movies so I try to select a movie I love and then only allow my self to watch it when I exercise. If I don't finish the movie I stop it and wont watch the end until the next time I work out. But it really helps distract me.

I agree with Sher. When you start doing those intervals...WHOO! Such a rush, and exhausting, but in a good way.

Another good cardio exercise is jump rope. They're pretty cheap ($4 from Wal-Mart) and are a GREAT workout. I thought I would pass out after 5 mintues!

Good luck!
