hi, i am living at my soon to be inlaws house with my fiancee, mike, and am currently waiting for a job at 6 flags in summer time so right now i have no money or job to buy my own food, Mike's mom buys the food and usually makes homemade food or we eat takeout which is bad but i have barely any control over what we have for lunch and dinner and i have no clue how much sugar or fat is in those homemade meals which are sometimes, i know, is loaded with fat. i do my best to find out on the take outs where i at least have control of what i get, but my question is what should i do to make sure the homemade meals doesn't mess with my wieght? anything i can do other than eat less because i am already eating just enough to get me through till the next meal with the fatty looking foods, and im excercising every morning, any tips for before or after meal things i need to do or tell me what you usually do? i need help so id appreciate your replys ^_^

I've been working in an IT position for the past 8 years, and I didn't get a lot of exercise. I'm changing that now with the help of Traineo. I'm looking for my 6 pack.. it's in there somewhere...

Ok, I had just finished typing out my response to your post and I made the mistake of doing a spell check... don't do it... I lost all my edits.
Three things to sum up:
1) if you're not already doing this, then try eating less of the unhealthy food and consume more water.
2) you can't live on water alone, so (in agreement with "the new me") ask to help out with shopping and cooking decisions.
3) involve someone else in the house with your healthy diet plans. the more people on board with you, the easier the journey should be... especially if the person you get involved buys the groceries.

Success is not a race, be patient. Success leads to success. Success is always a work in progress. Success doesn't come to you--you go to it. Success is a journey, not a destination. Focus on the process. Some people dream about success... while others wake up and work hard at it. Success is achieved and maintained by those who try-and keep trying. Everyday is a good day to SUCCEED! If at first you don't succeed-try, try again

Ditto to the above 2 replies...you should try contribute / offer with some of the grocery shopping, that way, you at least have a clue about what is going on and into the food you are putting into your body - I know your MIL to be would pay for the groceries but you can still follow along and have some input, after all, you are her future DIL and I am sure she would want a healthy DIL to produce healthy offspring for her in the future LOL!
Perhaps you could eat more vegetable based things like if she makes a big fattening dinner of roast meats etc well you could opt for some baked veg and if theres a salad about, a serve of that..water etc..
But I do agree with you, it is very hard when you are living under someones elses roof and rules....I could never live with my Mother or MIL EVER..
Good luck with it all!!

I am almost in the exact same situation... worst of all they are big time Italians who can cook extremely extremely good. I just offered to help shop or go along with them and instead of regular noodles I get wheat noodles and instead of white bread I get wheat. I eat more salads and cut down on portions... Good thing for me though at my weight I can afford to eat a meal with them because I need the cals just to keep my bodily functions going.
Good luck... I feel your pain

I would talk to your fiance about your concerns. Maybe he can better talk with his parents about having some alternative options in the house for you. If they are letting you live there I bet they wouldn't have a problem with it. Especially if you might be willing to help with the shopping. It's worth a try at least. Good Luck!

Im with Jen ....try to help with the cooking if you can. If available at home..try to eat eggs, cereal , potatoes, and other healthy staples you can find. You could politely ask if you could come along to buy grocery. Or else, if its the money thing, you could look into buying now and paying them as soon as you get your job ( if thats not a problem).
When you order takeout, try getting a salad, soups, low fat menu items which im sure your already doing.

The only way to really know what's going into your mouth is to be in complete control, as you already know.
I'm throwing this out as an option -- make your own meals, and offer to cook for others if it would smooth things over with everyone. Don't want to step on toes if it can be avoided, especially living with future in-laws!
Speaking of, why are you waiting on a job in the summer? Why don't you try to find some temporary job now? What are you doing RIGHT NOW? If you have free time, you could use it for exercise, which can help if your meals are substandard.
