Hello everyone. New to this site and wanting to drop about 120 pounds. Currently at 320 pounds on a 6'5 frame. While doing some research it appears I need to consume roughly 4600 calories a day to maintain my current weight. (Jeeezzz how much am I eating when I gain a couple??) I am guessing I will have to stay away from those dqp w/ cheese. does anyone know if it would be detremental if I were to drop my calorie intake down to say 2500 calories a day? This would enable me to reach my weight loss goal in about 27 weeks. I know once I start to lose I will have to recalculate, but 6 months sound great to me.

Dropping your calories that much could cause your body to go into starvation mode - maybe not at first but after a couple of weeks. caloriesperhour.com recommends a calorie deficit of no more than 1000 calories but I think you could probably get away with like 1500 especially since people tend to overestimate the amount they burn and underestimate the amount they consume. Welcome to Traineo and good luck on your weight loss efforts. There are tons of really knowledgeable people on this site. I've found them to be an extremely valuable tool.

Welcome Q...I started a year ago at 6'3 317 pounds. I dropped my intake to 2,000 and survived. If you find your hungry eat all the fruits and vegtables you want. Welcome to Traineo.

Best thing would be to drop to about 3500 calories for a few weeks and note how your body responds. You didn't gain 120 pounds in 27 weeks I bet.

Just like Splint says, you're gonna want to re-evaluate your goals within a few weeks. Often times, you will see significant results while your body gets used to the significantly lower intake in calories, but once that happens, you'll want to re-evaluate.

Rome wasn't built in a day, likewise, losing 120 pounds in 6 months is not impossible to do, but very difficult. I don't mean to discourage you, but you'll understand once you're a few weeks into your new regimen.

I dont kno much about dropping your calorie count, but dropping 120 pounds in six to seven months would not be healthy, and would proabaly be very unhealthy for your body. I have heard over and over that losing more than a couple pounds a week is not healthy, and that it is easier to gain back quickly if you lose quickly. anyhow...good luck with your weight loss goals and welcome to traineo!
