Hi, my name is Victor and I found out that the community at this site is really, really nice! I'm so exited to form part of it and to start some cardio (starting tomorrow if everything goes fine).
So, my goal is to at least reduce 8 to 10 lbs of fat, maybe 10 is too much for a month, since its the first time; I will put all of my willpower to finish my new exercise routine, wish me luck!

Thanks for your support guys! you are a great motivation for me.
Well Cardio King, I'm kinda embarrassed that I don't have a formal routine, but I have made some research and found out that some exercise with an elliptical would be great since I have one at home and I don't have too much free time to go to the gym or to walk everyday.
I am already avoiding all kinds of unhealthy food but at the same time keeping a good quantity of proteins and "healthy" carbohydrates (surviving school), I hope my new eating habits with an exact hour of exercise on the elliptical will do the trick, what do you think?

i wouldnt be embarrassed-everyone has to start somewhere. you have an elliptical at home and you are avoiding unhealthy foods. your new eating habits and an hour of elliptical are a great plan! if you want to build muscles you will need to do weight training. you could add that on to your routine-get some dumbells for your place at home. also, a good rate of weight loss is 1-2 pounds per week.

I wish I had an elliptical at home...I don't think I'd ever get off it! LOL. No need to feel embarrassed at all...I was once where you are, it gets easier with time. As far as the foods, it's a constant struggle! I had pizza today, lol. BUT, it's not the end of the world and I keep going, which is exactly what you need to do. Give yourself credit for making the commitment, that's a huge step too!

thanks Jennifer g. and Cardio King, I think that an hour with the elliptical everything would work really fine! I started today and with good music and willpower everything is possible!
I think that I will just do the cardio, I know that with some weight training it would be better, right now the #1 thing on my list is to lose fat, building muscles can come later, do you guys think is ok to just work with the elliptical?

Sticking to cardio will make you lose fat AND muscle. Incorporating weight training will help you to burn fat while retaining and building muscle.
Plus, the more lean muscle mass you gain, the more efficient at burning fat your body becomes, so weight training is GOOD (and it impresses the chicks)

I love to eat. Carbs is my weakness link that I always lose control in front of it.
I started running for fitness in 2007. Ever since I finished the 1st marathon (San Diego RnR 2007), I am addicted to running.
I started traineoing in Nov 2007. I have reached my goal weight in Jun 08 already. But, now, I don't care much about my weight. I care about it only if it affects my running performance.

Victor, you came to the right place. Traineo has a lot of supportive folks, like Jennifer, Cardio King,...They are great motivators.
Elliptical at home, no junk good. Those are already good start. No need to feel embarrassed at all. You should feel proud of your plan and commitment to yourself.

Victor,
Elle is right. You still need to do some weight training in order to maintain lean muscle mass. If you don't want to bulk up, use light weights or do resistance exercises using your body weight (a free and easy way to strengthen those muscles). Trust me, doing both weight training and cardio makes the fat come off faster, I know from experience.
Again good luck and let us know how things progress for you.

I'm basically trying to get in shape and be healthy...
diaryofthefatman.blogspot.com
I like participating in sports but I want to be more competitive. Also I'm with Kevin Spacey from American Beauty - good reason :)
I'm looking to lose about a hundred lbs in the course of a year, and basically to just consistently get better. And I love comments and messages, so keep 'em coming!
I talk about goal setting a lot, how about I actually set some?
Well it's time to revisit goals... I didn't do too well with my end of year plans, but learned some things and changed my plans up a bit as I went along. During the 5-7 weeks of the year, I was able to put on about 8-10lbs of muscle, and stay at the same actual weight. The plan is to start the Strong Lifts 5X5 program to supplement the Couch to 5K program, and that should last the next 8-12 weeks.
I'm updating goals as well. Lowering cholesterol remains a goal, and I'll find out about that at the end of August.
Been bouncing around a bit, but getting a little stricter again and will monitor that over the next 3-4 weeks. I feel poised to really lose some weight again, so I'm looking forward to the healthy eating and additional exercise.

Welcome, Vic! What Elle said is right on - if you want to lose fat you should definitely be doing resistance training 2-3X per week. It's easy to do without weights or the gym as well, as Cardio King pointed out
Good luck!

Many people have this pre-conceived notion that cardio is only running or biking (or elliptical) when some of the best cardio comes from old-school calisthenics that will also build muscle. Elliptical machines are great and all and I use them occasionally on "active rest" days but I'd rather see how many burpees I can do in 20 minutes for a really good cardio workout that will also build functional muscle power. Or do 20 minutes of bear crawls. As long as your heart rate is in the 150 range (and it will be), you're doing a cardio routine.
I'm not trying to say that this is the only way just getting the idea out there that you don't have to be stuck on an elliptical machine or treadmill for an hour to get a good cardio workout. If you enjoy that, than by all means, good on ya, but I find them boring in large doses.

good job victor!! hmm-not sure of a specific routine but maybe others could help out. some ideas- bicep curls, tricep extensions (overhead), lateral raises(to the side), squats and lunges holding the weights.
keep us posted!
