Hey there. My name is David and I'm hoping to get back in shape. Most of my life I've been skinny, and I really liked it, but about a year and a half ago I let myself go. In about 6 months I went from around 150 lbs to over 200! Unfortunately, that's where I'm at now. Several times I've tried to lose weight and get back down. I tried when I hit 170...then when I hit 180...then 190...and each time I worked out for a week or two, lost a few pounds, then gave in and gained it back. I ran across this website while randomly searching the internet and I'm hoping that it can finally be the motivation I need. Before I would just work out by myself, run around the neighborhood a few times and not tell anybody what I'm doing, and give up. Hopefully this website can get me to stick to working out! If anybody would let me add them as a motivator I would greatly appreciate it.
Beyond that, I'm glad to meet you all.

Hi, David,
Like quitting smoking, I have found that letting the folks around you know that you're on a trim-down-mission only helps the situation.
'Course there's always the odd saboteur, but in the big piccie, it's a nice way to find out who's actually on your side.
Good for you taking the bull by the horns--this site can be a powerful tool coupled with the right mindset.
Use the forrrrrrrrrce 'cause with patience, focus and fortitude, the world of svelte is your oyster.

Hi! I'm a 44 year-old slightly overweight male looking to loose 30lbs by the end of year. For me, weight loss is just one part of an overall plan for living a healthier lifestyle (as healthy a lifestyle as possible!) In addition to diet and exercise, other elements of my healthy way of life include good sleep, proper hydration, kicking the (smoking) habit, meditation, and disease management (I have rheumatoid arthritis).
I signed up at Traineo because maintaining routines has always been difficult for me. 3 years ago however, after many tries, I was finally able to maintain an exercise routine for a period of 6 months with outstanding results. I then stopped working out so I'd have more time for other things and 3 months later the RA got worse. Since then I've been unable to motivate myself back into the gym.
Well, my motivation is back, due in part to Traineo. I think having a few motivators will be a great help. Also, posting my efforts on the Internet, for the whole world to see, may help to keep me on my toes. I'm not entirely sure about that yet so I may change my profile so only Traineo members can see it.
I'm strong willed, but most of all I crave the results I achieved 3 years ago. So I'm determined, and thus far my spirits remain high. I sure am glad you stopped to read about me and great luck with your own efforts! Cheers!

Here I am playing some Journey on my air guitar.
I'm a 22 year old with lots of determination and discipline 6 months out of the year. Needless to say, I've fallen off the wagon again and it's about time to get back on.

And, if I may add, David, changing your mindset will be key to your success.
Subbing statements like, "I'm hoping I can do it", for, "I am doing it." is crucial.
Everyone can hope, but not everyone does what needs to be done.

I want to wear a bathing suit next summer!! I got up to 182 and decided to do something. My new man is a runner, and has me hooked on it with the Nike . I started walking/running intervals recently, and set a goal for myself of 80 miles in the next 12 weeks. Together with a healthier diet, I'm hoping to watch the weight melt off like it already has begun to!

I agree with Minu, if you believe in yourself first and foremost, you can do it. Just don't set yourself up for disappointment. Losing weight takes TIME. I learned that the hard way. Jump in with both feet and don't look back! Think of some other goal in your life that was hard for you to accomplish. If you can do that, you can certainly do this! Ohh and diet is a big deal. I started Weight Watchers a couple weeks ago, and it actually makes losing weight fun. If you're looking for something different and fairly straight forward in that department, I would try it. It becomes like a game, not going over the "point" limit for the day. It also encourages me to work out, because you earn more points to be used towards your daily food intake when you exercise. Ok now that I sound like a commercial..

Heheh, if it works, Sarah, then that's the bottom line.
While I've heard of some folks having success with WW, I think that their system of "points", is not the best way to teach a person about nutrition--a necessary skill for life-long health.
Getting to know the correct terminologies, like what the word "calories" actually means for instance, as well as understanding and appreciating the contents and true value of natural foods is a HUGE part of body science.
Simply staying within the daily points is not of much use if a lot of those amounts are composed of empty calories, like WW products, like low fat, pre-fab desserts for example.
I'm not saying that this is how your handling your WW program, Sarah, please don't get me wrong, it's just that over the years, I've seen many people in WW filling their daily, "extra points" up with said treats and desserts and such, when really, a treat is only a treat if it's a once-in-a-while thing.
Keep a car topped up with quality fluids and fuel and the performance can only increase.

I am 29 years old and have grown passionate about fitness and health! Overall, I have lost and kept off a little over 40 pounds, and I have about 20 or so more that I would like to take off. This last year has been tough and distracting in many ways, and I am back to work now! I am revisiting Traineo, because this site and the people here were instrumental in helping me lose my original 40 pounds so I am back! I regret that because of time constraints I won't be able to be AS active in the forums as I used to, but I will certainly try to stay in there and reconnect with old friend as well as make new ones.
My fitness goals remain the same as before as I haven't achieved them yet: *GOAL 1 = 140 lbs Target Date = 7/31/08 Date Met = TBD CURRENT FITNESS GOALS: Run a 5K, improve flexibility enough to do the splits, be able to do 50 pushups in a row, be able to do a pull-up, learn to do a hand stand and then hand stand pushups. :)

Hi David - welcome! The first thing I would recommend is that if Traineo lets you...that you change the name of this thread to: I KNOW I can do it! It is all mindset and motivation. You will find plenty of support and encouragement here because we all want to see you succeed. So, don't be afraid to learn and ask questions as well as share your journey with us. Good luck, and let us know how we can help!
