Here I am playing some Journey on my air guitar.
I'm a 22 year old with lots of determination and discipline 6 months out of the year. Needless to say, I've fallen off the wagon again and it's about time to get back on.

I started a gym membership about 18 months ago with high hopes. It started out great, dropped some fat, gained some muscle. Then I began working out out with a guy who only wanted to weight train, so I basically stopped doing cardio. That workout partner has since moved on and my workouts have been laxidasical and infrequent. Over the past 8 months I gained about 30 pounds and now I'm looking to get fit again.
Over the past few weeks I've been at the gym 5 times a week and have regulated my diet, so hopefully I'll start forming some good habits.
My biggest problem was/is my diet: I love to eat at night, i love to eat when i'm bored, i love to over-eat, etc. If you have these same problems, or have any insights I'd love to get some motivators, and I'd be happy to do the same for anyone else that needs motivation.

I love, love, love food.
I used to lock my cabinet after 7 pm. I don't now, and I usually don't snack. Usually.
For the eating when you're bored-drink seltzer. It makes me not want food too much (though if I'm truly hungry it doesn't trick me). I'm sure water works, too.

About me: --------------------------- I'm an architecture student at a great school.
After trial and error, managed to shed the pounds for real.
What I'm doing: --------------------------- Portion control still a problem. HIIT 2x/week Starting weights 1x/week
I take stairs over escalator and elevator ALL THE TIME (I climb 6 sets of stairs minimum for the day at the metro 2-3floors?).
Extra note: --------------------------- I finally understand what being fit means! And I actually love running now thanks to HIIT.
Goal: lose the belly fat! My problem area. First goal: 120lbs - MET 2nd goal: 116lbs - MET 3rd goal: 112lbs ish with more muscle definition
Realizing I can't change the way my body stores fat and have a noticeable belly during the day (pic was morning with light breakfast after workout) I will work on making a stronger core to counter the pooch a bit
Dropped 1 pant size since last year (stable weight) Dropped 2 pant sizes since mid-Summer after Greece (pastries=weight gain)

I have the same problem. I'm fine and up until supper time, I'm at about 1000 calories or a bit lower. I would still be fine with dinner and snack if my dinner is 400-500 calories, but I usually end up eating a lot and my total at the end of the day ends up being about 1700 calories.
if you cook for yourself, it's easier to control your calories, I know I would make myself 300 calorie sandwiches if I lived on my own and would be very satisfied with that.
As for snacks, I almost always eat popcorn at night. It takes a while to eat, it fills you up, and if you air pop it, it's uber healthy!

can you try to eat 5-6 small meals throughout the day? you can eat every 3 or so hours so you know that your next meal/snack is coming pretty soon. that has helped me alot. also, if you combine carbs, proteins, fats with your meals/ snack you will be more likely to be satisfied. also, water fills you up too as mentioned. it really does help. brushing your teeth after you eat sometimes helps too bc then food tastes gross.

about the popcorn, never mind if you saw my new post, man it sucks. Unless you make yourself 1 cup of popped popcorn, which really is nothing. You can have a small bowl of cereal or some yogourt or fruits.
I find apples very satisfying, they're huge FUJI apples so I consider each to be 100 cal.

Jennifer - I have switched to 5-6 smaller meals throughout the day and that is working out great for me. I drink a good 60-80 ounces of water from about 7:00 -12:00 pm, so that usually gets me to not eat anything late. Brushing your teeth is a really good idea too.
Jess-yeah, apples are satisfying as hell although i've read that they take up to 3 hours to digest, so I try not to eat them right before bed. Celery is also a favorite nighttime snack; next to no calories and I think all the chewing it takes to get a stalk of celery down is fooling my brain into thinking it's full.
Thanks for the advice!
