Hi! A few years ago, my biggest jeans no longer fit. I always said that I wasn't going to buy new jeans, I would just lose weight so that I could fit into them again.

That never happened- I have been wearing dresses, elastic-waist shorts and sweatpants ever since.

I think that the medication I am on contributes to the weight gain and general tiredness I have been experiencing over the past ten years, but I'm hoping that if I get moving and improve my eating habits I can make a dent.

At the present time, I eat too many sweets and just like to sleep a lot.

My favorite things to do are all sedentary in nature- reading, computer, crossword puzzles.

I don't exercise at all! Even walking will be an improvement over lying on the couch.

I am divorced and have three kids between the ages of 11-16.

When I have started things like this before, I am always very good for a few days (less than a week!) and then I just lose my motivation : (
I don't know why!

So I'm hoping that I can maintain my motivation this time.

Hi Jen, I think you need to find a way to get excited(motivated) about feeling healthy and energetic, and then form a specific plan to reach your goals. Do some research, ask questions. I would suggest setting some minigoals, just "losing weight" is too general. Set yourself up for success...get those problem foods out of the house and bring in some new foods, plenty of good healthy suggestions here. Is there a YMCA or friendly gym in your area where you might find some beginning exercise classes and meet some like-minded friends? How about working up to walking a mile in a certain amount of time? Whatever you decide, stick with it, if you mess up one day, get right back at it the next. Keep us posted, best wishes to you.

One of the things that keeps me going is so simple, but it works for me. I printed out a calendar for the year with just the months and days on one sheet of paper. Every day I work out (my rule is >30 min.), I put an X through that day. I shoot for a minimum of 5x/wk. You wouldn't think a bunch of red Xs on a sheet of paper would make a person want to do something, but it really gets me going. I hate looking at that calendar and seeing blank spots. This might not be enough for some people, but it works for me.

One, (obvious to many here, but only to me recently ; ), thing you might want to consider using are the graphs here at traineo. You can enter your daily workouts, track your weight and keep record of the calories in your life too on your profile here.

(I just started using the work out tracker today.)

If you have a dog, they can really makes walks 'n jogs all the more enjoyable.

I think that perhaps joining a gym might really help. It'll get yourself surrounded by fit-minded folks where there's tons of classes that you can sign up for and plenty of choices activity-wise to keep things interesting. You'll likely meet a pal there who's in the same boat as yourself and trying to improve quality of life.

All the BEST on your journey, Jen, and welcome to the site.

You've come to the right place, i think. There's a lot of folk here making it part of their lifestyle, and together it's more fun -- even over the Web -- than going it alone, it seems.

I really learned a lot from people here, and pretty soon you'll find your way of watching what goes in, and enjoying the progress you make in exercise.

Start out nice and easy-does-it, and most important to stay with it. Keep checking in ...

I took me a while before a saw results, a few months, then all of a sudden, the lbs started flying off. I think my body took a while to get used to calorie control and exercise, and then eventually decided it was ok to let the fat go...

Right right right... the whole point is that a healthy lifestyle is not something that you can do to get into shape... it has to become a habit. Then not only will you get in shape, but you'll stay there.
