Hi guys, My name is Sam I am from London, England. I have always been overweight to some degree, 1 year ago I weighed in at 280lbs! I felt awfull, but was to lazy to do anything about it, untill I went swimming with my fiancee. I couldn't get out of the pool, there were children laughing and staring and adults looking at me like I was an alien! It was then that I decided to do something about it, I joined a gym, went on a diet and gave up smoking! The diabetes I was told I had the year before which I was taking medication for was all but gone and now just diet controlled! All was going well.....Now the wheels have fallen off and I need help to get going again, I got down to 13.5 stone - 189lbs I am now up too 15.5 stone - 217lbs, I want to get down too 182lbs - 13 stone, by the new year!
Its going to be hard but I am going to do it!!!

I am 29 years old and have grown passionate about fitness and health! Overall, I have lost and kept off a little over 40 pounds, and I have about 20 or so more that I would like to take off. This last year has been tough and distracting in many ways, and I am back to work now! I am revisiting Traineo, because this site and the people here were instrumental in helping me lose my original 40 pounds so I am back! I regret that because of time constraints I won't be able to be AS active in the forums as I used to, but I will certainly try to stay in there and reconnect with old friend as well as make new ones.
My fitness goals remain the same as before as I haven't achieved them yet: *GOAL 1 = 140 lbs Target Date = 7/31/08 Date Met = TBD CURRENT FITNESS GOALS: Run a 5K, improve flexibility enough to do the splits, be able to do 50 pushups in a row, be able to do a pull-up, learn to do a hand stand and then hand stand pushups. :)

I have started two new blogs, one to follow my running and a Quest to a Marathon at blog.262quest.com and one to follow my weight loss at blog.2big.org, please check them out.
I am an IT professional / Developer which means I sit in front of a computer most of the day. This means very little exercise and plenty of time to eat.
I decided at the first of the year that I was going to lose weight. I started by changing my eating habits and started walking.
I did so for about a month and then added some weight lifting and started to run a little bit.
I have so far lost 29 lbs in just over 3 months and would like to lose just over another 50 lbs by the end of the year.
I have started running quite a bit more and am training to run the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta on July 4th (10k)
I need all the encouragement I can get because to do this I am getting up every morning during the week at 4:30 to go running. With a wife and kids this is really the only time that I can consistently do what I need to do.
I am driven, but at times get a bit discouraged because I don't have anybody to work out with or run with.
All in All, I know I can do it, I just have to remember that when I don't do so well, it is in the past and what matters is going forward.

Welcome Sam!
It is good to see you here. Get going right away while you have the motivation. I am sure you will do it, you have done it before. Just this time take it to the next level and make it one of your main goals to change your life and not just go on a diet and work out. That way you will do much better at keeping it off.
You sound like you are on the right track.... you are looking for motivation and you have come to the right place. Take part in the forums and it will help you - I guarantee it!

Hey Sam
I just finished my first Triathlon. It was a Sprint distance (400 meter swim, 12.5 mile bike ride and a 5k run. My time was 1 hour and 45 min. that's really slow but it was my first one and I finished. I am excited about doing another. For me signing up for the event and learning about training and the training itself were great motivators. I started training about the beginning of March and I weighed 215 lbs.
I now weigh about 195 lbs. I like the JUDD diet and I want to lose about 10 or 15 more pounds. My next Tri is Sept. 15
Try a Tri it's not really all that hard and when you tell people you have done a Triathlon they will think you are some sort of super athlete
try

Hey Guy's thanks for your comments.
I have the want to do it just lack the motivation, but thats all changing as of now, I am ready to give it my all.
Tim, thanks for the comments, Yes I have lost the wait before, why did it go back on? Because I was dieting, not changing my life-style, I want it to be so that all the good things I did before will be second nature to me!
I am really hungry (excuse the pun) to lose my weight but also to do it safely and in a way that will be a life-style change.
Lastly thanks to Joe too, When I was at my fittest I did complete a 10k run in 52 mins for cancer research, that was one of the best moments of my life, felt like I achieved the world that day! I will look into doing some begginers triathlons.
Once again, thankyou to all you guys, you are the reason I joined this site because there are 2 types of motivation. 1:your own, looking in the mirror seeing pic etc. 2:support from those around you. Thats why I am here and you guys are helping already. (this may sound odd, but I am sure some of you will no what I mean) I have the first feelings of that fire in my belly to get back into it and stick with it...Thanks again.
p.s I have some before and after pictures from before, I want to post them whats the best way to do it?

As for the pictures, I have some hosting I use for other reasons so I just use that. But what you can do is use a picture hosting site that will let you do hotlinking. I have this one I use for my kids.
www.filenanny.com/unregupload.php
That link should take you directly to the place where you can upload without registering. Once you do that you will be given a URL. Copy that and then when you are posting in the forums you can click the picture button and use the URL that you were given in the previous step.

I'm 26 years old, I have a wonderful wife and a beautiful daughter.
I graduated from US Air Force basic training and am now at tech school. I will be doing PT 3 times a week and working out in the gym 3 days as well.
My goal is to maintain my weight while burning more fat and gaining strength.

looks like you've lost a good amount of weight before, i'm sure you can do it again! keep it up!
as far as exercises while your knee heals, crunches and pullups don't use your legs. i know that you have to keep your body straight, but pushups might be ok too.

I am going to start doing some basic distance walking aswell as I miss running! Still doing some upper body weights though, every bit helps!

I fractured my ankle July 1st and have been sidelined from running for a while. I was skeptical about walking as exercise, but it's actually been quite a challenge. I added some serious hills (not hard to do in my area) to keep the intensity up. I'm not sure how much you're able to do with the knee, but I just wanted to let you know you can keep going, even if you're not running!

Thanks for the comments Cindy, I am going to start walking tonight and see how I get on with the knee, just going to take it one step at a time (sorry, didn't mean the pun!).
The way I see it is, everything you do, be it a 10k run or a 2k walk all help, something is better than nothing!
Thanks again guy's you are all a massive help.

Good luck with the walk. The thing is you just gotta try and see what you can do.
About 6 weeks ago I pulled a muscle in my leg. I will spare you the details, but will say that walking hurt me more than running. I have been told to not do either for at least 2 more weeks by the Orthopedic. Added to the past 6 weeks that I have not been able to do much of either.
I found that I can ride the bike without pain and do almost any kind of weight lifting, so that is what I do now for my workout. That plus the lots and lots of stretching the Physical Therapist has me doing.
Just keep doing something!
Good luck and I hope the knee gets better soon!

Sam, sorry to hear about the knee! But, like Tim says perhaps the bike riding could be an alternative to running in the interim? Walking is good as well, and stick with your good eating habits and weight lifting and you will still see progress. Good luck!

I am going to get the bike out this weekend and I am now hitting the bike and the weights at they gym more.
Its tough as sometimes you feel sorry for yourself, but thats natural, we have to ride the good and the bad.

I tried jogging for one measly minute last night during my walk. I couldn't help myself. I've been feeling so good that I had to try. I've been a gimp all day today because of it. Ugh! Shall we start a pity party thread?

Thanks Tim, it's this kind of support that makes this community the best!
Going to go for a 4 mile walk saturday morning, nothing to intense but just a quicker walk. I will let you know how it goes.....
Leg injury are the worst, especially when all you want to do is burn the fat and start jogging again, but if you think about it, whats 6 weeks out of your lifetime of being healthy????
Pity Party Thread?I will be on it all day long moaning!

Pity party? Just tell me where.....
Sam, don't talk yourself out of your walk tomorrow. You will feel great once you get out there.
I know it is only a short time, just am chomping at the bit. The Physical Therapist told me yesterday that he didn't see any reason why the Dr wouldn't let me start running again next week. WHOOOOO HOOOOO!

Hello! My name is Iris. I'm a 28-yr-old mother to 2 beautiful little girls. I started my weight loss journey August 2006 at 200 lbs. And this September (2007), I am now down to 127 lbs. I am very proud of myself.
I haven't been on Traineo in months. I was only on for a short period of time, and then lost internet connection for a little while, and then couldn't remember my username and password LOL. But now I'm back. I'd like to work on becoming a little more lean, maybe getting down to 120 lbs. Most of all I want to work on my stomache. So, starting tomorrow, Monday, Aug. 20, I'm going back to keeping a written food/exercise/feelings journal.
Things I've done to get where I am today....I quit drinking sodas cold turkey, I cut way back on junk food, and I read the nutrition labels. I only eat the serving size. I only drink water and lots of it. I keep count of the calories going in and the calories I'm burning. I workout at the gym 4-6 days a week. And actually....I now work at a ladies fitness gym (since March 2007) and I'm working on getting cetified as a personal trainer. I love to tell my story and motivate others. It feels great and I just LOVE my job. I've taught one aerobic class on a whim to feel in for someone and may be teaching my own class by the end of 2007 or beginning of 2008.
I find ways to motivate myself daily. I can never have enough! So I'm here, LOL But really and truly, I'd love to support and motivate anyone who needs it.

Welcome Sam!! You can do this! I'm sure you'll find a way to work through the injury. Just don't give up....where there is a will, there is a way!
