Hey everyone, I need some advice. I have been working out and eating really well, but haven't lost nearly the weight I had hoped I would by now. I'm 5'11" and currently at 239lbs. I've only lost 15 lbs since the beginning of the year.

I've been working out regularly 3-4 days a week at the local gym since December. A typical workout for me is 15-30 minutes of cardio, 30-45 minutes of weight training, then another 15-30 minutes of cardio. I mix up the cardio between the treadmill, elliptical, stairclimber and bike. For weight training I've mainly been using the smart muscle machines at the gym. (These machines simulate free-weight exercises but have a clutch system to change the bulk of the weight to either the beginning/middle/end of the action) I also play hockey 1-3 days a week.

As for my diet, I've been using Fitday to keep track of what I eat and I stay right around 2000 calories, and a pretty close to 33/33/33 split of protein/carbs/fat.

I'm not hoping to get super buff any time soon, I just want to lose my boiler and look like I'm in as good as shape as I feel I am (which is pretty good actually). Thanks for whoever read all this, and for any advice you may have.

Welcome

Good to see another Hockey player on the site.

Seems like you have a good routine set. Make sure to keep your workouts intense.

If you're doing weight training 3-4 times a week now and didn't used to do it at all before, you may have nothing to worry about even though you're not losing as much weight as you'd expected. How do your clothes fit? Have you had to go down a couple sizes? Can you give us some more info on what you used to do before the beginning of this year in terms of exercise and eating habits?

The fact that you're feeling really good is a very good sign.

i do have a suggestion on your diet:

1. 1/3 of your diet should not be fat. at max, .5g/lb of bodyweight should be consumed daily. take in lots of carbs (1.5g/lb), and lots of protein (1g/lb). I also calculated your bmr as 2286.67 (basal metabolic rate), so i would cut down your caloric intake a bit, but not too much. maybe only 1800 a day? if your eat 1800 a day, you're still losing around almost a pound a week on diet alone. remember, however, to re-evaluate your bmr after substantial weight loss. i've been losing weight for a fair bit now, so if u or anyone else has any questions, pm me

I've been keeping the workouts up to the point that when I get to the end of an exercise there is no way I could do another one. I'm usually sore the next day from them. I assume this a pretty good thing.

My belt did go down a notch, but again I had hoped for a little more then one notch, maybe I was expecting too much. Before this I did no weight-training and only had hockey and the occasional basketball game or something like that to stay in shape, so this is all pretty new to me. My eating habits fluctuated all over the place. I tried to eat what I thought was pretty good, but since I didn't keep real good count of it, or do any real research into what that meant my diet was OK, probably a little better then average as far as nutrition and calories. Around October or so of last year I really hunkered down and started making the effort to eat better.

Camron - Thanks for the suggestion, I have trouble getting enough protein in my diet, but I'll definitely cut back on the fat. I've shot for 1800/day, but it tends to come out closer to 2000. I'm going to start the whole cook for a week on Sundays and hopefully that will let me better plan out my meals.

Thanks guys! Any other help/tips/encouragement is very appreciated.
