Three years ago I weighed 350 lbs. I got off my but and ate around 1600 calories a day for 8 months and got my weight down to 260. This was all part of a goal to get my weight down to 200 lbs. Things were going well and then I went to finish college a little more than two years ago. Since then I have been steadily gaining back weight and am presently at 306 lbs. To be very frank, I am ashamed of the weight that I have gained back. So much so that there are people that I avoid so that I do not need to confront the weight gain.

I need to get back on track. I've seen my struggle with food be overtly injurious to my personal life. The most major consequence being that when I asked permission from my girlfriend's parents to marry their daughter, I was told (in not so few words) that I was too fat to marry their daughter.

That was a year ago and I'm not sure why that wasn't impetus enough for me to change. In the last week or so, I've returned to the realization that the damage to my personal life in conjunction with a family history of diabetes and high blood pressure puts me in a position where I need to be at a healthy weight.

Anybody that would be willing to lend me some support in this would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Adam, first thing's first. Clean up your diet. You saw what happened the first time you did, and you know you're capable of doing it. I would recommend taking in about 2000-2200 a day. Possibly a little more if you're going to be doing any kind of exercise, calories are fuel, you just have to use them. Now, take a walk or a bike ride. I don't know where you're from but it's perfect weather to be outside almost anywhere in the US this time of year. Do you have access to a gym? Get on an elliptical or a bike or a treadmill. I know most people don't like treadmills, but come on, who really does? I sell them for a living and I hate those things. Let me get back to the diet part. Get yourself some good meal replacements or RTD (Ready To Drink). Use one of these between meals, most of them actually taste good now. You could save some money by buying a protein powder, if you go this route get Muscle Milk. You'll hear people say there's too much fat in it. They're right, but it's a good fat. You're body doesn't absorb it. And 2 scoops in 12oz. of water or skim milk and you have a decent meal replacement. Look, I work for a fitness supplier in cental Pa, if you have any questions send me an e-mail at Fightingsqirrl13@aol.com . Yeah, it's time to change the email address. Anyway, if you have any questions, let me know.

Think thin, and you will become thinner.

Nothing like a little cognitive behavior theory therapy....

THERAPISTS UNITE!!!

Write to me anytime, when you're in a bind, and you feel like you need to eat something, write to me and tell me what is going on around you. If you still feel hungry after you vent to your heart's content, yep, you're hungry.

But seriously, I'm here if you want to vent. I'm sorry about your fiancee's parents. Luckily, you won't have to live with her parents.

Blessings,
Tricia
