I'm new here. My name is Adam, and I'm 14 years old.

I'm verging on overweight, (my BMI is 24.5) and I want to lost a lot of weight, because I get picked on for being fat...

Before I do anything, I was wondering if 2 stone in 6 months is realistic. Once I set my mind to something I'm determined to do it, and I would do all I could do achieve this.

Anyway, Hello to you all.

Welcome to Traineo!

2 stone is 28 pounds or almost 13 kg.

A healthy rate of weight loss is 1 or 2 lbs per week, or 1.14 stone in two months -- about half of your target.

That healthy weight loss also implies that you're eating a nutrient rich, healthy, high fiber diet.

At this point, it may help for you to write up a list of mini-goals for yourself that focus on making permanent changes to your lifestyle. A one or two month deadline to re-evaluate your goals is a good idea.

For example, I set goals in Jan 2007 to cut out coffee entirely and eat breakfast every day without skipping. I was able to keep the breakfast goal, which helped me spread out calories over the day and keep my metabolism more stable. However, I had to concede that I'd still take a cup of coffee or so a day, which was still drastically lower than the 60+ ounces I normally drank (and which impedes nutrient absorption and may contribute to greater calcium loss).

Writing down mini goals was something I learned from others on Traineo. It really helps! Especially if you post them here for your motivators to see.

I'll probably try and eat breakfast every day. It's something that I've not really got used to doing. I probably need more sleep too.

Other than that, I just need to eat less and move more, which is what I'm aiming to do anyway.

Hi Adam! welcome to Traineo

It's very, very important, especially at your age, to be sure to be getting all the nutrition that you need. You might feel that you should be eating less, but you are very likely just eating the wrong types of things, and not enough of the right!

I've got my "mom" hat on, ("mum" if you are british), and let me give you some friendly pointers

No soda pop (lemonade)
No candy/sweets/biscuits
Cut back on the butter and cream
Use a little bit of sauces, just a taste. Food doesn't need to be drowned!

Eat lots of fresh, raw veggies. The more colorful, the better.
Eat fruit every day, but only 2 or 3 pieces (whole fruits, not juices)
Choose whole grain breads and cereals, like porridge, whenever possible.
A serving of meat (if you eat meat) should be the size of the palm of your hand... no more. It's about the size of a deck of regular playing cards.

Drink lots of water. Don't wait until you are thirsty! When you get up in the morning, have a glass, and have a glass before each meal.

Have fun! this is a lifetime adventure.

Hi there!!

Hmm... when I was fourteen, I kept to myself much, but I was active. I'm very melancholic in temperment, but sports kept me busy after school when my strict asian parents watched over me like a hawk.

Do you like sports? How about athletic training? You can be "medical" support to all who need it on the field/mat/floor. Anything that keeps you moving, or at least on your feet, is awesome!

Keep posting! We can always help you make healthy decisions, but the real answer lies within YOU!

WELCOME TO TRAINEO!!

Tricia

Hi Adam!

I just wanted to give you a big, huge, giant cyber-hug!!

I don't have any good advice, with regards to your weight loss, but please do not do anything to extreme. Slow-n-steady. Also, you will probably get a break from school soon...I'll bet anything you'll go back looking incredible!

Cheers,

Sonja
