Hi friends,
I stumbled across this page while surfing through some web design galleries - glad to have found it.
I've always been "big." Being 6'4" with a hulking frame, my friends have always helped me justify it. After all, I have my role to play as the token jolly fat man in my groups of friends (thanks, Chris Farley).
Life has been pretty sedentary for me over the past couple of years, and things have recently come to a head in two particular ways: 1. I purchased a XXXXLT (yep, four X's right there) shirt, and 2. I was diagnosed with Acanthosis Nigricans, a skin condition that is a precursor to Type 2 Diabetes.
It's time to make a change.
I haven't done any form of resistance workout since high school football. The same is almost as true for cardio, with a few month exception my sophomore year of college. Still, it's time to make a change. To that end, I recently took out a membership at the local 24 Hour Fitness along with some personal training sessions.
And, for the first time, I can imagine myself as a thin, in-shape man.
But first, I just need to get back down to XXLT shirts. ;)

i Slappy
I'm a slappy geek (IT Systems Analyst at work, Gadget lover at play) and ready to do something to change my state of slappiness...time to de-slappify myself.
Unfortunately, my love for all things tech is, by it's nature, a very sedentary lifestyle which has lead me down the path of being slappy (overweight/obese, in case you were curious). After having three different doctors strongly urge me to lose weight and a blood pressure reading of 190/110...this new path became an absolute must.
I've joined the Weight Watcher ranks and found it to be a great gateway to my 'lifestyle change'. It has been a tremendous help to reducing my calories, while helping get in my daily intake of fruits, vegetables, calcium, water, omega-3's, etc...
As for fitness, I have been using my eliptical trainer at home because running outdoors was a little harsh on my knees. This has helped to ease my hand off the TiVo remote and onto the home exercise equipment. I now watch digitally recorded shows while huffing and puffing. =P
I look forward to meeting new and interesting people on here and finding new 'thinspirations' and motivators.

Welcome aboard, Will! Good luck in your journey!
I too was pushing the 4X territory and was swayed by news from a physician to go the other way...here I am 40 'el-bees' lighter and looking to lose more. I look forward to seeing your progress.

COAT!!!
I'm going to Disneyland!!!!!
On a more serious note, I used to be a fitness counselor for 24 Hour Fitness... be leery if they push too many supplements on you too quickly. If anything, a multi-vitain for certain, but all the other supps they get points for sales. Trust your judgement!! Are you on the 24/5 plan?
Welcome to Traineo!! Message me anytime,
Tricia

Okay, on to diet number 5! This month: Neanderthin.
Previous loses are as follows: January, G I Lean ( 4.3kgs ); February, The Hacker's Diet ( 4.5kgs ); March, Johnson UpDayDownDay Diet ( 2.1kgs ); April, YOU: On A Diet ( 700g).
It seems all these diet switches are working. It appeals to my desire for novelty and means I can try diets I never would consider for the long-term. That, and I get to play around collecting data in spreadsheets - always a good thing if you need some work avoidance. Honestly, this is quite fun.

Welcome, Will!
Don't overdo, but definitely DO!
Never underestimate the long-term impact of a "small" changes... walk a bit more... eat a bit less... drink more water... eat less "junk"... add veggies, subtract sugar/white flour/excessive fats.
I was acquainted with the gentleman that founded the COH (Circle of Hope) group* years ago, for those with over 100lbs to lose... he'd dropped 300lbs, at that point. He was amazing.
Slow, steady, keep the long-term view.
*Unfortunately, I think the group folded sometime in the past 8 years. I've been unable to find it again.

My fitness regimen includes stationary cycling, light weight training and lots of walking around NYC. I'm a graduate of WeightWatchers and an enthusiastic advocate of its balanced approach to weight loss. I'm sure that I drink too much coffee and get too little sleep. :)
My goals are to maintain my weight in a healthy BMI/BF % range and forestall the toll of advancing age. :)
I think Traineo's established a great community and appreciate the support and information we share.
You'll find me elsewhere on the Web at http://claimid.com/nycinephile

I am 32 years old and I have four kids...1 boy and 3 girls. I have a lot of weight to lose because I want to be a healthy role model for them. I also just want to be healthier...so I can see them grow old!

Welcome Will.
I just want to say that you remind me of a buddy of mine. He just bought a mountain bike and started riding with me a few weeks ago. We rode about 10 miles and then turned back..but his body was fighting against himself.
The best piece of advice I can give you is this. Work you way up. Dont try to climb the steps to the 50th floor. Start with just the first. You will get there...the people here are major motivators. You came to the right place!

09/02/08 - 151, ugh! Well, it's only 6 pounds, it will come back off!
07/30/08 - 145 YAHOO!!
06/26/08 - 148, ugh, up 3 pounds but I just started The 30 Day Shred with Jillian Michaels (instead of my Slim in 6). WOW, talk about an intense workout!
05/30/08 - 145! YAHOO!! Up 7 pounds from December but after the past few months I am impressed I didn't gain 40!!
12/29/07 - When I started this particular journey, I was 187 pounds and had a BMI of 31.1 and was obese. I am now 138 pounds and have a BMI of 23! I am within normal range again! Thank you everyone for your support! ______________________________ 04/19/07 The start of the journey - I am a 33 year old single mother of 5, ages 8 to 18 and I am obese.
I never had problems with my weight until about 4 years ago. It started coming on and just didn't stop! I have yo-yo'ed long enough and it is time to get moving and get losing!

Everyone on here is so fabulous, you have definitely come to the right place! I also track my food intake and calories used at www.FitDay.com , or my own personal site is http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/PublicJournals.html?O wner=UrHapiGyrl (Just started so it is kind of boring right now)
I find it easier there but there isn't any support group there. I haven't ran across a better group of people EVERYONE wants to help. It has been very encouraging to me.
I am new too and have gained about 50 pounds in the last 3 years and I am ready to get back to my profile pic tummy!
Just like everyone else says, starting small is the best way and the best way to maintain long term I think. I myself use weight watchers and even though a lot of people say that it doesn't stress a healthy lifestyle, I think that I do find healthier things to eat because I can usually eat more of them and I definitely love food.
So good luck and come back for support regularly! We will be here!!

80 POUNDS GONE!
I've gone from a size 20 to a 6 (and even sometimes a 4!) and I've never looked this good in my life! (22 years of being overweight, dontcha know)
I'm a dedicated South Beach girl with a newfound love for exercise.
I've given up white flour, white sugar, fast food, and who knows what else. But you'll never get my coffee away from me!!

Welcome Will!! So what's your plan? I heartily recommend South Beach myself (and am always up for questions about it) - but more than anything I recommend having some kind of plan.
I know what you mean about finally being able to visualize yourself as a thin person. I had that moment myself last July. Let me tell you, now that I'm almost at the end of this part of the journey, YOU CAN DO IT. It is going to take a little while, but when you get there you'll be shocked at how the time flew by!!
