I live a extremely busy life so often Excercise takes a back-seat. I am a College Student who is studying Radio Broadcasting and as such, working at the School Radio Station.
At the station I am active in the NEws Dept. and Promotions. I also am a Producer for the Steve and DC Radio Network. I work there Monday through Friday 4:30am - usually 8:15am.
I also work at a Museum where I am a reservationist sitting on my butt for about 8 hours a day.
So as you can see my busy and sometimes hectic schedule has led me to gain a considerable amount of weight in the last 5 years. I want to lose most if not all of what I have gained and then some.
So, I have simple goal lose enough to guarantee I can't be banned from any roller coasters at Cedar Point. Then from there who knows, Once the train starts going full-steam then I will hope to keep it going and shed enough weight to feel great.

I want to lose enough weight so that when I go to Cedar point Amusement Park in Mid-May. I can ride all of the roller coasters without anyone saying I am too big. I have already started to attack one challenge and that is cutting back my soda in-take. I plan (hope) to cut Soda out completely. I have switched to Water and Iced Tea (no sugar). I am going to begin taking walks with my new dog when the weather gets warmer. Soon, very soon I am going to join a gym. Anyone got suggestions as to what else I can do?

I am 34 years old, married and a father of a 2.5 year old. They are the motivators for me to reach my goal. I started the new journey on 8/21/06 @307 lbs and as of June '08, I have lost around 108 lbs. I have been able to keep 100 lb weight loss since Sept. '07. What keeps me on track is the Traineo community, vision of a healthy and fit future and the mini-goals below. *GOAL 1 = 244 lbs, Date = 2/15/07 Date Met = 2/7/07 *GOAL 2 = 229 lbs, Date = 3/22/07 Date Met = 3/30/07 ________________________ *GOAL 3 = 199 lbs, Date = 6/30/08 Date Met = 6/5/08 *GOAL 4 = 185 lbs, Date = 09/30/08 Date Met = TBD (185 is my "ultimate" goal. Then build muscle.)
Hobbies/Interests: Baseball, White Sox, bowling, WII, Xbox 360, PSP, XM, Opie and Anthony radio show, Ron and Fez radio show, variety of music, working out, running.
Personal Records: 5K - 26:18 (4/14/08-8:29/mile pace) 10K- 54:56-9/16/07-(8:43/mile pace) 10 Mile Run - CXLD due to injury Marathon - 10/12/08
Advice: - Set a Deadline: "A goal is a dream with a deadline - Napolean Hill." - Set Mini Goals - They help you accomplish small milestones on your way to the "ultimate" goal. - Track your progress. - Plan everything out. Daily workout routines, meals, etc. - Be patient. Your goals will eventually be met, if you work hard.

Welcome Benjamin! One suggestion would be to try to write down what you eat on a daily basis for at least a week. Count the calories and figure out what else, if anything, you can cut down on. Always try to eat about every 3-4 hours some type of snack or meal that consist of protein and good carbohydrates. Good luck with your goals!

I'm a 23 year old FFB (former fat boy). I'm a grad student at the Univ. of Phoenix. I was married on June 1st, 2007 by a wonderful supportive woman.
I have always been the fat kid so now I've changed that. I started at 305. I lost 80 pounds and was at 225 after I was sick. From Jan 07 to Apr 07, I put on 25 pounds. I then started to lose weight again, but started doing it the right way. I am now 235 and leaner than I was at 225. I'm going to see how close I can get to a 6 pack, but eventually I'll start trying to put on some muscle. Then lean out again.
Six-Pack would be awesome, I've never had one of those. So we'll see. (my photo is me at 305lbs. when i get a good pic of me now at my current weight, i'll post it)

Start exercising now, don't "wait until it's warmer" or join the gym later.
-Walk,
-jog,
-run, whatever you can do
-pushups,
-situps,
-pull ups,
-bodyweight squat,
-isometric curls/presses/rows,
--Start now.
It is possible to effectively train the body without ever touching a weight. Put a broomstick over your shoulders and squat (no need for weights). You want a curl, just do the curling motion with your own isometric resistance until you can't squeeze anymore.
That is my suggestion: don't wait, start now.

I lead a very busy life, so doing a diet and making time to work out is actually pretty difficult for me. I work for a school system fixing computers during the day, and work in youth ministry during the nighttime. It keeps me going. But it's harder to stay fit and healthy when you're so busy and convenience takes precedence over health. I'm working to change that. Hopefully, this will help.

I agree with Nathan.
I just did a run a few days ago, the temperature was 40 degrees outside (and this was overcast too) and in that run, I posted my best mileage ever (4.22 miles), so waiting until it's warmer isn't necessairly a necessity. You can run in cold weather.
As far as cutting out your Soda's, go for it man! I once went on a "no soda" binge (maybe a bad term for it, but oh well) and for 7 months I had nothing but water, the effect was amazing. This was before I had started an official diet, so I can't say I lost much weight...but my fluctuations in weight seemed to level off. Which is awesome in itself.
My other advice would be for you to find some people (whether they be here on Traineo or in your personal life) to help you stick to your guns. Nothing is more motivating (in my opinion) than knowing that someone is willing to support and expects you to stick to it.
Keep up the enthusiam!

Okay, so I guess I left out some minor details. when I said I wanted to wait til the weather got warmer, I really meant until the snow is gone (which could be tomorrow if the temp stays up). I just snowed 2-4 Inches here in Missouri. I have a Jack Russell and I don't think she would appreciate walking in the snow. I am not making excuses, just being resonable to my pet.
I appreciate all of your comments and keep them coming.

I am 29 years old and have grown passionate about fitness and health! Overall, I have lost and kept off a little over 40 pounds, and I have about 20 or so more that I would like to take off. This last year has been tough and distracting in many ways, and I am back to work now! I am revisiting Traineo, because this site and the people here were instrumental in helping me lose my original 40 pounds so I am back! I regret that because of time constraints I won't be able to be AS active in the forums as I used to, but I will certainly try to stay in there and reconnect with old friend as well as make new ones.
My fitness goals remain the same as before as I haven't achieved them yet: *GOAL 1 = 140 lbs Target Date = 7/31/08 Date Met = TBD CURRENT FITNESS GOALS: Run a 5K, improve flexibility enough to do the splits, be able to do 50 pushups in a row, be able to do a pull-up, learn to do a hand stand and then hand stand pushups. :)

Benjamin - I think it is great that you set a short-term, tangible, and quanitfiable goal. I mean, if you don't meet your goal, no rides right? How is that for motivation!? So great job on that.
Like Fred mentioned, definitely figure out your calorie intake. I suggest monitoring your normal intake for a week to get a good idea of what you consume. Then, you can figure out how to offset enough calories through changed diet and increased exercise in order to create enough caloric deficit to lose the weight you want to.
As far as exercise, there is really nothing I can add to Nathan's list, as his list was great. I know that personally, I have found bodyweight exercises boring...so I create "games" and "challenges" for myself. I always challenge myself to do more than the day before, even if it is just a little. Also, if you are doing it in front of the TV, I try and see how many reps of push-ups, situps, etc.. that I can do during the commercial breaks.
You just have to find whatever works for you, something that you will enjoy enough to stick with it. Like Nathan said - start now!

Hey dude, I have two dogs, one big, one small.
They wear fur coats all the time, your dog will be fine.
