I'm your average middle aged guy that like a lot of Americans is seriously overweight. I've tried every diet and while I've had some success I seem to always wind up back where I started (and more). My current goal is to reach my goal (or at least be heading towards it) before I reach the age of 45.

I just posted a new update on my page (http://mfrazzz.traineo.com/). I'm really wondering if changes can really be happening this fast. For lunch I made a turkey sandwich and had potato chips. After about 20 mins of eating I only finished about half the sandwich and less than half the portion of chips I put on my plate. I know (and keep telling myself) that if I get hungry again in a few hours, then I can finish the sandwich (or I should say have more, I should quit saying I'm going to "finish" eating). But what is really striking me is that this is only day 1, and only my second meal. But as I sit here typeing this, I can't get over how greasy the chips are and actually what a bad taste they have left in my mouth. These are Lays Potato chips and I ate them for the last few days out of this same bag. As I ate them, they tasted the same, but now all I can taste is the grease... Has eating slowly now made me more conscience of this and now I really am tasting my food (on the first day)?
On the program last night, Paul said that eat what you want, but you may find that what you want changes and things you currently like you may not like anymore. Is that what is happening, or am I just wanting to believe this already?
Just curious if anyone else has experience similar.

I've always been bigger. Maybe not classified as being fat because I carry it pretty well. But, well, I'm fat. There's no fooling myself. In January, months of hard work paid off as my wife got pregnant with what will be our first child. I had been exercising a bit until that point, but I decided to ramp it up a notch and get my weight to where I can be healthy and be around a long time for my wife and kid.
I've been known to drop 40-50 pounds in 5 months or so on a few occasions, only to slowly gain that weight back over a couple years. This time is different. I know everybody says that and usually that statement doesn't come to fruit, but I've got that incentive...becoming a daddy.
Got a blog rolling- rokandroll.blogspot.com
I post on it a few times a week. Mostly fitness stuff. I try to be somewhat humorous. Check it out if you're REALLY bored.

What I've been doing at work for the past month is eating half of my lunch at 11 and eating the second half at 2-230. It's my best effort to try and eat many smaller meals rather than the three squares that have been ingrained in our heads since the days of the food pyramid. Just anything to keep the metabolism going. I find that I am less likely to raid the fridge when I get home if I split my lunch like that and that can only be a good thing.
As for tastes changing, I find that sweets have gotten a lot sweeter, almost sickening sweet, since I've decided to make a lifestyle change. So I can imagine that the same feeling can accompany greasy tastes. Chips have never been one of my vices, so I can't say for sure. A couple years ago when I had lost a lot of weight I had gotten a pile of General Tso's chicken, which was nearly a weekly staple at the time, and that tasted disgustingly sweet to me. Usually it takes me a couple weeks of being good before I start noticing these things. So, if you're noticing it now, it can only be a good thing. Keep it up!

Hi, I started the Paul McKenna Diet and want to keep track of how it goes. I have about 20 pounds to lose. Those last 10 are always the point where I throw in the towel.

I started following the Paul McKenna style of eating today as well. It took forever to eat what I would normally just woof down in front of the TV. Good luck with this. I'll be amazed if this works.

I used to looove pizza, mcdonalds.. and anything deep fried. Since I started eating healthy and paying attention to the way food tastes, I can't even stand the thought of eating pizza (unless I made it from scratch at home, with homemade wholewheat crust) fast food, or anything deep fried. It just tastes gross.
Eating consciously will defenitely change your tastes in food.

Just updated my comments on my main page, but wanted to share this here also. Last night we wound up going out to eat at On the Border. Good news is that I only ate half the meal (thats amazing for me and my wife even asked if I didn't feel good). Second thing was that my son (he's 13) asked me if I didn't like my food while we were eating. I told him not at all and it was great, but why was he asking. He then replied he had never seen me put my fork down before and thought I didn't like it since I appeared to be forcing my self to eat it. I told him that I was now learning to enjoy my food and not eat so fast. I'm hoping he'll start following this too eventually.
So yes, our kids see how we eat and they notice things like that!

I've been interested in losing weight and gaining muscle here at traineo since late 2007. Its not until mid 2008 that i've actually started my training routine 5 days a week. Trying to get to under 19% body fat.

I wish I had that I'm trying to eat healthy, and it all tastes the same to me. As in, from before I started. I'm only getting sick of maccas and all fast food because i've had it too much. Everytime I go now it feels like I just had it. However, I work at KFC therefore I still eat it... i'm not sick of it.
I wish I had what you guys have got, not really wanting to eat unhealthy. I still believe that unhealthy food tastes better than healthy food, thats why I want it. Obviously the more calories, the worse it is for you... :O Oh well.

I LOVE eating healthy. The more I do, and discover new interesting and exotic foods and prep ideas, the more I want to explore.
There is no satisfaction greater to me than knowing I'm fueling this hi-performance-engine WELL and enjoying the hell out of it too.
'Course it took me some years to get this, so here's hoping that you get there sooner than later, stitch.

While I'm looking at this method as a new way of eating (and not a "diet"), I'm also trying to make better choices in what I'm eating. Per the system, Paul says not to deprive yourself of things you love, but I'm not taking that to mean to just eat junk too. I will admit that for where I am right now, just portion control and taking overall control of the way I eat will do wonders for me. But I also realize that as I get closer and closer to my goal, I do think that eating "healthy" (whatever that really means) will be more key to reaching my goal. But this is all just my opinion.
Stitch, keep up the work you are doing and hang in there. You are a lot further down the road than some of us!

I am a 33 year old mother of a six year old boy. He's my life. Recently joined the local YMCA and started working out. I really enjoy it. I have been wanting to try to loose weight for a while but can't get motivated. Now I'm really ready!

WOW amazing! This morning I had cream of wheat for breakfast. I wolfed it down. So, at lunch I made the same amount but this time I did the whole put your spoon down count to 20 thing and I have taken maybe 8 bites and now I'm full! But, I feel guilty because of waisting the food. That's the bad part. I feel compelled to eat it because it is there and I don't want to waist it. Not going to let myself though.

Mike- I think it CAN happen that fast, especially for those of us who have been "unconscious" about eating. Just thinking about what you are eating and really tasting food will undoubtably make a big difference. I am also noticing changes already. Some foods I thought I really liked are only so-so.

Mike,
I think the changes occurred before day 1... when you finally told yourself that you're going to do eat better.
It's there that something clicked.
That's what happened for me. My change was so simple and straightfoward that I can not understand why everyone can't do it... but then I realize.... the hard part is the decision to do it.

I'm here because I need to be here. Seems like I can't fill myself up lately. Starting the ICMUT program is just what I need.
I'm a retired Grammy, mom, and wife. We've traveled the world thanks to the Air Force. I retired from a hectic and demanding job in our Nation's capital.
Since retirement, life has been grand. I'm busy with Mah Jong, golf, Meals on Wheels, church, family, friends, and travelling. I'm an avid walker.
I have tried to eat low carb most of my life. Weight goes up and down, so guess that isn't the solution. Have wanted to eat intuitively and am very excited about ICMUT.
Looking forward to our shared journey. Love to give and get support.
Life is good.

Mike!!! Terrific!!
Slowing down and really listening to our bodies can and will bring amazing results and as you are seeing....amazing revelations.
I agree, making good food choices is important, too. I bet that as we progress, our bodies will naturally lead us to healthy foods. Mike, you were already tasting the oiliness of chips. Ummmmm....when we stuff food down...no taste. Seems we have to keep eating to try to get the "taste" we are seeking.
Lots of things to learn. Bring it on!!
