I need to get back to 180lbs... I was almost there a few months ago! (I fell off the weightloss band wagon!)

I'm trying to think of a really good one at the moment -- but if someone else has an idea and would like to start a new challenge, by all means, take center stage!

I had thought of one the other day involving holding the "Superman" (or Superwoman ;) hehe) pose { see pic here}...it doesn't isolate the tummy, but it does work the whole core...just gotta be careful w/your form...if you think it's a good idea, run w/it! I'm not one for center stage

Lily, we can do that if you like. Do you want reps or a time limit?
Hey Dean, are you rowing across the Atlantic? I don't know if any of the users here would be interested in doing this with their busy schedules -- I was thinking along the lines of things you could do around the house.

Spoil Sport!!
What about the Basic Fitness Test they do in the British Army over here?
It is Maximum press ups in 2 minutes, maximum sit-ups in 2 minutes and a 1 and a half mile run best effort.
I'm not sure what the minimum standard is but I don't think it s too bad. I think it is something like 44 press-ups, 55 sit-ups and the run in under 10 and a half minutes.
Any takers??

I like the idea of a challenge!! I like Lily's Superwoman idea but have a horrible feeling will start aching almost immediate from muscles hardly used!! LOL!
WIth the Basic Army Fitness test do you have breaks in between the press ups in 2 minutes and sit-ups in 2 minutes etc or do you just go mad for about 10 minutes?

I like participating in sports but I want to be more competitive. Also I'm with Kevin Spacey from American Beauty - good reason :)
I'm looking to lose about a hundred lbs in the course of a year, and basically to just consistently get better. And I love comments and messages, so keep 'em coming!
I talk about goal setting a lot, how about I actually set some?
Well it's time to revisit goals... I didn't do too well with my end of year plans, but learned some things and changed my plans up a bit as I went along. During the 5-7 weeks of the year, I was able to put on about 8-10lbs of muscle, and stay at the same actual weight. The plan is to start the Strong Lifts 5X5 program to supplement the Couch to 5K program, and that should last the next 8-12 weeks.
I'm updating goals as well. Lowering cholesterol remains a goal, and I'll find out about that at the end of August.
Been bouncing around a bit, but getting a little stricter again and will monitor that over the next 3-4 weeks. I feel poised to really lose some weight again, so I'm looking forward to the healthy eating and additional exercise.

Wow, there is no way I could do 44 press-ups (pushups, right??) in 2 minutes. I'm not totally sure I could do 44 in like 30 minutes or something. I know I could do 55 situps in the 2 minutes and if I can ever get a mile and a half in under 10 1/2 minutes, I will think that I am superwoman!

You don't need to yet, unless you are thinking of a career in the British Army.
Also, you don't have to do them all in one go as you have 2 minutes to get your reps in so you can rest in the middle and do 2 sets if you need to.
Quoting: mia79gbr WIth the Basic Army Fitness test do you have breaks in between the press ups in 2 minutes and sit-ups in 2 minutes etc or do you just go mad for about 10 minutes?
A small break so you can all change positions and get in place though from what I understand it isn't that long, it all follows eachother.

Maybe there is a different test for girls? I don't know about that though it would be fairer if there was I guess

Wise decision. Signing up for the military in England is like getting a first class ticket straight to the war zone. So many battles and so few men. Probably similar in America maybe, though you've probably got a much bigger pool of resources than we have. I quite liked the idea of being in the military when I was younger though it was quite naive really. I didn't think for a second about what I would be training to do, I just got excited about all the phys.

Pushups & situps are great, but if we want to keep it indoors, running would be out. How about subbing Mountain Climbers for running?? (You remember Mountain Climbers, right? Always hated those in phys. ed. :P)
Though, if you want something that's really good for the gut, how about Dive Bombers? hehe....
edited to add: I didn't hate Mountain Climbers b/c they were difficult...I hated them b/c my ass was up in the air & with my luck I always had some "unpleasant" boy behind me in class.

I take it we got no takers for trying the Basic Army Fitness test then eh??
Wussies!!
What about if we did most reps in a minute for 5 different exercises then added up all of the reps to get an individual score??
We can choose the exercises together to make it fair

Unfair! Some of us simply CAN'T run, dear...(I've dislocated my right knee 3 times...running is not an option til I get my weight down to a reasonable amt)
I suggested some alternatives for the running portion & am up for the other exercises (push ups/situps), even though I know I will never win - not @ this point in time, anyway...look me up when I'm 130 lbs & THEN we'll see who's fit! LOL

That's the idea! I'd say it was fair to have a minute or two's rest between sets to make it more accessible to everyone, though if you really want to go for it and the masses agree, then don't let me spoil the party.
