The people have asked for more challenges...

Here's another simple challenge you can do at home. There isn't a ton of exercise value in this, but it's a fun challenge to test your mental endurance more than anything.

Lean against the wall with your feet shoulder width apart and squat into a sitting position. Keep your quads parallel to the ground, and make sure your knees don't extend past your feet. See how long you can hold this.

This will probably spaz the legs? I'm sure it will be another killer.

Why are you using all these discipline exercises, Dave? (Did you get in trouble a lot when you were a kid?) LOL!

You might feel this a little in the quads

Those records are sealed!

Discipline exercises are important because our bodies are capable of many times more than we think. We often hold ourselves back because we think we can't do any more, when in reality we've barely begun to scratch the surface of what we are capable of. This is true in life as well as exercise, but the returns are quicker and more obvious when doing something like wall chairs.

So, take these examples beyond the gym and realize what we've done is nothing compared to what we are capable of

We used to have to do these for b-ball back in the day. I'm going to have to try this one and see what I can get.

So, I put a chair against the wall and sit on it so my quads are parallel to the floor. No problem! I can do that all day!

yea, i did this in basketball too, after holding the squat position for a minute or two(or however long Coach wanted to torture us!) we would sprint to the other end and back, to start over again.
ill try this in a bit tho, and post it. i would think it would help strength our quads, right?

Its a good filler exercise for home workouts if you can't make it to a gym.

Not as efective as lunges imho, but it will work those legs in endurance/strength ways.

Just make sure the form is good

Btw, what does this have to do with gut busting?

Why do you have to be like that???

Just for you - get a medicine ball when you're doing these, swing it down to the floor granny style, then swing it up and toss it and catch it... Repeat until you can no longer hold the wall chair. (remember to keep your abs tight!)

Haha! I was already planning on doing the plank again tonight so I'll get plenty of abs work in, but that is a good idea on the medicine ball. Make the challenge even tougher! I like it!!

Alrighty, well I did the plank again because and held it for 5 extra sec to get to 95 sec. And then I did the wall sit for 3 minutes. By that time my heel was literally bouncing up and down as if it were some sort of bouncy ball. Hehe.

Is it cheating if you brace yourself with your arms? If so my score is no good.

I tried it tonight and lasted roughly 2 minutes before I had to slide down to the floor to gain feeling back in my legs again.

Last one went 13 days.. I'll say this one goes 10, so Richard better come up with a good challenge by Friday. That said, I'm going to do this for more than 3 minutes tonight ;)

Dave, you never answered my question -- can you brace yourself or should your arms be pressed up against the wall?

Rachael, I was trying to lose the fat not muscle control. LOL!

I would think that bracing is cheating a bit, i tend to put my hands on my legs if anywhere. Try it without and see if it's harder?

FWIW, if you have to ask if it's cheating, it probably is

You are not allowed to use your hands!!! Back in highschool if we touched the wall or even our legs with our hands, we got yelled at. So I did not hold onto anything, I left my arms limply by my side or toward the end I was kinda moving them around to take the focus off the shaking weak legs.

If you want to lightly rest them on your thighs, I guess that would be okay, but no pressing on them!!

Ok, 1 minute 20 seconds was all my legs could bare! I placed my hands lightly on my thighs, that's all.

Anyone else try it -- Rachael, you definitely got me beat on this one!

I'm going to say Rachel wins, I almost made 3min but decided it wasn't worth crying over

(because 2 more seconds and that is exactly what I would have been doing!)

Heehee. Glad a little competition makes you strive for excellence, Richard!! I might try the superwoman tonight but I think I've pulled something in my back so I might not be able to.

Ok, I stayed up for 3 minutes and 5 seconds -- Of course, I'm paralyzed from the waist down now, but I'm happy I passed Rachael's 3 minute mark! LOL! (Ouch, my legs hurt from laughing -- guess I'm not paralyzed after all.)

Who's next? (I'm throwing in my towel.)

Oh, I see how it is! Well tonight I'm spinning for 50 minutes then running for 30 and tomorrow I'm running for 50 minutes so maybe I'll do the wall sit again on Thurs.
