How long can you do it for? Toes and forearms on the ground, body straight and taut.

umm, so "planks" are... just being in pushup position for a long time? (I have a "one dumb question per day" limit that I'm using now )

hehe, that's not a dumb question (though, if only there were some technology that allowed you to search for the term 'plank' on the internets... I'll bet it would send you somewhere like here)...

It's not exactly a push up, as your elbows are resting on the ground, but you need to keep the rest of your body tight like in a pushup

I used to do sets of a minute when I last did it and that was enough to feel the burn. I've seen people really good at them last for ages though?? Streuth!!

Oh my gosh, the plank makes me want to die. I don't even feel like it works my abs all that much, I feel it in my arms and lower back for some reason.

Nice challenge Dave -- this oughta bring the burn on! I'm going to aim for a minute, (if I can.)

I can do 60 secs and if I am feeling well maybe 75 secs, but I am not strong enough to do much more then that. Its in my new workout and I am suppose to be increasing the time ove the course of the program, so we'll see!

I'll aim for 2 minutes and 30 seconds, (half of your goal.) I've done these in the past and they are KILLERS!

I think that women naturally find planks more difficult because we have a different center of gravity - kinda how we find pushups more difficult.

I totally agree, Rachael. Plus, there's the fact that we generally don't have the same upper body strength as men.

Planks kill me! They are part of my core routine & they hurt (in a good way). I know I can do a minute, but I'm usually shaking by the end of that minute.

I'll shoot for 2.5 min That more than doubles what I'm doing now! (And Dave, you ROCK for shooting for 5 min!! OMG...I can't imagine that at all!)

I can surely imagine it! I don't know if I can do it, but I'd sure as hell rather fail than not try at all

I usually do a minute and a half set after my regular ab exercises, great way to finish a workout.

I only made it 45 seconds and couldn't imagine lasting another second! It actually hurts my forearms more than anything, though I could feel my thighs starting to shake a bit at the end. Good challenge, Dave!

Keep up with it and you will get stronger and be able to hold it for longer. When I started I couldn't hold it for more then 30 secs and now I am up to a min +.

You wil get there!

When are we going to post results for the challenge? Just so I'll know when if I need to do it tonight or if I can wait for my regular abs day tomorrow.

I tried and was shaking so bad I couldn't see the second hand on my watch. So I got my digital watch and shook until 67 seconds when my body failed me.

I only made it to 65 seconds before my body came crashing down to the Earth. I didn't even get close to a minute and a half -- but I did make it past a minute -- Woo Hoo!!!

I was only able to do this for 47 seconds last night. I will try this again this evening and see if I can improve on this time.

Ok, I just did it again -- this time 132 seconds! (That's 2 minutes and 12 seconds.)

Anyone want to top that?
