I want to challenge everyone to see when it "burns" while doing crunches.
Instructions:
1.) lay yourself on the floor looking at the ceiling with you knees pointing opposite directions, (left and right,) your feet sole to sole. (It almost looks like indian style.)
2.) Now place your hands behind your neck, lightly touching for balance only -- no tugging your head, (you will need it later, you know?)
3.) Lift your torso up just enough to where you feel your tummy tighten, keep your elbows pointing out left and right, (don't fold them in.) -- hold for ten seconds then count down from ten till your back to the floor.
4.) Keep doing this till you literally can do no more.
5.) Record your reps that you did and post them as your final score.
6.) Use this template to show your information:
Name: Fred E.
Age: 30
Gender: M
Waist: 36"
Reps: 20
7.) Have fun and don't kill yourself.

I've always been bigger. Maybe not classified as being fat because I carry it pretty well. But, well, I'm fat. There's no fooling myself. In January, months of hard work paid off as my wife got pregnant with what will be our first child. I had been exercising a bit until that point, but I decided to ramp it up a notch and get my weight to where I can be healthy and be around a long time for my wife and kid.
I've been known to drop 40-50 pounds in 5 months or so on a few occasions, only to slowly gain that weight back over a couple years. This time is different. I know everybody says that and usually that statement doesn't come to fruit, but I've got that incentive...becoming a daddy.
Got a blog rolling- rokandroll.blogspot.com
I post on it a few times a week. Mostly fitness stuff. I try to be somewhat humorous. Check it out if you're REALLY bored.

I am using the Zone way of eating (www.drsears.com) to attain my target and increase my wellness.
I'm losing weight for my health, energy, and for my friend's wedding so no one mistakes me for Ms. Piggy's sister.

So, is this even a full "crunch"?

Haha, serves you right -- don't be wasting beer like that!

I don't know, just as soon as you feel major tension in the mid section, hold for 10, then count down while you descend -- then repeat until you can't.

I used to hate all forms of exercise, now I bike all over the place, jog from time to time, attend Jazzercise class, take a Pilates/Yoga class, do Turbo Jam, and I'm doing some free weight exercises.
Life is good - and I plan to keep it this way!
80 lbs down! Woohoo!

I'm basically trying to get in shape and be healthy...
diaryofthefatman.blogspot.com
I like participating in sports but I want to be more competitive. Also I'm with Kevin Spacey from American Beauty - good reason :)
I'm looking to lose about a hundred lbs in the course of a year, and basically to just consistently get better. And I love comments and messages, so keep 'em coming!
I talk about goal setting a lot, how about I actually set some?
Well it's time to revisit goals... I didn't do too well with my end of year plans, but learned some things and changed my plans up a bit as I went along. During the 5-7 weeks of the year, I was able to put on about 8-10lbs of muscle, and stay at the same actual weight. The plan is to start the Strong Lifts 5X5 program to supplement the Couch to 5K program, and that should last the next 8-12 weeks.
I'm updating goals as well. Lowering cholesterol remains a goal, and I'll find out about that at the end of August.
Been bouncing around a bit, but getting a little stricter again and will monitor that over the next 3-4 weeks. I feel poised to really lose some weight again, so I'm looking forward to the healthy eating and additional exercise.

There are a ton of different opinions on what a crunch is... This is pretty close, and probably the best way to do crunches - a full one is a waste and the pause will mean a much stronger contraction....
Haven't done it yet, but I think I'll burn after about 2

My muscles begin to tighten before I'm even off the floor, which is why I'm asking.

Yeah, the key here is 'major tension'... Basically, you go from major to very little tension once you pass a certain point (I think it's about 30 deg or so)... Look for that peak and go to there... I try to raise my whole back off the floor, and then just bring my shoulders forward when I hit that point in order to get more contraction....

Congrats to Ivie, (again,) for pulverizing Dave V. and Richard H. in this quest for a tough tummy!
I seriously could not have done more than 15 -- my tummy would not allow it.

Is this challenge already over? Dang! I wish they'd get the stupid issue with the groups being public fixed so that I will quit missing posts from the groups I'm actually in!

Sorry Rachael, it had to end sooner or later. We can always start up another challenge to continue to aim at the mid section. ;)
