Sitting on the floor with your legs straight or slightly bent, how long is your average time of holding your toes? Try doing this every day until Saturday and see what the average hold time you have.
To average your time, count all the seconds or minutes and divide by the number of times you did it. (I.E.: Monday: 25 seconds, Tuesday: 45 seconds, Wednesday: 20 seconds, Thursday: 40 seconds, Friday: 19 seconds, and Saturday: 38 seconds. Add all the seconds [25+45+20+40+19+38 = 187] divide by the number of attempts and your average holding seconds would equal 30.6 seconds.)
Please specify your info:
Name: Fred E.
Age: 30
Gender: M
Waist: 36"
Average toe hold time: 20 seconds
You don't have to do it every day, but it helps with the average if you do -- and it helps the ol' abs too.

I'm a journalist, and I really want to lose weight and be much healthier than I am. With such a fast-paced job, it's hard to find time to eat well and exercise, but I'm doing my best!

I can't hold my toes. Hammies are too tight.

I'm basically trying to get in shape and be healthy...
diaryofthefatman.blogspot.com
I like participating in sports but I want to be more competitive. Also I'm with Kevin Spacey from American Beauty - good reason :)
I'm looking to lose about a hundred lbs in the course of a year, and basically to just consistently get better. And I love comments and messages, so keep 'em coming!
I talk about goal setting a lot, how about I actually set some?
Well it's time to revisit goals... I didn't do too well with my end of year plans, but learned some things and changed my plans up a bit as I went along. During the 5-7 weeks of the year, I was able to put on about 8-10lbs of muscle, and stay at the same actual weight. The plan is to start the Strong Lifts 5X5 program to supplement the Couch to 5K program, and that should last the next 8-12 weeks.
I'm updating goals as well. Lowering cholesterol remains a goal, and I'll find out about that at the end of August.
Been bouncing around a bit, but getting a little stricter again and will monitor that over the next 3-4 weeks. I feel poised to really lose some weight again, so I'm looking forward to the healthy eating and additional exercise.

Yup, feet together. :P
I did it for it for 40 seconds tonight. My legs started to really feel the pain, (I tried to keep them as straight as I could.) Tummy seems to be fine -- (It was only 40 seconds. )
Anyone else give it a go? Hopefully I'll do better tomorrow.

I am trying to get fit and thin so that I can stop being the 'man that keeps getting fatter' and to help get my triglyceride count down to normal levels.

I can jump into this. I am extremely flexible so you better hold your toes as long as you possibly can!

Is holding your toes like this just a stretch? or does it make the muscles stronger as well?

Not much to say, I like playing video games and watching/playing sports. I work as a web developer for a small company.
I think when I get into shape I want to become a volunteer firefighter.

I am using the Zone way of eating (www.drsears.com) to attain my target and increase my wellness.
I'm losing weight for my health, energy, and for my friend's wedding so no one mistakes me for Ms. Piggy's sister.

I can't touch my toes (never been able to), but I can do ANYTHING else that demonstrates flexibility, including putting my feet behind my head. Why do they always make you touch your toes as the end-all-be-all flexibility test?! Grrrr....
I'll blame it on my short torso and impossibly long legs, hahahaha.

I've never been flexible so the rest of you have this in the bag! I'll try to push myself to at least a minute -- if my legs can put up with such an extended timed stretch.
Some day I would like to be able to touch my nose to my knees w/o the pain in the back and legs, of course. Right now, just thinking about that brings me pain.

Dave - I will do this tonight. I know I can go well over two minutes. I can reach my toes rather easily. Bring on the competition! (I may have short legs or monkey arms or a combination of the two....)

FWIW, I'm actually touching the bottom of my feet to get that extra stretch in!

Dave, I can go well over 30 mins (tried earlier while watching TV), also grabbing the bottom of my feet :P It does get rather boring tho', doesn't it?
Anyway, I've always been told I have "monkey" feet b/c of my prehensile toes, so I guess this clinches it - I'm part monkey! ;)
In either case, I don't think it'd be fair to the rest of y'all if I compete...hehe

Nonsense Lilly! If you can beat Dave and Jeff at their own game -- why not do it!?
I'm the biggest wuss here so I'm just doing it for personal satisfaction and a lot of humiliation. But who cares, that's why it's called a challenge!

At 23 minutes it began to hurt really bad. I stopped because my legs started to shake at 27 minutes, so it looks like I can't hold that position for as long as I thought I could.

Having a shorter "hold" time does NOT make you a wuss...silly! No humiliation either! :P
In my case, I have an explanation: short legs (my inseam is only 29", I think) and crazy flexibility. (Whenever they told us to touch our toes in PE, I'd put my palms on the floor.) Oh, and I do yoga...an admitted unfair advantage. ;)

I don't do yoga, but do have short legs as well - that helps
I got to about 38 minutes and was just uncomfortable - big stomach! I was definitely feeling the burn though.

Wow Dave, I'm just 37 minutes short of your time -- I'd have to say I'm doing pretty good!
That's right people, I was able to suffer through 1 full minute of pure leg-muscle-pulling agony. Yes, I AM a wuss! (But I did beat my score.)
I'll try to push a little harder tonight -- in the long run, my legs will thank me for it. (Wow, such a play on words!)

Unlike the rest of you, my legs are longer than arms reach, (and I have a bowl of jelly that keeps me away from my toes.)
Anyway, after all the constant attempts, this is the best score I was able to do:
Name: Richard H.
Age: 32
Gender: M
Waist: 40"
Average toe hold time: 1minute 30 seconds (knees slightly bent to reach an extra 4" to touch my toes -- yes, I know I cheated a bit.)
Get you're OFFICIAL scores in -- today is the last day to post 'em.
