Hi guys,

As always, I continue to be impressed by this site and your dedication to making it useful for the community.

I've recently started using the custom logs and I think there's one feature that would make them even more useful. Right now, if you add a custom log, the system displays it as "the more the better". It would be nice if there was an option when setting up a custom log to say "less is more". For instance, if I set up a custom log to track how much beer I'm drinking, then obviously, the fewer bottles the better; the graph, however, makes it look like more bottles is better. I know I could just flip my thinking around, but it would be nice if the graphing could be flipped so it was consistent with the standard logs.

Cheers,
Kamal

p.s. If there's a way to do this that I haven't figured out, I apologize for the newbie moment in advance.

I have noticed a discrepancy in the amount of estimated calories burned on traineo vs. my polar heart rate monitor. I am a competitive runner and according to my heart rate monitor burned 400 calories on a 40 minute run this morning. Traineo says that I burned 597 calories.

Is this because I set my monitor to a competitive level, rather than a regular exerciser?

Hi Lisa -

I'd like to point out that using a heart rate monitor to approximate calorie expenditure is not an ideal method as the relationship between heart rate and calories burned can vary quite a bit between individuals. I'm a competitive runner myself and I use a Polar Heart Monitor on a regular basis - Polar monitor's use heart rate data as a proxy for calorie expenditure which gives you a rough estimate which does work well as a benchmark although it's difficult to know how accurate these values actually are.

traineo's method is of course is also a rough approximation designed to make your exercise tracking simple and pain-free! If you'd like to use the Polar values as your relative benchmark you can enter this value by clicking 'Enter custom value' for each exercise on your workout tab.

What kind of distances do you run and what Polar monitor due you use?

I hope this helps clarify the discrepancy.

Good luck with your fitness goals,

Alasdair
