We've just released 'traineo groups' - Now you can create and customize your own traineo group, invite friends, family and traineo contacts into it then work together to reach your health and fitness goals in your own mini-community within traineo.
We're still working to add a number of features to the traineo group functionality so we'd love to hear feedback and suggestions to help improve this area of traineo.
We're really excited to see the groups and challenges that are going to be created. We hope you enjoy this enhancement and thanks for your support!
p.s. traineo Groups are a great way to get your own private 'biggest loser' or fitness challenge competition going between family, friends, co-workers or teammates.

Well, it would be nice to get into a (public) group without having to join straight away.

My fitness regimen includes stationary cycling, light weight training and lots of walking around NYC. I'm a graduate of WeightWatchers and an enthusiastic advocate of its balanced approach to weight loss. I'm sure that I drink too much coffee and get too little sleep. :)
My goals are to maintain my weight in a healthy BMI/BF % range and forestall the toll of advancing age. :)
I think Traineo's established a great community and appreciate the support and information we share.

@Alisdair: Have you considered creating a Traineo wiki? Members could contribute to and maintain a body of knowledge related to weight loss and fitness.

Hi NYC -
Thank you, that is another great suggestion - we're discussing that idea and I agree some form of wiki would be an excellent knowledgebase for the traineo community.
Thanks for the suggestion and feedback - the most important thing is for these ideas to be built around our users so please keep the ideas coming!
We'll keep you posted on the status of the enhancements we've got planned.
Take care,
Alasdair

With a family history of obesity, staying fit and losing weight for me are more than nice-to-haves: They're essentials.

Might be nice if the group could provide statistics: # of pounds lost per member or collectively, progress toward a group weight loss goal. Progress v. another group, etc.

@ Ben J - I agree! The "Join Group" button should be on each group page - so you can see some of the group before you join.

@Alisdair - I would love to be able to send a mass message to the group members. Messages such as meet up plans, encouragement, personal updates, latest trends.

I still see a Join group button even if I am already in a group. I would like some sort of visual cue I am in it. Maybe a stick figure man or something.
Also- could there be a couple template icons groups can choose from when they start up? Or maybe each category of group has a different default group icon? I have a feeling most groups will be using whatever the plain jane option is - and I would like to see a variety of icons.

Alisdair,
It has been a while sinceI logged in. I am so glad to see the Groups feature. And you even have Sean O sign up himself! WOW.
It would be nice if a Group could be structured with a few parameters.
Some groups do not need more than a thread. For instance, Cardio coach is an ongoing challenge where people have to post how well they fared doing a work out. This type of Group needs very few parameters to structure it (Sean O has asked for calories burned)
Some other forums feature Rotation Check-Ins. his requires support from the site for structuring. An example of a rotation could be doing Cardio Coach 3 times a week mixed with say Weight Training thrice a week. The latter would have a fixed start and end date. For a Rotation, there would be a specific workout program defined, a start set of stats that people can post and an end set of stats. People could post experiences checking in after every completed or missed workout.
I am not sure I have articulated this request well. My post was mainly to thank you for this feature.

I am 29 years old and have grown passionate about fitness and health! Overall, I have lost and kept off a little over 40 pounds, and I have about 20 or so more that I would like to take off. This last year has been tough and distracting in many ways, and I am back to work now! I am revisiting Traineo, because this site and the people here were instrumental in helping me lose my original 40 pounds so I am back! I regret that because of time constraints I won't be able to be AS active in the forums as I used to, but I will certainly try to stay in there and reconnect with old friend as well as make new ones.
My fitness goals remain the same as before as I haven't achieved them yet: *GOAL 1 = 140 lbs Target Date = 7/31/08 Date Met = TBD CURRENT FITNESS GOALS: Run a 5K, improve flexibility enough to do the splits, be able to do 50 pushups in a row, be able to do a pull-up, learn to do a hand stand and then hand stand pushups. :)

I agree with Chelsea that the capability to send a message to the group would be great.
Thanks for everything!
