I am 26. College, stress, 21 meal plan... all caused me to go from 180 to 320. I realize I will probably never be 180 again but I think 250 is a very reasonable goal. My photo is a reminder to me that my body CAN be smaller and I CAN survive without massive amounts of food.

What about having more than 4 motivators? I wanted to invite a bunch of friends and ask them to be motivators and in turn, be their motivator. I don't think 4 is enough, at least for me personally.

Also, more workouts would be nice. In a given day I might jog, swim, weight train and do a lot of walking.
Adding hockey to the list would be nice too as hockey season startsup in a month.

In June I turned 30 years old and after 11 years of commuting, I finally landed a job in the same city I live in as a webmaster. My wife and I are expecting our first child Oct. 31. I quit smoking Nov. 23, 2005 after a decade of the habit (five years as a "social smoker," five more years as a full-on regular).
Most of my issues falls in these two areas:
Consistency: I'm bad about not going to bed on time, so I don't get up on time and I don't do my workouts when I'd like to. I'd like to get a solid routine that rarely wavers. I want my routine to become so much a part of my life that if my friends ask me to go out I can say, "Well, I have my workout first, but I can meet you after that." I want this to be important.
Motivation: A few months ago I tried working out and started off well losing 4 lbs. After that initial loss, however, I stalled. I don't really know why. I was eating very well. I was doing my workouts. But nothing budged. I got frustrated and gave up after a month. I know I have the potential to lose much more than that in one month's time, so that small loss was unacceptable in my eyes.
Spending much of my day in front of the computer, I realize I'm living a sedimentary lifestyle that isn't healthy. Having a baby on the way has reshaped my thinking. I don't want to be out of breath and worn out chasing my kid. I want to run with my new child when the time comes. Finally, I fell like I've cheated my wife. When she met me, I was much thinner (around 190 lbs.), worked out regularly and ate right. I was a positive example and had a pretty decent body. Now, I'm round in the middle and overweight. I want to improve my body and give her the husband she married, at least the looks of the guy she fell in love with.

How about adding a way to chart food intake. That is, after all, half of a great workout plan. Have you seen peertrainer.com?

Hi Eric,
What do you mean by chart food intake? Do you mean along the lines of the diet tab?
Thanks,
Max

I mean a place where I can write down what I eat.
I find that when I can chart (record) my intake, I'm less prone to cheat. Basically just a text field for breakfast, lunch dinner and however many snacks one chooses. I'm on body for life, so I eat six times a day (small meals).
Hope that helps! I really like this site. I think a way to track food intake would put it over the top.

Hi Eric,
Thanks for the suggestion - we're actually currently working on the functionality you descibre, so you can set details of exactly what you eat in a day, using foods and meals taken from the USDA database. This'll all be stored for you, and will affect your diet score accordingly - the functionality will be optional, there'll still be the sliders for those who prefer it.
Thanks,
Max

That sounds great! Since there are several programs out there that don't use calorie counting (Weight Watchers, Body-for-Life, The ABs Diet), I think a lot of people will benefit from this.
Keep up the great work!

What about a way to log partial kcals throughout the day. For example, it's 4PM here, and I just spent 10-15 mins figuring out that I've consumed app 1900 kcals today. I want to log that so I can add to it tonight after supper, but currently I have to rely on memory. Heck, even the ability to send a message to myself within Traineo would work fine.

I'm a network engineer in the Great Northwest and I co-host a podcast at geekfit.com with Jason Tucker (abstrakone).
When I started this journey in March 2005 I weighed around 400 lbs.
The thing that jarred me into motion was a picture my wife had taken on Christmas morning 2004. I was sitting in a low armchair wearing my usual outfit: sweats and a t-shirt. It went from belly to legs to feet -- no knees!! I said, "oh hell no."
I got myself a gym membership and started out swimming every morning. That progressed to the treadmill and finally to where I am today which is riding a bike 7-10 miles at a clip and playing DDR at the local bowling alley a few days a week.
It feels so good I think I'm going to keep going. ;)

- I would really like 'spinning' as an activity in the workout section. It's a lot different than regular cycling and burns more calories than 'really hard'.
- I would also like to just erase a workout when I make a mistake, like when I enter it in the wrong date. I do that a lot. Now I just enter 1 minute and 1 custom calorie when I want to erase a workout.

I'm new and this seems obvious, but I can't find how to change it. Can you not go back a day or two to add/edit a specific day's results? Or are you stuck with having to enter data every night?

Paul if you look for the yellow bar in the upper right hand of the page (but below the upper navigation tabs) you will see a "Go To Date" highlighted.
Hope this helps.

I also have to write down everything I eat or else I get off track. Maybe somewhere that I could check off how many glasses of water I've had would be helpful, too. Water is KEY for losing weight.
The site's looking good, boys! I love that you are continuing to improve it.

Are you able to use the polling module for miniBB? If so maybe putting the Wish lists up to vote on would be a good way to let the community point you in the right direction.
That is just my thought anyways.

Just a quick request to think about reporting different kinds of information on the graphs. Some sort of moving average would really help.
Also, as requested elsewhere in the forums, an "I did not work out today" button would be appreciated too. Don't want to get credit for days when I'm lazy ;)

Hey Austin,
All on the todo - I did not work out today should be in the next rollup (early next week), but the moving averages will be a little longer - it's pretty tough to draw anything other than straight lines, and keep things fast, so we're still working on that!
@Jeremiah - we're not going to use the miniBB polling option - we're actually going to throw together something of our own - we want to give a little more flexibility with re: people adding ideas and people voting on them, and a way for us to show which are coming, which aren't, and when things are happening.
Thanks
Maxwell

JiFF - The soon to be 200 lb groom
I missed my goal to be the 200 pound groom. Life messed me up something huge, but I am back now.
I am back with a vengence. And hopefully a new Username (if the nice folks at Traineo can hook that up for me).
I am taking a new approach due to some new developments. Looks like i got me some of the "High Blood Pressure" and I really need to get back to it. I am going to be changing a lot of things, and going back to WHAT I KNOW WORKS.
Back to my regular routine.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK

Great website--I'm using it together with the Caloire King software (very, very easy way to record calories (but also fat/ protein/ fiber, etc.) and the Men's Health Personal Trainer (good idea, but with some kinks they don't appear to be working on.)
I would make one small suggestion--that you can manually add the calories for your work out. I use a running calculator to figure out how many calories I burned on a run and would like to be able to just enter that figure.
Thanks!

Hi Brandon
It is already possible to do this. If you go to your 'My Workout' page and click the 'Enter Exact Cals' above the 'Enter Data' button, you can enter a precise figure
Hope that helps!

My fitness regimen includes stationary cycling, light weight training and lots of walking around NYC. I'm a graduate of WeightWatchers and an enthusiastic advocate of its balanced approach to weight loss. I'm sure that I drink too much coffee and get too little sleep. :)
My goals are to maintain my weight in a healthy BMI/BF % range and forestall the toll of advancing age. :)
I think Traineo's established a great community and appreciate the support and information we share.

I'm a 42-year-old graphic designer / computer programmer / information architect / non-profit fundraiser / spiritual teacher / boardgame designer aspiring to become an ordained interfaith minister in the next couple of years in order to provide spiritual counseling.
I have a 20-year-old daughter who's brilliant, lovely, and stunningly creative. I'm currently single and dating, and I seem to be falling in love again, which is wonderful.
I've been overweight since I was 11 or 12, and have lost hundreds of pounds over the years. Two years ago I had an epiphany and at 326 pounds, my all-time high, began to take care of my body. Injuries from an auto accident delayed my continued weight loss until I managed to heal sufficiently in October of 2006. The difficulty still flares up regularly, limiting my exercise, but it's improving all the time, and I'm steadily losing weight nonetheless.
My biggest breakthrough was a couple of months ago when I realized that all of the childhood stuff that had been contributing to my body-image and eating troubles could be forgiven without need to accept or come to terms with them. Forgiveness is as basic as asking yourself if being unhappy about the situation or event is serving you now, and if not, accepting that it's no longer important and moving on.
I'm glad to have found Traineo, as the tools have helped keep me on track and the incredible people in the community have kept me inspired, informed, and ignited!

Some frustrations I have with the interface:
1. Unable to delete a workout. I added a workout that I was going to do in the afternoon (hiking with friends) but it turns out we didn't go. I have no way to delete it. I set it to 1 minute, but obviously I'd prefer deleting it. Not sure why setting it to 0 minutes doesn't delete it.
2. Unable to reset my start. I joined the community and guessed my starting weight since I wasn't near a scale. I didn't actually start my new lifestyle until almost a month later, and I did weigh myself then. I've since gone back and set the first day's weight to my actual weight, but it shows that I gained 6 pounds as a result, which didn't actually happen. It's disheartening to see it say I've gained 6 pounds every time I look at it, even though I know it's an interface issue.
3. Error with weight loss/gained. Since I set my first day's weight to my actual weight, it now shows my total weight lost correctly (19.5 pounds), but says that it's 19.5 pounds gained, which clearly isn't correct. Again, I know it's an interface issue, but seeing "Weight Gained: 19.5 lbs" is also pretty disheartening.

I do see where I can reset my start, but it still erroneously indicates that I've gained 19.5 pounds instead of losing them.
