I started on a serious weight loss program in September of 2006. My starting weight was 242 pounds. I'm 5' 5" tall. My current weight is 180 pounds. I was determined to do it on my own - no paid programs, pills, etc. My goal is to be 165. As of 12/1/07 - I've met my goal of 165!. Now for 2008 I'm going to focus on maintaining. Any additional lost pounds will be a bonus.
New Year and I've decided to set a new goal. I'm striving for 145 pounds. 1/30/08 - down 5 pounds....

I decided to Google myself this morning. On the 1st page of results, there was a link to a post I made in Traineo.... Uh Oh, I don't think I want my personal info out there for the world to see. Is this supposed to happen or are the posts made in Traineo supposed to stay in Traineo? Anyone else notice this? Diane

Yes, I've noticed this also. I googled myself once and was quite surprised how much activity came up.
We're all mini celebrities!! And I can't hide where I've been because google is watching me??

Dean - I guess that's another way to look at it! I'm just a little uncomfortable with my weight and statistics being outside this forum...

That's what I call accountable!!
I know what you mean and I sympathise with your situation. Maybe it is worth contacting the traineo team and making that point. Perhaps those stats should only be visible to members, and like facebook perhaps you could have the option of showing a limited profile?
Might be an interesting way to look at things?

Under the About Me tab on your home page, you can change your profile visibility & privacy settings so that no one outside traineo can see your page or info. Also, if you don't want google to "find" you, change your display name (same tab, to the right under "Name & Starting Weight"). Hope that helps

I'm basically trying to get in shape and be healthy...
diaryofthefatman.blogspot.com
I like participating in sports but I want to be more competitive. Also I'm with Kevin Spacey from American Beauty - good reason :)
I'm looking to lose about a hundred lbs in the course of a year, and basically to just consistently get better. And I love comments and messages, so keep 'em coming!
I talk about goal setting a lot, how about I actually set some?
Well it's time to revisit goals... I didn't do too well with my end of year plans, but learned some things and changed my plans up a bit as I went along. During the 5-7 weeks of the year, I was able to put on about 8-10lbs of muscle, and stay at the same actual weight. The plan is to start the Strong Lifts 5X5 program to supplement the Couch to 5K program, and that should last the next 8-12 weeks.
I'm updating goals as well. Lowering cholesterol remains a goal, and I'll find out about that at the end of August.
Been bouncing around a bit, but getting a little stricter again and will monitor that over the next 3-4 weeks. I feel poised to really lose some weight again, so I'm looking forward to the healthy eating and additional exercise.

Ditto on the visibility!
What this also means is that Traineo is going to get more exposure through the natural/organic search results, and that's FANTASTIC!
(congrats to the traineo team)
And why wouldn't you want the world to know how freakin awesome you're doing????

FWIW, I used to come up in Google for a somewhat tongue-in-cheek wikipedia entry I created for myself.... I think it's time to bring back:

Lilly - thank you! I made the changes!
Dave - I agree with you about Traineo getting visibility...maybe women are a little more sensitive about their weight. I have no problem whatsoever displaying it within Traineo - we are all here for the same thing!

Thanks Diane!
When I was at school my best friend used to call me 'The Eternal Optimist' because I was always so full of dreams, promise and positive stories. Seems funny to think that all these years on I haven't really changed that much. He even addressed all of my Birthday and Christmas cards to 'The Eternal Optimist'. Was always a bit of a joke at the time.
Thanks for explaining how you can work the visibility Lilly. I ddn't realise you could do all that.

I couldn't help it - I changed the privacy settings! Sorry guess I'm not as accountable as I should be, although, don't get me wrong, I'm very proud of what I've accomplished so far!

Does it really matter all that much? So what if Joe Bloggs manages to know your name, google it and find out your weight? He can't get your bank details, all he can do is marvel at your dedication. There is so much of us out there in the ether that no one is really private anymore, I say lets enjoy it.

I'd say it's a positive thing. If someone Googles you and finds out you're undertaking personal improvement of your own initiative, it can't be bad.

It's no good if you post something negative about your health. For example, you go to the doctor after feeling odd during a strenous workout and find out you have a mild heart condition. Life Insurance representative gets your application, googles your name and sees that you posted you have a heart condition that didn't show up when they did your at home physical, or that you found out about after your physical.
Now you can't get life insurance, or medical insurance, and maybe you mentioned something that can be classified as a pre-existing condition that you insurance company can use against you in your claims.
There are plenty of reasons for not posting personally identifiable information on the internet, good and/or bad.

I am 43 years old and am married to my wife of 20 years, Pam. We have 2 sons ages 19 and 17.
This is around my second month of eating and living better. I started out at 265lbs. Through good food and walking I am down to 240. This is due to the great support I get from my wife and kids. I have gone from a 38 waist to 34 and don't plan on stopping there. I going to keep going until I get to 195 or I just look so good there is no reason to move on.
I do however have to thank Fat 2 Fit Podcasts and Motivation to Move. Without them this would be alot harder than it is.

Ok guys I tryed to Google my name and it did give my name my wife, my mom and places I have lived in the last 25 years. But it had me down as 72 years old not 43. So I guess my next question is where is my SSI check and how come I don't get the senior discount.

If you don't want to be known on the internet - just use a pseudonym, problem solved.
