I wonder why there are so many men and not so many women? Usually it is the ladies who are concerned with the wight loss.

Probably because this website was displayed on digg.com and thats where a lot of the new members are from. Also, digg's memberbase is like 90% male.

I would say that weight loss is of universal concern at a certain point. Men have as many, or even more, health concerns that may encourage weight loss. Often times more men are overweight than women (I could make up a statistic right now, but let's just say this is from general observation).
Women are often "more concerned" with weight loss because society bases a lot of their value on their appearance and attractiveness. I would also say that is the main reason why they are NOT on this site. Most women concerned with weightloss do not want to share with hundreds of people that they feel and/or are overweight.
Either that, or digg is really where most of the subscribers came from. Yeah, it's probably because of digg but I think the other concerns are valid.

We had a large number of people sign up from digg.com, but since then we've had a substantial number from all over the place.
Good insights Aaron, I think that you may have a point there, but at the same time it is possible to be on traineo and not be visible/participate in the community aspect. The proportion of women to men has actually been steadily increasing since yesterday afternoon, so we'll see where it goes.

I'm a sedentary geek with a background in random sports. I dance. I used to do rollerderby. I want to have muscles again, while not sacrificing too much of my monitor-time.

I came from Lifehacker.com, myself, and also BoingBoing (at least it was one of those sites). ;)
This site couldn't have come at a better time for me, as I just joined a gym with my husband, and we're working on motivating each other through all of that weight-training and cardio.
I already despise the elliptical machine. ;)

I like to play violin, quilt, and teach piano. I have 2 kids. Hope to lose weight to relieve joints and lower cholesterol. I'm the leader of our local TOPS group (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) and can't wait to see the weight go!!!

Hi! I just joined up and I'm letting everyone with email addys in my local weight loss group know about traineo! I love the accountability aspect which is a big part of our group. I really excited to get the weight off...with me it's become more of a health issue than appearance. I see that with a lot of women now.

I just joined the site today... I was browsing the del.icio.us tag diet, actually, trying to find a site I lost a while ago, and this popped up on a bunch of people's recently tagged links so I thought I would check it out. :)

I'm a network engineer in the Great Northwest and I co-host a podcast at geekfit.com with Jason Tucker (abstrakone).
When I started this journey in March 2005 I weighed around 400 lbs.
The thing that jarred me into motion was a picture my wife had taken on Christmas morning 2004. I was sitting in a low armchair wearing my usual outfit: sweats and a t-shirt. It went from belly to legs to feet -- no knees!! I said, "oh hell no."
I got myself a gym membership and started out swimming every morning. That progressed to the treadmill and finally to where I am today which is riding a bike 7-10 miles at a clip and playing DDR at the local bowling alley a few days a week.
It feels so good I think I'm going to keep going. ;)

I've been out of loop on working out for about 2 years. I used to be a fitness fanatic and now that i've gained about 15 lbs, I'm ready to take it off. I'm currently taking more of a cardio approach, rather than muscle building. Road running is my favorite, I hate treadmills. My goal is to run a 5k in under 23 minutes (I'm at 26 right now, down from 30 when i started a month ago).

At least the matches would know they're on the same page on the health tip, right? It could be worse.

Until January 2006, I am the definitive geek / couch potato. I was overweight and felt sluggish. Now diet exercise is part of my life and I love it!
I'd love to motivate and be motivated to continue this new me. Thanks for you help and support!

Found this on digg.com.
I have tried other sites like fitday or thedailyplate, but they take too long to punch in stuff. I like this site because it doesn't take up a lot of time to enter, concise, and good use of graphs.
I value my privacy so I never post real pics or names on forums, but that doesn't mean I don't like to add a cool pic to my profile, heh.

Hi, I'm an American who has been living in Thailand for a year. While one would think that living in Thailand is a dieters paradise the food stalls are full of unhealthy things like fried chicken, yummy sweets involving coconut milk, bananas and deep fryer, and McDonalds will deliver to my door.

I like it thus far.

Hi I'm Shannon. I'm a 17 year-old student in high-school. I used to be very involved in rowing but quit in May of this year. I'm looking to loose the weight I gained plus a little more and become more fit. :)
I hope to start rowing again during the next Spring season and I'd love to be in tip-top shape. I run almost everyday and lift light weights about every other day. I'm also an admitted chocoholic and I have no desire to be cured just learn to have more controle. ;)
