You can bet that if I am not actually at the gym I certainly am thinking about it.

As a counselor I am always telling my clients about the link between exercise and mood disorders such as depression. Sometimes it really is that easy! I'm glad to hear you have found a way to help yourself feel better both physically and emotionally. Keep up the great work!
P.S. - Sleep is also an important variable in this process, so make sure you are getting your 8 hours!

Dave -- I'm glad you're feeling better!
I went through a similar funk, starting, well, just about this time last year. Several months ago something clicked -- I finally realized what a sorry state I was in. I started taking walks at lunch. Then I started eating better. Then regular cardio. Then lifting weights ...
It's funny how easy it was when the motivation changed from "must lose weight" to "must not let myself ever feel that way again."

I am 39 years old. My goal is to be in the best shape of my life in my 40s, in terms of endurance and strength.
I like weight training, cardio cross training (from treadmill running to kickboxing) and above all Yoga.
I like music, movies, reading fiction, travel, exercise. I am vegetarian because I love animals. I love cats best.

I'm a 24 yr old Communication Disorders graduate student in south Georgia. I am currently living with my boyfriend and my wacky dog. In my free time, enjoy playing on the internet, spending time with my fellow Comd girlfriends, chitchatting with my wonderful mom, spending quiet time with my boyfriend, watching bad cinema, scifi, and court drama (court tv, law and order, etc), quiet meditation, reading self-help books, and spending time outside (NOT sports).
When it comes to exercise, I am not a huge fan. I find I feel better when I DO it, but getting the point of doing it habitually, well... I have not gotten there yet! And when it comes to food, I LOVE it. I can count the food I don't like on one hand. Food is an addiction I am trying to control (sense 3rd grade).

I suffer from what they are now calling (it has changed a few times) "severe mood disorder"and exercise and good sleep is a MUST! I am able to live without exercise, but it makes things much more difficult. I am cranky and very reactive (OVER reactive) to small things.
So, to all who have any form of depression... WORKOUT! Even if it's a short walk or a 20 minute trip to the gym, do it!
And congrats to Dave for working through the dark waters! I am in the process of fighting mine.

I'm a writer and a web developer. Neither is a very active occupation, so I'm trying now to make up for a lifetime of sedentary activity and overeating. I'm not tracking calories since I'm following the Weight Watchers Core Program, where calories are not tracked.

@Dave,
Yeah, it's amazing how regular exercise can help with your mood. I've been dealing with depression for years now, and it's always better when I'm working out regularly. Of course, the trick is figuring out how to motivate myself to exercise when I'm really down in the dumps.

Funny, a guy a the gym was talking about his chemotherapy and how he felt better after working out. Same thing, gotta get up and go when you don't feel like it.
