I'm reaching to be a runner. I enjoy running now that I have shoes that don't kill my legs. All I need is to watch my diet and wake up early to run, and I'm confident that my goals will be met soon.

Gotta love Florida...
So yea, my 5k is on Saturday, and my plan this week was Tues- run 5k and Thurs- run 5k. Then rest up till the 23rd.
Unfortunately, Madamme Fay (the hurricane) decided to drop on us and put my running route out of commission yesterday and today. I ended up running tonight around the indoor track at my college gym (25 laps = 5k). Incredibly repetitive and boring.
So now my plan is to rest up till Saturday and hope for the best. I did well tonight, but that was on a flat track in cool air conditioning. The 5k is outdoors and is at 8am.
What have you all done when the weather didn't quite agree with your workout plans?

This isn't the exact same thing, but my health put a dampener on my training the week and a half before my last tri. I had to just rest a lot and hope that all the other hard weeks of work would still get me through the tri. They did. I didn't have the best time but I still finished.
In your case, however, if you really cannot run outside, I would definitely recommend running inside. I know it is boring and tedious and not the same, but it is something and it will help keep you ready for the race.

i am having a similar problem with weather though not severe as a hurricane.
we are having rare hot weather here soometimes going up in the mid 30'c with humidity. when you are from northern canada where we have winter 8 months out of the year and temperature's drop to -55c some weeks during winter having this kind of heat is hard on our bodies.we aren't used to it.
then add on when i get overheated i get dizzy and pass out. right now all i gotta do is sit here and that happens so actually working out is impossible for me. what i try to do is put a workout in my housework.
instead of picking alot of items up at the same time to take elsewhere i take one at a time meaning i have to go back repeatedly for the next. it gives me bit of a walk then especially if there are alot of items i have to move. not much but it's something.
i wish i could do the same thing with the outside stuff but discovered when i spend too much time in the sun i break out in red spots and blisters all over my body. there is one on my arm(exposed to the sun) that looked like i held a ciggarette to it for a second or two. freaked me out. otherwise i would do the same thing with the outside work too.
good luck on your 5k!!!

Don't know. i think it's the sun itself because it happens everytime i am outside and in strong sunshine.whatever is exposed get's red and blisters after an hour what isn't covered and around the blisters i get little red dots.

Ive heard of people actually being allergic to the sun light, something with their skin. Maybe you have a mild case?

Joanne sounds like you have the same kind of skin as my son and I...I once had to sleep in bathtub of water because of the blisters on my back. Neutrogena now has a sunscreen with an SPF over 55 that works very well. Also try a white mens dress shirt, it'll reflect the suns rays and keep your skin from being directly exposed.

Sorry to hear about your skin. I hope you can find a good solution that works for you.
As far as hurricanes are concerned, I've definitely seen runners in the rain when there is no lightning. Is it worth the risk to keep on that running schedule outside?

I have no problems with running outside in the rain as long as the chance of slipping/falling is pretty negligible. As in, don't run on cement/concrete, run on a grass/trail, you'll get better traction.

It has not stopped raining ALL SUMMER here - boo hoo - so sometimes I have to run in the rain if I want to get out at all. Also I am training for a marathon in October - and October in Ireland is almost guaranteed rain so it will probably be raining on the day and I had better get used to it now!!! No hurricanes though - that might keep me indoors!
How did the 5k go?

The 5k went great! Thanks for asking. I shaved off 2 min from my last 5k, so I'm in a pretty good mood as you would imagine.
I'm going to start training right away for the next race so I don't lose step. I haven't signed up for another one, but it's soon to come I'm sure.
