I washed them every other day. It was nice to not have lots of flyaway hair when I worked out. when I cut them off I really missed them, but I had to take a teaching job and needed a more square hairdo. It didn't affect the thickness of my hair at all. Oh, I had a friend separate the matted hair into sections and kind of twist and tangle it into dreads for me. I've also hear...

Reply by Rob M.

I never comb my hair or use conditioner and I certainly don't have dreads, lol.

What Patrick said sounds about right...

Reply by Patrick Boyle

Quoting: kat777but the only way ive heard of to put them in the oldschool way, is just wash your hair with waterand shampoo, no conditioner, and dont brush it.

You can do it that way, but you need a residue-free shampoo and you can't play with your hair or take the knots out. And you need to wash your hair less frequently (twice a week).

Then it'll lock up in about a year. I'm pretty sure that is how I'll do it...

Reply by Stand Up Bean

Quoting: kat777but the only way ive heard of to put them in the oldschool way, is just wash your hair with waterand shampoo, no conditioner, and dont brush it.
That's pretty much how I've existed since the tenth grade (about ten years), and I occasionally get a few curls stuck together, but that's also after I tease them a bit and sleep on it that way....

Reply by Rob M.

Didn't Bob Marley have like 100 types of bugs in his hair when he died, lol.

Reply by kat777 slimmer

dreds = awsome

They can be ugly, like any hairstyle, but they can be attractive, too.

I absolutely loathe them on women though. Ew.

Good luck.

Reply by Patrick Boyle

Quoting: wayofthewarrior
The only thing I'd be concerned about is that they smell don't they? and your hair is literally rotting until the only way to remove them is to cut them off. Or am I just being ignorant?

It isn't ignorance. It is just you relaying bad press. Most people think that until they go out of their way to read into it. Dreads get washed like everyone elses hair...

Reply by Stand Up Bean

My brother washed his dreadlocks, but when he finally shaved them, he got pretty depressed because he found out that he had been balding. The hair was still just stuck. There probably are spots where the roots weren't getting washed, and that's not a good thing.

I'll stick with my rat-tail. MAYBE I'll grow a mustache, but usually I can only keep those for about 25 hours at most....

Reply by Dean Grimshawe

Not my thing, but if you really wnat to do it then it is up to you.

I've never considered them as very clean though I have to admit they can look pretty cool on the right person.

But then, I can't talk as not many people think putting a Prince Albert in is a good idea....

Reply by Patrick Boyle

Anyone have them? Want them? What method did you use?

I've been reading up on them because I really want them. Most people ask me what my reason is for wanting them and I can't really answer them. I just have this inner draw towards them.

I had the same feeling when I got my ear pierced.

But yes. I've gone dreadlock crazy lately. I'm pretty sure I know everything there is to know about putting them in (in a variety of ways). And I can't wait to do it.

What do...
