About 13 months ago, I joined Traineo and had some great success. See the “Past Goals” at the bottom…
After starting a new job, and going through some stressful stuff in my life, I lost steam and stopped going to the gym for about month, minus a little running and the occasional round of push-ups and sit-ups. After a couple attempts I finally got back on track and was doing well, even in the wake of the birth of my first child.
But then I went back to work, got a little sick, and got out of my routine. I knew I would be leaving home for a couple of months for training, so I decided to let the gym go to maximize the time I had left with my wife and son.
Now I'm away, and will try to squeeze working out into my tight training schedule. Wish me luck!
Phase 2.5 (ACCOMPLISHED!): Get back into a routine and accomplish 3 - 4 work outs a week in July. (Maintain from 17 July 08 - 15 Aug 08)
Phase 2.8 (ACCOMPLISHED!): Get back to the level of strength I had at the peak of phase 2 and add leg work outs to the mix, I’ve been neglecting my legs. (Target date 15 Sept 08)

Many of you "know" Dave as a traineo regular. A few of us actually know Dave in the real world too. You may have noticed he has not graced the pages of this site in about a week or so. That's because he had an unfortunate automobile accident about a week ago.
Dave suffered some significant injuries, but he is receiving medical care and is working through the situation, trying to remain positive. He does not have internet access from his hospital bed, but we're working on that.
I asked him if it would be OK for me to post a little update on his where abouts and condition, and he said go for it.
If you would like to leave some words of encouragement here for Dave, I will occasionally print out your responses and bring them to him in the hospital until we can get him some wi-fi access. He has a long recovery ahead of him, but he's keeping his sense of humor, and really wants to get back on his feet and back on the road to a happy and healthy life.
Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers in the weeks and months to come.
Thanks!

I'm a plant enthusiast dedicated to eating whole, fresh foods. As for exercise, I regularly participate in: swimming, water aerobics, yoga, the elliptical machine, the stair stepper, running, and weight training. I try to switch up my routine a lot so that I don't get bored. My biggest obstacle to weight loss is eating when I'm lonely or sad, but I've started keeping a list on my fridge of other things I can do to occupy my time. So far it's really been helping!
Aside from health and fitness, I was married in December 2007 and am enjoying being married and decorating our apartment. I am currently finishing my last semester as an undergraduate, and hope to begin an English MA program Fall 2009. I love reading, quilting, cooking, hiking, swimming, decorating, gardening, and striving to protect the environment. I'm also really pleased that Barack Obama is going to be our next president.
Let me know if you need a motivator! Good luck in your health and fitness efforts!

Oh goodness! Definitely tell him he is in our prayers. How bad are his injuries? When do the doctors anticipate that he'll be well again?

His injuries are significant, but the Docs are still trying to figure things out. He will probably have a lengthy recovery.

I love to eat. Carbs is my weakness link that I always lose control in front of it.
I started running for fitness in 2007. Ever since I finished the 1st marathon (San Diego RnR 2007), I am addicted to running.
I started traineoing in Nov 2007. I have reached my goal weight in Jun 08 already. But, now, I don't care much about my weight. I care about it only if it affects my running performance.

That is terrible news and something that I was not expecting to read when I flicked through the forums today.
Dave is a huge contributor to this community and his absence does leave a void, all be it only a temporary one till he comes back to grace the forums again.
My thoughts and prayers are with Dave, and if I can assist him in any way with his recovery I will certainly make myself available.
Hope to hear from the great man again soon, but until then make sure he knows he is in our thoughts.

Let us know if there is anything really specific (any surgeries for example) that you would like us to pray for. So sorry to hear about this. I really hope you have a very speedy recovery. Good luck!

Hey Dave, look on the bright side: with the crappy hospital food, you're bound to lose those last few lbs, HA!! Hopefully you've got some buddies that will sneak in a beer for you when you're feeling up to it. (And some tasty protein - don't waste away!)

I've been interested in losing weight and gaining muscle here at traineo since late 2007. Its not until mid 2008 that i've actually started my training routine 5 days a week. Trying to get to under 19% body fat.

I used to be reasonably fit and slim when I was in college, but have been gaining weight steadily ever since I got married.
I do next to no exercise apart from playing occasional ping pong with my co-workers.
But this is all going to change!! My goal is to train, train and train and get back to my true old self (i.e, ~175lbs).

I'm basically trying to get in shape and be healthy...
diaryofthefatman.blogspot.com
I like participating in sports but I want to be more competitive. Also I'm with Kevin Spacey from American Beauty - good reason :)
I'm looking to lose about a hundred lbs in the course of a year, and basically to just consistently get better. And I love comments and messages, so keep 'em coming!
I talk about goal setting a lot, how about I actually set some?
Well it's time to revisit goals... I didn't do too well with my end of year plans, but learned some things and changed my plans up a bit as I went along. During the 5-7 weeks of the year, I was able to put on about 8-10lbs of muscle, and stay at the same actual weight. The plan is to start the Strong Lifts 5X5 program to supplement the Couch to 5K program, and that should last the next 8-12 weeks.
I'm updating goals as well. Lowering cholesterol remains a goal, and I'll find out about that at the end of August.
Been bouncing around a bit, but getting a little stricter again and will monitor that over the next 3-4 weeks. I feel poised to really lose some weight again, so I'm looking forward to the healthy eating and additional exercise.

Thanks all, it's great to see the encouragement!!
After the 6th surgery on my left leg last night, it as finally started to show some positive changes. It looks as though they have salvaged everything that they can, and I will hopefully be meeting with a plastic surgeon by Monday to discuss how the wounds will be closed and what I might have left for muscle. Because of being ejected from my car, I've lost a huge amount of muscle from both sides of my lower leg as well as the front of my quad near the knee (so much that if I were put back together now, I would lack the muscle to lift my foot as well as the muscle they would generally use to replace that).
The plan is on Monday to close up the draining wounds and put back together what they can. Then, later in the week I need to get opened up again to have my ankle set (and likely re-fractured, it's been over 2 weeks). Once my ankle heals, which I'm told is about 7 weeks, I can start working on my knee. My MCL and ACL were totally trashed, and something happened to the meniscus, but I'm not clear on those details yet.
So, I think I might lose the million lb marathon
Joking aside, I am pretty terrified and frustrated. This is a long road ahead and it's not just a little intimidating.

I started on a serious weight loss program in September of 2006. My starting weight was 242 pounds. I'm 5' 5" tall. My current weight is 180 pounds. I was determined to do it on my own - no paid programs, pills, etc. My goal is to be 165. As of 12/1/07 - I've met my goal of 165!. Now for 2008 I'm going to focus on maintaining. Any additional lost pounds will be a bonus.
New Year and I've decided to set a new goal. I'm striving for 145 pounds. 1/30/08 - down 5 pounds....

I've always been bigger. Maybe not classified as being fat because I carry it pretty well. But, well, I'm fat. There's no fooling myself. In January, months of hard work paid off as my wife got pregnant with what will be our first child. I had been exercising a bit until that point, but I decided to ramp it up a notch and get my weight to where I can be healthy and be around a long time for my wife and kid.
I've been known to drop 40-50 pounds in 5 months or so on a few occasions, only to slowly gain that weight back over a couple years. This time is different. I know everybody says that and usually that statement doesn't come to fruit, but I've got that incentive...becoming a daddy.
Got a blog rolling- rokandroll.blogspot.com
I post on it a few times a week. Mostly fitness stuff. I try to be somewhat humorous. Check it out if you're REALLY bored.

Success is the good fortune that comes from aspiration, desperation, perspiration, dedication, and inspiration!
Workin on Being healthy and eating better. Since my junior year of high school, I packed on probably 85 lbs. My goal is to lose that 85 lbs and then some. I'm striving for 145-155 lbs. I think that with my height etc...that'd be a good weight for me. I'm working on getting there and I've never felt more motivated. I have friends and family helping me along the way as well as co-workers and now TRAINEO. This is the first time in my life that I've actually been EXCITED about getting up, getting moving and Leaving this fat butt behind. I've set myself smaller goals along the way and I'm trying my hardest to reach them. But if I fall a step behind... I WON'T give up!!! NOT THIS TIME...

I hope this verse doesn't sound too cliche, but it is one that I hold onto in difficult times. Saturday morning on the last 8 minutes of my run my Ipod ran out of power and all I could hear was myself panting like I was about to die. Then you popped into my head. Your situation made me realize how easy things are for me and how it is important not to waste time and how everyday is a gift.
Keep setting goals and moving towards them. However small the goal and however slow the progress.
Thanks for helping me.
