I have started two new blogs, one to follow my running and a Quest to a Marathon at blog.262quest.com and one to follow my weight loss at blog.2big.org, please check them out.
I am an IT professional / Developer which means I sit in front of a computer most of the day. This means very little exercise and plenty of time to eat.
I decided at the first of the year that I was going to lose weight. I started by changing my eating habits and started walking.
I did so for about a month and then added some weight lifting and started to run a little bit.
I have so far lost 29 lbs in just over 3 months and would like to lose just over another 50 lbs by the end of the year.
I have started running quite a bit more and am training to run the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta on July 4th (10k)
I need all the encouragement I can get because to do this I am getting up every morning during the week at 4:30 to go running. With a wife and kids this is really the only time that I can consistently do what I need to do.
I am driven, but at times get a bit discouraged because I don't have anybody to work out with or run with.
All in All, I know I can do it, I just have to remember that when I don't do so well, it is in the past and what matters is going forward.

hi tim-glad to see you !! i definitely think technology has an influence whether it be in it or not. it especially has an influence on kids. everything is electronic-computers, cell phones. you dont even have to get up anymore to open your own blinds if you dont want. there are remote controls for everything and drive thrus for everything. we need to take responsibility into our own hands and account for our individual lifestyles and parents pay a big role as well. they need to be role models and set up a healthy environment for their children.

Quoting: jenngetfit it especially has an influence on kids
That is so true - more parents need to tell their kids to go outside!
Quoting: Cynthesis So does that mean we can blame you for being fat?
I am happy to take the blame Now if I could only come up with something that would make someone want to use it instead of exercising.... most people would rather exercise than use anything I have developed

Not sure why NONE of my pictures will upload! I am having a hard time losing the last 15 lbs after having a baby 2 years ago. I want to be back to my weight when I met my husband 7 years ago. We are going on a cruise June 7th and would LOVE to be at 128lbs. I am a stay at home mom and love it. When my daughter is taking her nap, I will play on the Wii. I am usually running around the house cleaning, cooking, playing, etc. For me to lose weight, I am not allowing myself to have a drink during the week (wish me luck).

Easy access to technology and the lack of parenting are contributing factors to our population being obese. I have to agree wtih Stand Up Bean.
Lazy people - those are the fat people. Some people cannot help it, but when I see a large person chowing down on unhealthy foods and drink...I have NO sympathy.
Technology is also a reason why we have an easier life. Instead of staying on the couch to play a simple game, while eating bon bons and drinking coke...get up and go for a walk!
Now, to play devil advocate...I will be afraid to let me child go outside without someone with her due to all the BS that is out there by human fault. I am also afraid a coyote will attack her (we have at least 5 on the property and they have taken down full grown deer.) So, if it comes to me having to get cooking and cleaning done first...I will go out with her when I can. I will let her play in the drive way, porches, and in the house. We will play Wii tennis (she mimicks what I do.).
There is ALWAYS a solution. I hate it when people contantly make excuses. If all they are going to do is b*tch and moan, I'd rather not be around them. Whaa....get over it!

Stand Up Bean - I do understand, however my article is just basically saying that there are known contributing factors and we have to realize that and counteract them.
Jillian - I am not sure how to take your post - if it is a slam on me or not. Not sure if you are talking about me when you say:

Oh no! Not at all! I am so sorry if it was perceived that way. That was not my intention. I was actually speaking in general. Somone who just always complains and does nothing about it...and when advice is given it gets shut down for one reason or another. Time, please accept my apologies. I did not mean any harm. (I was actually thinking of a few females I know that do this and it drives me nuts!)

No, that is fine. I was just unsure. I know many people like you are talking about as well. I did get to where I was previously by making excuses, but I wouldn't have made it to where I am today if I were still making those excuses.
The article mainly hit home for me because I am in the technology field, and when I did get into the field my problem got worse. We do tend to make excuses, and for many years I used the desk job as an excuse. What the gist of the article was was to say that we need to recognize these situations and do everything we can to counteract it.
Thanks -

I have the Wii and I use it as a workout. The boxing really kicks my behind, but each day I do better and can go longer. That is an awesome piece of technology. I am unable to get on the treadmill b/c the last time my daughter tried to get on it, too. Plus the Wii is more fun. If I take my daughter out with me, she gets bored easily and wants to do other things. So, she loves to join me in playing on the Wii. She thinks she is playing while she holds one of the remotes. I love seeing her swing like she is playing tennis. (She is 2 years old.) Since I am a stay at home mother, I am able to work out more. I had such a hard time when I was teaching.
