My goal is to complete the Dublin Marathon in October. Also to stick consistently to a healthy diet and thereby lower my BF%, overall weight and cholesterol.

I just found out that my cholesterol is down... woohoo!!! From 9.2 down to 7.3... so it is still quite high I know (or still VERY high as my doctor said) but I am happy with that progress!
My high levels are inherited rather than due to diet so I didn't think I'd ever be able to get it down naturally... but now there is hope The doc said I can keep on with what I have been doing for another two months and then get it tested again - hopefully it will be down even more by then!
By the way I know there are lots of people from the US on here and you use different figures over there... I think you multiply by 39 to convert it... So that would be 359 down to 284.
Anyway just thought I'd share

My motivation disappeared for awhile, and quite frankly it's not all that visible at the moment. Sometimes ya just gotta do it anyway, though. I tried setting small attainable goals for myself, but then I got lazy and the "next week syndrome" kicked in. Now I'm giving myself something HARD to do...lose 11 pounds in 30 days. If ONLY I had Bob or Jillian here to kick my butt!!!!

That's great news Ms. M! Did you go on any medications or are you just watching diet and adding excercise? I'm curious b/c my cholesterol is down from 242 to 227 and I'm hoping to bring it down further so I don't have to start medicating the problem at 31 years of age. I'm tickled for you! Hopefully you can continue to bring your levels down the natural way in spite of the hereditary factor!

Hi there Angie... No I didn't take any medications thankfully, not yet anyway! I know what you mean about not wanting to start medication, I am only 27 now and I think once you start you will be on it for life! eek...
I started off with watching diet and exercise and taking those Benecol yoghurt drinks... but that didn't work - my cholesterol actually went up over that period of time! In hindsight I could've been stricter with myself...
Then my doctor recommended taking a Soy Lecithin supplement and Omega 3 oils. I had already been taking Omega 3 but apparently you need to take at least 1g a day for it to have an effect.
So for the last month that is what I've doing - plus the diet and exercise - and it seemed to work
Good luck with yours and well done on getting it down somewhat already

I used to hate all forms of exercise, now I bike all over the place, jog from time to time, attend Jazzercise class, take the stairs whenever possible, do Turbo Jam, and I'm doing some free weight exercises.
Life is good - and I plan to keep it this way!

Great job, Ms. M!
My cholesterol went down from 197 to 146 last year, so I know how exciting it is to see a drop like that! Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the tips! I'm awful at taking pills, but I'd much rather take vitamins and supplements than cholesterol medicine. It's great to hear that you did all of that naturally. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!
