I don't always record my stats in here, but I work out about 5 days a week an hour or more each day. I start with strength training, then do about 30-60 minutes of cardio. I vary the cardio between the treadmill and the elliptical machine. Now, here is the dilemma:

I have been working out for almost 2 months and I haven't lost weight. In fact, I've gained weight.

Nothing is fitting any loser, and I am starting to get really discouraged. The only change I can see on my body is in my arms and calves, which weren't that bad anyway.

I eat 5-6 times a day:

i.e,
1/2 a bagel (multigrain) with 1 tbsp peanut butter
snack, string cheese
can of tuna fish with light mayo and mustard
snack fruit (apple, pear, orange)
snack yogurt
meatloaf, with egg and oatmeal (mixed in)
steamed veggies
and throughout I have 100 oz of water.

I know that it takes a bit, but I can only eat so many pieces of string cheese, apples and oranges.

My boyfriend says I look better, but I have looked better and I am doing this for me. I guess I expected to have lost at least 10 lbs by now and not have gained 3...which was 5, but that 5 doesn't want to go away!

Does anyone have any advice.

Have you had your BF measured? I was getting discouraged after a month because I had hadn't lost as much weight as I wanted but it turned out that I had gained 3.5 lbs of muscle so that is something to take into consideration. Also, how many calories are you eating? How old are you? How tall are you? How much do you weigh? What is your HR while on the doing cardio?

Btw, we've had a lot of these kinds of posts lately. Does anybody have a link to that post that somebody wrote up several months back with a sort of generic "This is why you might not be losing weight" kind of thing? I looked for it but couldn't find it. Somebody post a link if you find it please!

Keep at it.. It could def. just be muscle building up.. Maybe also try switching up your diet? Looks like a lot of dairy and carbs! But.. Maybe I'm just biased ;)

Measure exactly how many calories are in all that you are eating. Sometimes some things can trick you in to thinking it's low calorie when in fact it's not. Also watch the sodium levels. Canned things like Tuna typically have to have high levels of sodium to keep them preserved, which can lead to other issues besides weight loss, such as increasing blood pressure. If you do find your bp is higher than it should be (check at a walmart or something) a modification of the dash diet is a good idea... and that can be modified to work with weight loss too.... For instance, maybe go with fresh fish that's cooked instead of canned tuna, etc. I'm not sure on fat contents or calorie content in peanut butter and bagel, but knowing that might help. Some people that used to be on Atkins type diets hate breads of any kind. I'm not sure that's a good or safe idea, but they do say that the extra carbs in bread products like bagels can have some effects on weight loss. I don't know about all that since you need to eat a balanced meal. Biggest thing is to make the calories going in be less than the calories you are burning in workouts and stuff. You might just be gaining muscle weight since you are doing so much weight training? Maybe alter that to be more cardio like... for instance keep doing the weight bench but lower the weights that you are putting on there and increase the reps.

Hey Brittany,

You're in the right place here in the forums and between all of us we'll be able to get you back on track.

What was your routine before the last 2 months?
