I had a question, for some reason I've had a lot of trouble getting below 140 everytime I diet. It's like no matter what I do I just can't get below 140 pounds. I'm 145 right now and 28 inch waist, broad shoulders, and 39 inch hips. Could the weight have to do with my build or do I just need to cut down more?

Any chance of finding out your body fat %?

Also how tall are you?

Some people have those 'break' points where dropping below is really tuff. For me 180 when I was trying to loose weight was tuff. Getting to 177 and staying at it took ALOT of work.

Its like me trying to 'gain' muscle vs fat weight. 195 is my tuff break point. Anything over that seems like alot of fat..

I'm almost 5'6". Yeah it's just like I get to the point were no matter how much I work out or if I eat low calories, low carb, I can't get past that point. Any ideas would be great to hear because my goal is 130.

WOW Shannon! It feels like you just described me.

I'm 5'7, 145lbs with broad shoulders and 28 inch waist. I too can't seem to get lower than 145.

I try not to focus on weight now...I take meassurments around my waist, arms and thigh.

Good luck!

let me in on the secret when you find out=)

Ladies, your measurements and scale numbers sound LOVELY. Is there a possibility that you're perhaps not seeing what's actually in the mirrors?

Scales, like snakes with theirs, can be a slippery lot.

You sound exactly the same as me!!! I'm 5'6" too, 39" hips but 30" waist so a little bit bigger around the middle - that's my main problem really!

To be honest I would never have described myself as a 'big' build so if you have similar measurements I can't imagine how you would be that much bigger - you sound lovely to me too!!!

Having said that I was stuck at 146 for AGES... but I am not too bothered about that anymore - my main goal is to get rid of my 'squidgy' bits around my middle. If you are toned etc. I wouldn't worry what the scales says!

I stopped weighing myself about a month ago - I used to weigh myself every day and got so fed up going down a pound one day and up a pound the next - it's pointless! Now I just measure myself once in a while - much happier now Although I'd be even happier if the inches started falling off Any day now surely.....

I don't own a scale for that reason. I hate seeing everything that is there. I go visit relatives that have a scale about once a month...walk in weigh myself and then go on with the visit. She has a really cool scale too...that keeps me motivated...as I watch my weight go up...I am working harder now though!!! I pay more attention to how my clothes fit than my weight, some reason I have always weighed more than what my actual size is, crazy!! That mid section is a complete nightmare!!!

I would definitely recommend putting the focus on body fat %. It's a much more reliable measurement of your fitness/health level.

I think you guys are right to toss out your scales, I hate mine, it's driving me nuttie! Though how accuret do you guys think the body fat messurement on the scale could be? I've noticed that is changes easily.

It's been said already in this thread and countless times on these forums, but it's important enough for endless repitition: focus on body fat % and not weight!

There is far too much emphasis on weight when it comes to being healthy; the honest truth is that focusing too much on losing weight can be detrimental to your mental AND physical health, for example: imagine a guy that is at 200lbs and decides that he wants to go down to 175lbs, losing 25lbs doesn't seem like that big a deal right? Now let's factor in his body fat %, call it 15%. That would give him a lean body mass of 170lbs; in order to get down to 175lbs, he'd have to sacrifice muscle, because it's actually unhealthy and unlikely to be at 2.5% body fat... even being at 10% is pretty low. At 175lbs 10% BF would put him at 157.5lbs of lean mass, he'd have to sacrifice around 12.5 or more pounds of GOOD weight to get that scale to drop to where he wants it... half of his weight loss would be muscle. A more realistic and attainable goal would be to burn only fat and get his body fat % down to 10-12%, which would put him around 189-193lbs, but he'll be healthier, look better and probably be stronger than he would have been at 175lbs.

Learn your body fat % and track that. If anything, use it in conjunction with your weight to figure out what your goals should be.

Not very accurate at all. I get mine measured with calipers at the gym.
