Since when did something with 41 g of carbs only have 30 calories? What the hell?! That corn should 164 calories from carbs alone!!

http://www.thedailyplate.com/nutrition-calories/fo od/generic/corn

1/4 cup of corn having 41 g of carbs is highly questionable anyway, the calories are all wrong... looking around I see hardly any of the nutrition facts on the website make any sense. I joined the site yesterday, but I'm utterly disappointed in the accuracy.

this is absolutely insane:

Est. Percent of Calories from:
Fat 36.0% Carbs 549.3%
Protein 70.5%

add up those percentages

stick to fitday.com!

Yes, the nutrition facts for the corn seem pretty screwed up. I like caloriesperhour.com better but it doesn't have the daily log, I don't think.

thedailyplate is a great resource, but I usually end up using the average if there are several calorie entries for a particular food.

haha, I didn't even catch that the first time around! Yeah, the site is a complete waste. Why bother tracking the food if the nutrition information is NOWHERE NEAR accurate? It'd be more accurate if a monkey guessed the calories for you.

That's crazy!

I just use diet power to log but it's always giving me an "d" or "f" grade for my diet because I eat 1g/LBM of protein. Even if I eat 12 cups of veggies, LOL!

There was a monkey that picked random stocks a few years ago that did better than the Wall Street Analysts, hahaha.

I enter my own foods into the data base at the daily plate now, partly because most of the French brands aren't on it and partly for the reasons sited here.

User created menu items are supposed to be staff-reviewed but are made available to all users in the interim. This can create data reliability problems.

However, the same may be true for FitDay, which also allows user edited content. Not sure, since I haven't used it as much. I do notice some harmless typos, like How many calories in Flower [sic]?

The Carb % is off because it's calculated roughly this way: (Carbs g * 4) / Total Calories. Since the Total Carbs is way too small (should be about 200 Calories) then this percentage is ridiculously high.

That's a good catch though. These sites should have a "Flag for inaccuracy." link to allow members to police the data and bring it to a staffer's attention for re-review. Shame on the staffers for missing that though!

A reputable source is the USDA Nutrient Data Lab's database.

In fact, their database is downloadable for free and can be the starting point of reputable calorie counting sites.

Quick! Someone tell Google that they have to index the knowledge of the nutritional content of food worldwide. Several billion dollars later, we'll have the problem licked!

Personally, I like calorie-count.com much better. And it's like Daily Plate in that you can sign up for a free acct & log all the food you eat each day, etc., etc....by the by, here's their breakdown on corn (1 c serving).

Thanks Lilly! That's what I was expecting to see with corn.

Fitday looks good! But I was just after starting with Daily Plate... Did notice major problems with some of the values but at least you can enter in the exact cals if you know them!

One of the things I like about my fitness software (Crosstrainer 6) is that I can download and utilize the USDA database.

I have noticed that the daily plate also will list foods more than once on their site if you do a search on some foods. I have been double checking the lables first before choosing the right one. They need to employ more food moderators over there as well. I have submitted a few foods there and they have yet to be approved (The foods are listed though for everyone to view before approval as well).
