So today I decided, (due to our dinner party guests cancelling and my having some unexpected time on my hands), to hoof it down to the local, (well, in the next town a few km's away), mega sports store where I purchased my first very own BARBELL!

I can't WAIT to hit my next calisthenics squat-session with this lil baby on my traps.

And DAMN, was I sweatin' after hoofing back home with said bar on my shoulders, (and sometimes curled slightly near my hips to mix up the owies ; ).

I was surprised when a drop landed with authority on my chest--I actually thought it was raining for a sec and then realized that I was the one raining. That's what I get for wearing a damn woolen pauncho on an official Spring day...

Good times, think I'll log that workout on my chart here...

Onwards and UPWARDS, my fellow and fellette squatists!

Congratulations on picking up your very own barbell! I recently picked one up myself, its so nice having it readily accessible. Good luck!

As much as I try not to endorse companies in my posts I found a great set for a very reasonable price (about $160 for 300 pounds + bar, Olympic style) at modells. You can also get great prices online, just keep in mind shipping will almost equal the retail price of a heavy set of weights or piece of workout equipment.

Well, I've already got an assortment of free weights and dumbells, so eventual adding to the new bar, (which was 22 Euro's, btw), shant be a problem, and I'm sure I'll be working the weight of it alone for a spell anyway. Even got some lifting gloves in la cave, so I'm loaded fer bear!

You walked home with an olympic bar? I hope you walked with it on your back, squat style. It conjures a pretty awesome image.

Yes, that's where it was resting for a good 75% of the trek, though as noted, I switched it up a bit with it in a slight curl position near my womanly, thankfully, weight-bearing hips.

I don't think it's of "Olympic" length though, about a meter and a half long, if memory serves, it's already in its sacred place in the basement, poised for the next squat session.

Tonight, I'm celebrating with a gadamned well-earned Napolitano style pizza and some blessed Chianti Classico in Paris with hub--and dammit!

But of course, I'm starting already here with a glass of lovely bordeaux, as it's apperitivo time and that's what we Euro's DO.

chin-chin!

Sweet! You conjure quite the image, hoofing it with a barbell.

Now that you have it, you'll find yourself wanting a rack next. That's what I'm wanting now, anyway. I don't know that you'll be able to carry that home on your shoulders though.

Have fun with your new toy!

Woohoo! Congrats, Minu!

I absolutely LOVE squats, so I understand your anticipation & excitement.

Have fun & enjoy that bordeaux! (I'm so utterly jealous right now...not a drop of vino in the house!)

Cheers, Lilly.

FTR, I weighed the thing and it's 15 lbs, and at only 47 inches its (I'm guessing), about the same length as an EZ Bar, though straight.

I'm sure it'll be challenging o' plenty for my maiden voyage into weighted-squat-land.
