Hey everyone...my current weight is 242lbs (110kg) and I would realllyyyy LOVE to be able to lose 22lbs (10kg) in 4 weeks....IS THIS POSSIBLE????

My Mother is coming to visit me from the other side of the country..I haven't seen her in 2 years..since my daughter was 5 weeks old - she is now 2!!!!! So as you can imagine, I am really anticipating her visit...BUT I would so love to lose another 10K before I see her!!

Any tips for an accelerated weight loss (besides what I am already doing?!?)

It's possible, in the sense that "anything's possible."

But realistically speaking, it's not likely and especially not healthy. Fast and extreme weight loss causes yo-yo-ing that will almost certainly come right back on. A reasonable / sustainable pace is 1-2 lbs a week, so you could shoot for 8-10 depending on how well you manage your portions and exercise.

I'd concentrate less on the scale and more on just continuing what you're doing -- even losing 5 lbs makes a difference in appearance!

yeah i agree with arby. if anything, you are going to set yourself up for failure if you put such high expectations on yourself. the more quickly you lose, the more likely you will gain it back. you are doing so well. why not stick with what you are doing and keep that up? your mother will love you regardless and your body will like you even more.

It is absolutely possible for you to be under 200 lbs. by Christmas.

It is also possible to be about 160 lbs. by summer 2009.

If you lose the fat at this pace you will probally be thin/medium the rest of your life.

Your daughter will not even be able to recognize the Sam that once was. You will have to show her pictures and explain that you used to look different before you decided to get healthy.

Realistically speaking, you have the same odds of losing 22 lbs in a month as someone winning the lottery. Unless you completely stop eating, that is.

10 lbs is a much more realistic goal.

It's extremely unorthodox, but if you've got the will, there's a way. Maybe not 22lbs, but pretty close.

Thanks for all the wisdom everyone I think I will just keep walking along the path I am going..I am doing well...

Angie - your right, 10lbs is more realistic...winning lotto would be nice ;) hehe..

Outkast - wow VERY 'extreme'...not my cup of tea, I like my food! Don't think I'd be very satisfied having protein shakes and salmon oil capsules LOL

if you just started dieting, strange things like that could happen, like 8-12 pounds of water and 2 pounds a week (totalling 8), but as it is, not really. and you'd gain it right back anyway.

I agree and disagree with that; I think 1-2lbs a week is a lowball estimate. but it depends on the person. I honestly believe that this number is fueled by the fact that there's no money in a cure, the profit is in the treatment. The longer it takes you to lose weight, the longer you're paying for trainers, supplements and other stuff. I won't go into my own progress, but I'm certainly not the only "exception" to the 1-2lbs a week rule that I know.

Will I gain my weight back because I'm losing it too fast? No. Absolutely not. That's a decision that I'm making and, in the end, that's what it comes down to.

As far as people losing weight too fast and having that loss being primarily muscle, that's absolutely the wrong thing to do which is why I monitor my body fat; if that number ever goes up then I change up what I was doing.

Yes, Cliff and I are of like minds in this area. Just think of how many dieters/fitnessers would reach their goals if they only got to them faster.

I truly believe that while yes, the "slow and steady" approach works, it is also often a major deterrant to a lot of people trying to trim down--enough of one that leads to many average bears getting frustrated long before crossing the finish line.

Same thing goes for this low heart rate, "target fat-burning zone" business for cardio being "the best way". It's touted likely more for the ass-covering benefit of the gyms and trainers, (avoiding possible lawsuits), than for the maximum progress of the trainee. We are capable of so much more than most of us realize.

I think, (and again this is just what I've learned from my experience, to be taken with any sized grain needed), that for a reasonably healthy individual, (meaning no serious diseases or conditions), a combo of the right ratios of quality, (limited), calories, some MAJOR DAILY OUTPUT in Sweatsville, some cycling of calories and of course maximum mental and spiritual focus with a weekly letting up on the reigns for one lovely meal to celebrate with, all adds up to a pretty good formula for rapid success.

I agree with Minu...I think that a healthy individual can push the limits. Cycling calories is key if you are doing the low calorie thing...to avoid slowing your bodies metabolism long term. Mix it up...push the limits on the physical activity but remember that your body needs rest at times (and you should be able to read you bodies signals).

Can you lose 22 lb in 4 weeks? Only time will tell you that. Over the years when I have had the time, I have been able to lose weight faster then most people - but it has required dedication at the gym and at least one treat meal (or day) every week. I am actually trying something similar right now. I had a month of travel/hotel living from mid feb to mid march that waylaid my weight loss efforts (I think I lost 1-2 lb in that time frame). I am really trying to mix it up until I go to Cuba (from when I started I have about a 3 week time frame to try an lose the 10-15 lb remaining of my target). I lost 5.2lb this past week so something is working!

Good luck in whatever you decide to do!
