Ticks me off that since I've lost the 60+ lbs that the second half towards my goal is going to be WAY harder.

I'm losing less and less calories during my workouts even though I'm upping my performance CONSIDERABLY (I was so proud of myself in the gym today ).

I'm gonna end up having to work out at LEAST 6 hours a day to be able to lose the rest of my weight lol

Ok, I'm also VERY happy that I'm doing better, but geesh - it would be nice to be able to burn 1000 calories just by farting like I could when I was 330lbs

Don't give up, keep at it! Yeah, it's definitely slower the closer one gets to an ideal weight, but the changes are more noticeable too. Drop 20 lbs when you weigh 300 and, honestly, no one really notices. Drop 20 if you're 15% body fat and people won't stop complimenting you.

Seriously, you're looking for sympathy???

You're doing great, man, and you're going to continue to. Your hard work and dedication are obvious and this won't be quite as hard as you think.

Spyke,

Have you looked at changing up your workout routine? Being that your body may have adapted to your current diet and workout, you may need to shake things up drastically and get your body guessing again and force it to readapt.

I HAVE thought about that a lot - I try to mix it up, but I'm always tempted by the things I LIKE to do (love the elliptical but find I'm not able to get my heart rate up anymore, like biking but I might as well just sit and watch tv as far as heart rate is concerned... running (couch-to-5k week 4 right now) is still good and it's a great challenge though)

I'm thinking about moving to the stairmaster or rowing machine which I DO use from time to time, I just find them both... BORING

but hey, boring or not I just need to fire up the ipod and find some good movies/tv shows to watch while I'm doing them - then they won't be so boring...

As far as diet goes, I've been eating REALLY well for a long time now, not sure what I need to change there - I've tried to spike my calories from time to time so my body doesn't get complacent, but I have a feeling that it's mostly in the workout that I need the variation

Spyke, if you dig ellipticallin' so much, try using it a little off the beaten track, for instance, ditch the handles and throw in some speed bag boxing simulations while jogging on it. I often do that move for interval work and can take my HR from 140 to 175 in no time at all.

Same thing goes for any upper body moves while on that machine--small arm circles, tai-chi moves, trunk side bends to the beat, simple held positions, (like arms and palms up behind the back, held as high as possible, for as long as possible, etc).

I find air-drumming, (exaggerated of course), keeps my heart majorly engaged, (while visualizing and workin' on my drum chops at the same time ; ). Though in a gym, that might be a tad uncomfortable for the cool-o-meter...

Plus, regarding your already clean diet, maybe now's a good time to think about throwing in some calorie-cycling, and carb-cycling too? That stuff works WONDERS on this lil body.

It is with that attitude! Ha ha

Thing is as you get fitter the goals totally change. Weight loss got you this far, but it's going to take something bigger than that to push you further now as you've already lost the bulk of th weight which brings a kind of satisfied feeling.

I try to train with awesome gym partners so no matter how much I improve I know I have to aim higher and higher, to meet that level of performance.

I find myself cranking out some meaty routines then chastising myself for being unfit everytime I meet someone fitter. Appreciated, this won't work for everyone but I hate being beat so I continually put myself in a position where I'm the weakest athlete. Then, I have to raise my game!!

And you know what, I'm so busy trying to raise my game, I have no idea how hard the training was? My eyes were on the prize the whole way and the discomfort wasn't even a distraction.

(Rocky theme tune playing in the background with a quick mantage of classic training routines!) You gotta love it!!!

Minu - thanks for the suggestions on ways to increase your HR on the eliptical. Due to a small tear in my achilles I have been banned from higher impact activities for three weeks but am allowed activities like the eliptical and bike. I had been having difficult raising my HR over 160 to get into my target range on this machine. Any little bit of info can help. Although my PT worked with me on Saturday and I did get it into the high 160 then and yesterday I actually hit 170! Think I was po about not being able to run! Whatever works!

Sypke you are still dropping great numbers in the sexy by summer challenge...if you keep mixing it up you may never plateau! Keep up the great work!

You're welcome, Kathy. I too like the elliptical's gentleness on the ole joints.

And I still do use it the way it's intended to be used, only when I include the handles, it's usually for max-tension/heavy grunting interval work, and rarely for the long haul...

I've tried calorie-cycling (in my own unorganized way, usually involved an extra handful of walnuts or hazelnuts in the evening), but my calories go a little bit up and down anyway because I don't eat EXACTLY the same thing every day - how much should one swing to call it cycling?

And I've never tried carb-cycling. The bulk of my carbs come from veggies (bread only if I'm forced, work-related meetings and such) and I still manage to get about 40% carbs during a day - how can that be cycled?

I should have been clearer on the carb cycling--which is most easily done by upping the grain-sourced carbs and/or fruity carbs every few days, and keeping the lower days carb content to the leafy variety.

As for the cal. cycling, the BFFM method might do you well by keeping the cals. diet-level for 3 days, then upping them to maint. levels on the 4th day, (most easily done by increasing the carbs, (healthy ones of course), killing the two birds effectively).

I peeled off a good 20 lbs using this method.

Hmm, I keep seeing BFFM all over these forums - maybe I should look into it sometime, eh?

But, 3 days diet, 1 day up, lather rinse repeat you say?

Oh so THAT'S what the "cyling" thing is.

Thanks for 'splaining!

Cycle the routines and cycle the diet. Fascinating this stuff is, isn't it?!

It's a nice way to diet with something a lil extra to look forward to each few days.
