I support Barack Obama for President of the US. I've watched with dismay as the whole controversey surrounding his former pastor dominated the airwaves the past four days. And, I have to admit that I was worried that guilt by association would sink his campaign.
Today, he gave a speech that is being compared to Martin Luther King's I have a Dream speech. I have never seen a politician approach such a difficult and dangerous issue with such forthrightness and honesty. In my mind, Obama represents what is good and decent and yes, both hopeful and great, about the US.
Watch it. You won't be sorry....

I don't support Barack Obama. He went to that church as a member for 20 years. If he didn't believe what the pastor was saying or agree with him. He would have left a long time ago.
I do not support Hilary either. I think she should not be allowed to run for president because Bill has already ran. I think that should be a rule. If a spouse has ran and won you should not be allowed.
Mccain doesn't really have my vote either. But I'm a Ron Paul fan. Although the media never lets him get 2 words in. he's made the most campaign money over anyone else in this race.
Check him out sometime. Hes a very smart man.

What? why? Are they the some person or something? clones? Are you actually implying that Hill and Bill actually share the same ideals? You are aware the Bill f!cked around on Hillary...right?
Anyway, I was content in letting this post float away, it is opening a hell of a can of worms. Ever since Kucinich the Gremlin dropped out of the race I lost all motivation...namely because I like staring at his mega-hot wife.

I'm looking to lose about a hundred lbs in the course of a year, and basically to just consistently get better. And I love comments and messages, so keep 'em coming!
I talk about goal setting a lot, how about I actually set some?
Well it's time to revisit goals... I didn't do too well with my end of year plans, but learned some things and changed my plans up a bit as I went along. During the 5-7 weeks of the year, I was able to put on about 8-10lbs of muscle, and stay at the same actual weight. The plan is to start the Strong Lifts 5X5 program to supplement the Couch to 5K program, and that should last the next 8-12 weeks.
I'm updating goals as well. Lowering cholesterol remains a goal, and I'll find out about that at the end of August.
Been bouncing around a bit, but getting a little stricter again and will monitor that over the next 3-4 weeks. I feel poised to really lose some weight again, so I'm looking forward to the healthy eating and additional exercise.

I think Ron Paul is still there, but obviously without the Republican nomination. I will be writing him in as well. Though, ultimately, I'm just very frustrated with the way things are and it feels like the only peaceful way we have to change things (voting), is too biased to make any radical differenct.
I liked Kucinich as well, would loved to have seen a Paul/Kucinich ticket...

hopefully not. although the US is hyper-partisan at the moment, this community is extremely respectful. and if people make informed decisions on who they support--if they base their decisions on actual issues and ideas and leadership ability rather than who is best at insulting the opposition--, then they're being responsible citizens regardless of where they fall on the political spectrum.

yah, obama covers that in the speech. it's the first time i've ever seen a politician discuss the issue like an adult instead of doing what's politically most advantageous.

As a Canadian, I see a lot of American politics because it's over all of our news every night. I support Obama, but in all honesty I don't think most American's are ready for a true change and will end up voting Republican and out of all of the Republican candidates, I am glad McCain won.

I don't think he's officially dropped out, but he has stopped campaigning.
Of the currently available options, I believe Obama is the best option left. I would have preferred some of the snowball's-chance-in-hell Democrats or Ron Paul, but looks like that won't happen. Of course, I'm Canadian so it's not like I have a choice anyway :P

Is this a joke? If not, this statement is absolutely absurd. Claiming that Hillary can't be president because of her supposed guilt by association with Bill Clinton is not only absolutely ludicrous, but it's also intellectually lazy. This is the exact mentality that stifles industrial, societal, cultural, and intellectual progress and that propagates many of the evils that plague American society.

Unfortunatetly I think you hit the nail on the head there. This is unfortunate because I disagree with so many of McCains views.
I wont really say much. I don't like to dicuss politics with anyone but my fiance, causes too many issues. Not really a debate I like to touch.
SO I will end in... I hope america knows what they are doing.. because so far in the last 8 years I feel that we have made some really really really terrible choices. Either way a choice will be made, we will all make it work for better or for worse. So we'll just see how things go.
Happy voting! That is all.

Quoting: Bourblaster Hey, just a question here for all you Ron Paul fans, what exactly is it about his policy and grasp of our issues that you like?
1. Balanced Budget
2. Immediate withdrawal from Iraq and overall theme of 'no foreign entalglements'
3. Less Government
4. Strict Adherence to the Constitution
5. More individual (and state) freedom
1 & 5 being the most significant for me. First of all, our government has control of so many things in our lives, the American people have become dependent in many ways (and I don't just mean welfare, I mean enforced dependency). The faltering of the economy is a failure of the government to manage it's money, and consequently many of the ways we've come depend on our government, whether or not we should be, are in danger. This presents a problem to society as a whole and to many individuals.
Additionally, the government's money is our money, and it is mis-managed so severely that the USD is not even being accepted as currency in some instances (see recent reports about Amsterdam). This is volatile and devastating to the middle and lower classes. While the super-rich can hugely benefit from investment opportunities over the next few years, the rest of us may take solace only in the fact that our debt has less value.
Again, this isn't a political forum, but I just wanted to give you a (very) basic idea of what is driving my support this election.

Actually...It's not false. Why don't you look it up. You are probably getting your information from Fox News Or CNN. You should read on the internet. Look up Ron Paul. Look at his campaign. He is the smartest man to be president.
I don't agree with the war...Really there's no reason why it should continue. But you can't just pull the troops out at once. It would be complete Chaos. My husband is a Marine..and there will come a time..I hope not but there will be a day in the near future where he goes over there. Unless of course they choose a president who is actually going to pull us out rather then saying they will and never do.
I believe if Hilary wins..she'll keep us there...cause the more money she makes the longer were in war.

Opensecrets.org, an independent source, says you need to stop beating the pseudo-libertarian drum.
Ron Paul has Raised approximately 32 million, with McCain Raising 52M, Obama and Clinton raising in the 130M, and Mitt Romney raising 105M.
Next time, why dont you take 90 seconds and google search for an independent answer rather that taking your info right of Ron Paul's website. You'll find out a lot more about a candidate once you navigate away from their own hub.

Yes, the sensationalism is just that. Ron Paul set a couple records for money raised in one day (which may have since been broken by Obama, I'm too lazy to check), and his campaign finances were unprecedented in that the majority were raised via the internet from parties that were not officially affiliated with the campaign.
However, he is a fringe candidate and his campaign finances reflect that status.
That said, I'm hoping the differential in online support and support in the primaries was based on the likelihood that a lot of the support comes from people in my generation that have registered as independents. It will be interesting to see what the actual election really looks like.
I'm all about supporting your candidate, but do it intelligently and you may actually make some progress for him.

Hah, wow. You are retarded. And you know, I was thinking of debating further with you on this but based on your inability to know simple facts from the get-go, I think my time is better spent continuing to educate myself about the election on-line, on Fox News, on CNN, or on MSNBC.

k... I have not 'seen' the speech, but I just read it, and I have to say I was truly moved. These words speak to me personally in a way that inspires my desire to be true to myself, open, and to help others; some of the foundation that makes me who I am.
Unfortunately, a large part of me believes strongly in the individual, and is against having the government put sanctions on how we work together. This is the part that would vote for Ron Paul to run the country, whereas the ethics and philosophy of Barrack Obama might be more aligned with how I would like to run myself. Maybe I'm naive, but I would like to think we could do these things without them being law or enforced/encouraged politically.
I draw a distinction between how I would like to act (and would like to see other people act), and what government policy should be.
