I'm moving to Asia sometime around May 2008. I refuse to be the stereotypical fat American.

I'm basically trying to get in shape and be healthy...
diaryofthefatman.blogspot.com
I like participating in sports but I want to be more competitive. Also I'm with Kevin Spacey from American Beauty - good reason :)
I'm looking to lose about a hundred lbs in the course of a year, and basically to just consistently get better. And I love comments and messages, so keep 'em coming!
I talk about goal setting a lot, how about I actually set some?
Well it's time to revisit goals... I didn't do too well with my end of year plans, but learned some things and changed my plans up a bit as I went along. During the 5-7 weeks of the year, I was able to put on about 8-10lbs of muscle, and stay at the same actual weight. The plan is to start the Strong Lifts 5X5 program to supplement the Couch to 5K program, and that should last the next 8-12 weeks.
I'm updating goals as well. Lowering cholesterol remains a goal, and I'll find out about that at the end of August.
Been bouncing around a bit, but getting a little stricter again and will monitor that over the next 3-4 weeks. I feel poised to really lose some weight again, so I'm looking forward to the healthy eating and additional exercise.

Not much to say, I like playing video games and watching/playing sports. I work as a web developer for a small company.
I think when I get into shape I want to become a volunteer firefighter.
Goal: Lose 35lbs before Cardio King

I have no idea, and right now I don't fancy researching it. Don't think I know of anyone who has, though I wouldn't be at all surprised.

Well, No... but then I've never been in the middle of the atlantic in a tin bath before. Hopefully I'll be ok?? I read about a guy who once he had completed it couldn't walk properly for nearly a week. He'd be strolling along and then veer off sideways into a bush. I noticed that when I took a cruise to Stockholm from Helsinki. Every now and again I thought the floor was moving. Surreal.
You and Tim are crazy enough!! Why the hell not, ha ha

Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they haev to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary.
Impossible is NOTHING.
(I freakin LOVED that ad campaign)

Quoting: timwilson Doesn't that attract sharks?
Aren't sharks attracted by blood? If that's the case, you might want to see a doctor cause there shouldn't be any blood there...
Also, that's an awesome goal. I've set a tentative goal to qualify for the Hawaii Ironman pretty recently, but I'm still sort of on the fence for that... I'm typically not the type of person that gets "excited" for long distance runs; I've got a total sprinters mentality, but after hearing about your new goal it's revigorating my interest... but for me, it's mainly because it's Hawaii heh.

Now that is cool!! I hate cycling, and I'm not to hot on front crawl. However, I would love to do that one day. Go For It!!!! You'll kick yourself if you don't. And Hawaii!!!! Just think of all those grass skirts with your chiselled 6-pack!!!
Quoting: nicholman Perhaps you were on the booze cruise? When I took that from Stockholm to Helsinki, I couldn't walk straight either....
Now that makes some serious sense!! I was stumbling over the dancefloor, and up until just then I could have sworn it was the storm outside......or was it me?

I have started two new blogs, one to follow my running and a Quest to a Marathon at blog.262quest.com and one to follow my weight loss at blog.2big.org, please check them out.
I am an IT professional / Developer which means I sit in front of a computer most of the day. This means very little exercise and plenty of time to eat.
I decided at the first of the year that I was going to lose weight. I started by changing my eating habits and started walking.
I did so for about a month and then added some weight lifting and started to run a little bit.
I have so far lost 29 lbs in just over 3 months and would like to lose just over another 50 lbs by the end of the year.
I have started running quite a bit more and am training to run the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta on July 4th (10k)
I need all the encouragement I can get because to do this I am getting up every morning during the week at 4:30 to go running. With a wife and kids this is really the only time that I can consistently do what I need to do.
I am driven, but at times get a bit discouraged because I don't have anybody to work out with or run with.
All in All, I know I can do it, I just have to remember that when I don't do so well, it is in the past and what matters is going forward.

Wow, you better get going, you will need that to get away from the sharks..... and if you decide to swim it the next year you will get tired of the back-stroke.

Good point Tim.
I can swim for miles doing the breast stroke but it isn't gonna help me escape from Jaws or complete a tri-athlon. Will have to get some extra phys in down at the pool

Don't sailors believe knowing how to swim is bad luck on a boat? Maybe that doesn't apply to rowing though.

Get involved. Glovia would probably welcome you onto her team for the remainder of the campaign. Then we'll see what your made of!!
Mind you if you don't get in touch with her then we'll already know and it will be pointless taking any of your challenges serious in future. Ha ha

Just check out the UK v US running challenge and get in touch with Glovia. Either send her a PM or just join in the thread. It isn't an exclusive thing, it is there for all to enjoy and get involved.
