Well thought as i am a newbie i would come and say hi. The poison dwarf opps i ment the mother pointed in me this direction hoping it would encourage me and help me on my way to losing weight and getting fit. You just got to love mothers don't you !!!!!!! I am the odd one out in our family or in other words the fattie, even my parents at 50 + think nothing of a 15 mile run or 25 mile mountain bike ride over dartmoor for fun !!!!! And they wonder why i live over 250 miles from them?
Anyway stuck for words to write so will say hi as thats why i came in the 1st place and say bye till next time.

Words to live by: "Now's the time to grab the steering wheel of your life. Delve deep within yourself and take responsibility for your health and behavior. Ask yourself hard questions and face the truth of what needs to be done. Weight loss is not always easy or fair but you are the only one that can lose weight for you. Take a turn for the better!"
Goals: 1) Lose ~45 pounds 2) Work out at least 6 days a week 3) Eat healthier consistently
I will reward myself at the following weights: 240, 235, 230, 225, 220, 215, 205, 200, 195, 190
I will reassess my goals after I have met the above goals.

Success is not a race, be patient. Success leads to success. Success is always a work in progress. Success doesn't come to you--you go to it. Success is a journey, not a destination. Focus on the process. Some people dream about success... while others wake up and work hard at it. Success is achieved and maintained by those who try-and keep trying. Everyday is a good day to SUCCEED! If at first you don't succeed-try, try again

I started on a serious weight loss program in September of 2006. My starting weight was 242 pounds. I'm 5' 5" tall. My current weight is 180 pounds. I was determined to do it on my own - no paid programs, pills, etc. My goal is to be 165. As of 12/1/07 - I've met my goal of 165!. Now for 2008 I'm going to focus on maintaining. Any additional lost pounds will be a bonus.
New Year and I've decided to set a new goal. I'm striving for 145 pounds. 1/30/08 - down 5 pounds....

Hi Samantha! Welcome. I can relate to your situation in a big way. I was adopted into a very thin family (I mean very thin). All my life I was considered heavy in my family's eyes (even in my high school years when I really wasn't). My mom used to put me on diets, make me run and tell me I needed to loose weight. So, as I became an adult, I gained weight... and gained more weight - kind of like a self-fulling profecy (sp?). You want to see fat? I show you fat. Long story short, I met my birth family about 10 years ago and finally saw relatives that looked like me! I now had something to gauge genetically on what I was supposed to look like or could look like. My birth family are all of average weight. They need to watch because the tendency to gain weight is there. But they are not overly thin or heavy - just average... and now I know that I can be average too! I guess my point is, when people decide to get fit - they are successful when they do it for themselves - no one else. So... get in there and work toward improving yourself - for you! You are worth it!

wow thanks every one for the warm welcome.
I have been a good girl and tried and filled in my work outs ect but still confused by result charts, looks like brain will get a work out as well as bod!!
I must also say comments made re mother are comments of endearment she is my best friend and greatest supporter ( but still better off 250 miles away, then the nagging is only in short bursts over the phone !)
Next is the million daollar question how can i make this whole task of losing weight and getting fitter easier ???????

I'm basically trying to get in shape and be healthy...
diaryofthefatman.blogspot.com
I like participating in sports but I want to be more competitive. Also I'm with Kevin Spacey from American Beauty - good reason :)
I'm looking to lose about a hundred lbs in the course of a year, and basically to just consistently get better. And I love comments and messages, so keep 'em coming!
I talk about goal setting a lot, how about I actually set some?
Well it's time to revisit goals... I didn't do too well with my end of year plans, but learned some things and changed my plans up a bit as I went along. During the 5-7 weeks of the year, I was able to put on about 8-10lbs of muscle, and stay at the same actual weight. The plan is to start the Strong Lifts 5X5 program to supplement the Couch to 5K program, and that should last the next 8-12 weeks.
I'm updating goals as well. Lowering cholesterol remains a goal, and I'll find out about that at the end of August.
Been bouncing around a bit, but getting a little stricter again and will monitor that over the next 3-4 weeks. I feel poised to really lose some weight again, so I'm looking forward to the healthy eating and additional exercise.

Quoting: monarch Next is the million daollar question how can i make this whole task of losing weight and getting fitter easier ???????
Make it a priority of and a part of your life! In theory, this isn't difficult - if you eat well and get exercise, you will be fit. Working on slowly incorporating positive change in your life will become second nature, such that you will be looking for ways to fine-tune your diet and exercise plan in no time
Steven Covey said that it takes 3 weeks to form (or break), a habit. So, over time, this will certainly get easier. If you were to make a couple big changes that will be the bulk of what is necessary, start eating 5-6 smaller, healthy meals/day, get 30-60min of cardio 3-5X/week, and do weight training 2-3X/week. And for the first few weeks, don't allow any excuses to get in the way of accomplishing this!
