I'm 117 pounds. Healthy for my 5'4" frame. I stopped trying to lose weight months ago. I eat 2200 calories a day (give or take), a lot of which is carbohydrates (which should pack on the pounds-guess my teenage body can handle it). Yet I'm still losing some. I can't seem to stop it. This is something I'm dealing with on my own by trying to shove some more food down my throat.

My bigger problem is my mom. She's mad that I weigh 117 and wear a size 4. She said if I shrink any more she's checking me into a eating disorder rehab (I don't have an eating disorder-she sees me eat everything I can and knows that one of my biggest fears is vomit). And she still gets mad, and makes these threats. I can't get her off my case! Help?

If you're not hungry don't bother shoving more food down your throat. You'll get into a very bad habit which could give you grief as you get older.

I have a friend who's always been in great shape - she told me an almost identical story about her mom. Her mom would accuse her of not eating, and she said it was because she would eat a lot after school before her mom got home from work, and then when her mom got home she wouldn't be hungry...hence her mom thought she never ate anything.

You're saying that she sees you eat everything though. Research anorexia and bulimia and point out the signs that you DON'T show. Why don't you go to a dentist and have the dentist tell your mom that the enamel on your teeth is fine, LOL. Vomit wreaks havoc on your teeth. If you're starving yourself you'll also have horribly bad breath. There are plenty of other warning signs that I'm sure you don't have.

If in fact, you are eating everything in sight and are still losing a significant amount of weight, there could be a medical condition. There are plenty of resources online that could help you determine if this is in fact the case.

I agree with Angie, if you are still losing weight and eating as much as you want, you should probably see a doctor to make sure that you don't have a thyroid condition.

I'm pretty sure it's not a medical condition, as a lot of the foods I enjoy are naturally low in calories (such as fruit-I eat like 2 apples, an orange, and some blueberries on my cereal, as well as broccoli, chicken, and yogurt). Honestly, I'm pretty sure it's because I tend to over-estimate the calories in food (90=100 to me).

I've pointed that sort of thing out to her-she constantly tells me that she better not hear a toilet flush while the shower's running (god forbid I get the urge to pee while the water's heating).

if you dont need to count calories... DON'T! just make sure you are eating until you are satisfied and no longer hungry, and also make sure you're getting enough protein, fiber, and "good" fats with all those carbs eating more when you're already full is not a good idea. i'm on a diet that says i should take in 1650 cals (per "up" day) and usually, i get to about 1400/1500 to be completely full.

oh and, maybe you should go to the doctors, to a) make sure you dont have hyperthyroidism or some similar disease process, and also b) to prove to your mother that you are telling the truth and that it is *most likely* just your young metabolism. (in which case - i'm so jealous!!!)
