So ever have one of those days? Today my doc told me that I need to lose weight. For some one like me who pretty much stays in denial about my weight and doesn't really consider it much a health thing, but more of a fitness thing, that was a hard blow. Now the what if's are hitting. What if I can't do it? What if I try really hard and it's not good enough? What if I actually do it an then just bounce back up like have twice already? Sorry to be such a stick in the mud party pooper, but I just am feeling pretty down. Tomorrow will be a new day and with it will probably come a new better attitude, but for now I'm wallowing in my own pity party.

I'm a plant enthusiast dedicated to eating whole, fresh foods. As for exercise, I regularly participate in: swimming, water aerobics, yoga, the elliptical machine, the stair stepper, running, and weight training. I try to switch up my routine a lot so that I don't get bored. My biggest obstacle to weight loss is eating when I'm lonely or sad, but I've started keeping a list on my fridge of other things I can do to occupy my time. So far it's really been helping!
Aside from health and fitness, I was married in December 2007 and am enjoying being married and decorating our apartment. I am currently finishing my last semester as an undergraduate, and hope to begin an English MA program Fall 2009. I love reading, quilting, cooking, hiking, swimming, decorating, gardening, and striving to protect the environment. I'm also really pleased that Barack Obama is going to be our next president.
Let me know if you need a motivator! Good luck in your health and fitness efforts!

Success is not a race, be patient. Success leads to success. Success is always a work in progress. Success doesn't come to you--you go to it. Success is a journey, not a destination. Focus on the process. Some people dream about success... while others wake up and work hard at it. Success is achieved and maintained by those who try-and keep trying. Everyday is a good day to SUCCEED! If at first you don't succeed-try, try again

Hi guys my name is Imran, and I am sophomore college student at Texas AM University. i gained about 30 pounds my senior year in high school and have kept it throughout my 2nd year in college. I been going through so many problems with inner issues. I am ready...ready for a change, and be the person I always knew I could be and will be.

Rachael we both damaged our bodies by gaining weight, but what we are doing is not easy at all. Knowing your taking the proper steps to be the person you want to be is just beginning. Don't get down, because think of the progress your going to be making and are currently making.

Rachael, you'll reach the goals you've set for yourself. I know it's difficult. I sometimes have those days to. There is something that I always try to remember on those bad days. I have faith in myself and I know I'll reach my goals. My journey is not a matter of 'if' but a matter of 'time'. I can't fail and neither can you.

dont give up rachael. your doc was being honest with you and only trying to help you. yes, im sure it was hurtful to hear. no one wants to hear that. you know how to lose weight, there is no reason why you cant do it. you are probably having one of those down days that we all have. remember i can be done -you have been there before.

I have been working out regularly since Sept 07. I've been here several times in the past BUT this time the change is going to last a LIFETIME!!
I am the mother of a ten year old competitive figure skater (which takes alot of my time). I work fulltime and my hubbie works away. Time is a challenge!!!
I would like to lose 20lbs by July 1.
I resolve to: Short term (by June 1, 2008): 1. Get back on track after my vacation in Cuba (April 7 - 16, 2008) 2. cardio 5x/week including trying to get back to running if my achillis tendon will ever heal! 3. weight train 3-4 x per week 4. Drink 64 oz water per day (this will be the biggest challenge!) 5. Obtain a Normal BMI (154 lb)!
Midterm Goals (by July 1, 2008): 1. Continue with short term 2. Try to increase mileage to run a 10 km race around Canada Day (July 1, 2008) 3. Try to find a 10 km race to run between June 15 - July 15, 2008 4. Obtain goal weight (currently set at 150 lb but maybe 144 lb) - BMI around 23 5. Continue weight training
Long term (By March 31, 2009): 1. To still be at this in 12 months time (the exercise and health habits not the weight loss part!) 2. To maintain a BMI of around 23! 3. To run a half marathon...if all works out...Myrtle Beach Half Marathon Feb 2009

OK Rachel what's done is done. We can't change the past (or the what if's) but we can change the future. You just have more motivation now to make the change and substain the change. Not only is it fitness now it is health as well.
You can do this! You just have to shake it off and move forward to a slimmer, fitter healthier Rachel!
You have us to help you!

Bah Rachy poo at least your doctor was nice about it... mine threw me on a treadmill and dangled a cookie in front of me... sad thing is it took me 15 minutes to get the hint
Remember health and fitness is a lifestyle ... it should be fun... yeah at times it gets discouraging just like this last week has been for me (trust me... I hate horrible this week). You will bounce back just try and stay positive... don't make me come there and show you what a real fatty looks like
.... I still never got that cookie...

Thanks for the encouragement everybody. I'm sorry to be such a drag. I really am already feeling better. My work out was helpful. I'm glad that have such great friends here to help me out when I'm feeling down. And, Ara, I don't think anybody's ever called me Rachy poo before. Haha. Did he really bait you with a cookie? Well, enough wining, I have a triathlon to train for. I really want to finish that thing. Only 10 1/2 weeks away!

Words to live by: "Now's the time to grab the steering wheel of your life. Delve deep within yourself and take responsibility for your health and behavior. Ask yourself hard questions and face the truth of what needs to be done. Weight loss is not always easy or fair but you are the only one that can lose weight for you. Take a turn for the better!"
Goals: 1) Lose ~45 pounds 2) Work out at least 6 days a week 3) Eat healthier consistently
I will reward myself at the following weights: 240, 235, 230, 225, 220, 215, 205, 200, 195, 190
I will reassess my goals after I have met the above goals.

Ay yi yi...I've been where you are Rachael. My doctor just looked at my charts and said flat out, "you need to lose the weight."
My jaw stayed on the ground for about 5 minutes. Ouch!
And today was a bad day for me too. Whoops...emotional eating got me. Oh well...like everyone said, tomorrow's a new day.
Come on Rachael, we can do it! WOOO!

http://anotherfatguy.wordpress.com/ I'm looking at a total weight loss of over 130 lbs (60 kg for those of you in Europe like me...), from 150 kg to 90 kg (330 lbs to 198 lbs). I'm a 36 year old man and am REALLY tired of... well being tired.
So far I've been training like a mofo, and have totally revisited my diet - so far so good, 1/3 of my goal HAS been met - YIPPEE!!
Have met some great people here, and looking forward to meeting even more here on traineo - don't be afraid to bombard me with motivation - I'll take all you can give me :)

MY doc wasn't as nice. I came in with my complaints that I thought he would give me a nice diagnosis for (joint pain, migraines, stomach problems...)
His diagnosis?
"You're fat".
Gotta love the medical profession! lol

Don't focus on the problem, focus on the solution.
Einstein once said 'That a problem can't be solved on the same level in which it was created' meaning that you have to raise your consciousness above the level of the problem.
The very fact that you are motivated to get in shape proves that you have already raised your level of awareness beyond the level at which the problem began. Fantastic!! Now I would like to say this. Your body is not a product of who you are, it is a product of who you were. Now you know that you have raised your level of consciousness, guess where the future you is? Thats right, breaking old limits and exploring new ones.
So don't spend too long associating yourself with what you see in the mirror. It isn't the real you, it is a product of old habits and old choices, that you don't live by anymore. Look through the layers and see the real you shining through.
Thats right, you're coming to the surface!! And with each day that passes the real you will begin to reveal itself more and more.
Well, unless of course you'd rather keep all the old habits and thinking patterns that got you to this point so far?? Of course you don't, it isn't you anymore is it!!

The power of positive thinking. Don't sucumb to your doubts and the 'what ifs'. You can do it if you really want to. Your biggest barrier is inside your head.
Set yourself an ultimate aim, then smaller goals as stepping stones to that aim. Break down your weight loss requirements into achievable chunks, then you are having lots of little successes instead of one ongoing difficult task. Give yourself a hearty pat on the back each time you reach your small goal.
Most importantly, take the first step to the rest of your healthy, happy life!

When I moved up to Massachusetts and got a new doctor he actually had the nerve to poke my stomach and say "you are pretty fat you need to lose weight". No lie, he actually said those exact words.
Lets just say I never went back to him.
I responded to him by saying, "Oh really, well thank god you just poked me because without that I would never have known" lol.
