Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they haev to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary.
Impossible is NOTHING.

Quoting: rach_1623 One thing that has helped for me is putting my alarm on the other side of the room, forcing me to get out of bed to turn it off.
That never works for me; I learn to tune out the alarm and end up sleeping through them both.
I'm really trying to train myself to get up early enough to get to the gym before work, but it hasn't happened yet. I don't need to be in before 9 or 10, which most people hear and think "that's easy!" but as it is, I find that I simply cannot fall asleep until around 2 or 3, even if I'm in bed trying to sleep by 10.
I'm honestly thankful that I'm even getting as much sleep as I do right now though; my girlfriend of 9 years and I split up very recently so sleep was pretty inconsistent for a while; I was starting to worry about the lack of rest/recuperation time coupled with my increased gym intensity (which started before she left, I just didn't let myself use her as an excuse to let up.)
Folks tell me that now isn't a good time to try to restructure my sleep habits, but I don't believe in putting things off for tomorrow; now is always the best time for anything.

I'm a plant enthusiast dedicated to eating whole, fresh foods. As for exercise, I regularly participate in: swimming, water aerobics, yoga, the elliptical machine, the stair stepper, running, and weight training. I try to switch up my routine a lot so that I don't get bored. My biggest obstacle to weight loss is eating when I'm lonely or sad, but I've started keeping a list on my fridge of other things I can do to occupy my time. So far it's really been helping!
Aside from health and fitness, I was married in December 2007 and am enjoying being married and decorating our apartment. I am currently finishing my last semester as an undergraduate, and hope to begin an English MA program Fall 2009. I love reading, quilting, cooking, hiking, swimming, decorating, gardening, and striving to protect the environment. I'm also really pleased that Barack Obama is going to be our next president.
Let me know if you need a motivator! Good luck in your health and fitness efforts!

Yeah, the drive is killing me (and the gas expense is making me poorer). I'm on the hunt for a new job even as we speak.

Interesting this thread started up again when I was just thinking I needed to update things!
I started out thinking I'd try the workout in the evening plan, because I'll do whatever I can to avoid getting up earlier. Then my failing treadmill went totally kaput, and I had no choice but to run outdoors again. I had the choice between dark early morning or dark evening, because I too have an hour commute to work and back. Since there seem to be more cars at higher speeds (everyone wants to get home fast!) in the dark evening, I figured morning was probably best.
I started getting up last week, but I did not actually run one time in the morning. It was crazy-cold (something else I really hate), and my previous injury had me nervous about running in the dark. So I ran and walked on my days off (Thur., Sat., and Sun.), planning what routes I would take.
I had grand plans this morning, but not only did I not run, I failed to get up. I set the alarm wrong and was almost late to work!
Like Clifford, I will sleep straight through an alarm set across the room, including my foghorn alarm. I have a clock with three different alarm types on it, which I switch every so often, so I don't get used to any one of them for too long. I set one of them for a different time and forgot to check last night when I set it.
It was rainy this morning anyway, and I'm still worried enough about the ankle not to want to run on these hills in the rain.
I did run this evening. The weather is like spring out there!!! We're supposed to hit the 60s tomorrow. I am making sure my alarm is set properly and plan to try this morning thing again then!

http://anotherfatguy.wordpress.com/ I'm looking at a total weight loss of over 130 lbs (60 kg for those of you in Europe like me...), from 150 kg to 90 kg (330 lbs to 198 lbs). I'm a 36 year old man and am REALLY tired of... well being tired.
So far I've been training like a mofo, and have totally revisited my diet - so far so good, 1/3 of my goal HAS been met - YIPPEE!!
Have met some great people here, and looking forward to meeting even more here on traineo - don't be afraid to bombard me with motivation - I'll take all you can give me :)

I'm most definitely a night person. If I had my way I'd be up until 2am every day and wake up when I felt like it. Reality is another story.
I start work at 8am, but I need to work out before that so...
I get up at 5:30 every day, and I'm out of the door by 5:45. At the gym from 6 to 7:30 and then it's off to work.
Normally I'm in bed by 9pm.
And know what's amazing? Since I began working out, this regime works GREAT for me - I have so much energy during my work day that I surprise myself! Before, waking up at 7 with no training I had to drag myself around until I could come home and get to bed. Now I irritate everyone with my cheery mood and energy level lol!!

Oh Spyke, you almost make me want to come over and throttle your cheery little neck right now! Seriously though, it's good to hear other sworn night owls who are able to tough it out and get up early. I'm getting there. It's not easy, but I am!

Does anyone have my probelm at all? Sleeping TOO Much?
I used to be a person who didn't need much sleep a couple of years aog, but I gues I like being in a warm cosey bed, I stated before that I can go to bed around 11-12.... and wake up all the time at around 10. What's wrong with me? I used to go to bed at that time and wake up at 7 easy.

Success is not a race, be patient. Success leads to success. Success is always a work in progress. Success doesn't come to you--you go to it. Success is a journey, not a destination. Focus on the process. Some people dream about success... while others wake up and work hard at it. Success is achieved and maintained by those who try-and keep trying. Everyday is a good day to SUCCEED! If at first you don't succeed-try, try again

I am a night owl and used to go to bed around 12 or 1am. My wife and I recently started this thing that no matter what we are in bed at 8pm watching tv and what not, and once it hits 9:30 we are sleeping. I wake up at 5:30am so this gives me around 8 hours.
I was able to make this change once I gave up soda and started going to the gym right before bed. We usually eat dinner around 5:30pm and are at the gym at 6pm. That way from work and the gym I am nice and tired when I get home.
So far so good.

I have started two new blogs, one to follow my running and a Quest to a Marathon at blog.262quest.com and one to follow my weight loss at blog.2big.org, please check them out.
I am an IT professional / Developer which means I sit in front of a computer most of the day. This means very little exercise and plenty of time to eat.
I decided at the first of the year that I was going to lose weight. I started by changing my eating habits and started walking.
I did so for about a month and then added some weight lifting and started to run a little bit.
I have so far lost 29 lbs in just over 3 months and would like to lose just over another 50 lbs by the end of the year.
I have started running quite a bit more and am training to run the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta on July 4th (10k)
I need all the encouragement I can get because to do this I am getting up every morning during the week at 4:30 to go running. With a wife and kids this is really the only time that I can consistently do what I need to do.
I am driven, but at times get a bit discouraged because I don't have anybody to work out with or run with.
All in All, I know I can do it, I just have to remember that when I don't do so well, it is in the past and what matters is going forward.

I am working hard to lose about 20 lbs and tone up. I enjoy running, tennis, and doing cartwheels. I am trying to get into yoga and climbing. My biggest obstacle is quitting smoking, followed closely by my love of all things both crunchy and salty.

I have tried many times to wake up before 8:00 regularly, to no avail. Can't do it unless I *have* to for class/ a job. I know I can exercise later in the day, so it's just not a motivator for getting the heck out of bed!
On the insomnia note, though, I have probably ten nights each year that I just can't fall asleep. I found my solution: Calms Forte. It's a homeopathic supplement, used for occasional insomnia and anxiety.. it works perfectly, and I've never had any side effects whatsoever. Just an idea!
