I'm basically trying to get in shape and be healthy...
diaryofthefatman.blogspot.com
I like participating in sports but I want to be more competitive. Also I'm with Kevin Spacey from American Beauty - good reason :)
I'm looking to lose about a hundred lbs in the course of a year, and basically to just consistently get better. And I love comments and messages, so keep 'em coming!
I talk about goal setting a lot, how about I actually set some?
Well it's time to revisit goals... I didn't do too well with my end of year plans, but learned some things and changed my plans up a bit as I went along. During the 5-7 weeks of the year, I was able to put on about 8-10lbs of muscle, and stay at the same actual weight. The plan is to start the Strong Lifts 5X5 program to supplement the Couch to 5K program, and that should last the next 8-12 weeks.
I'm updating goals as well. Lowering cholesterol remains a goal, and I'll find out about that at the end of August.
Been bouncing around a bit, but getting a little stricter again and will monitor that over the next 3-4 weeks. I feel poised to really lose some weight again, so I'm looking forward to the healthy eating and additional exercise.

Well, in the spirit that there are no failures, only results...
I've determined that if I have 6 drinks, I will smoke
Had a few too many last night, and the desire became a bit unbearable after a few glasses of wine and a few more black and tans... Broke down and smoked the rest of the night, for which I am none too pleased. I'm upset at myself, but I do just have to suck it up and quit again. Here's to Monday, when all that nicotine will once again be out of my system.
sorry.

There is no such thing as failure, only data, only results. That's from BTFFTM, right?
Now you know if you drink too much you're likely to smoke.
Me too by the way. If I have a few beers I certainly won't mind a cigarette. I'll mind the headache and trash mouth in the morning, but that's a long ways away.

Dave,
Its been a year and a half since I quit smoking for the last time.
Before that, I wanted to smoke when drunk, depressed, happy, after eating, after sex -- basically, I just wanted to smoke -- until I didn't want to.
I'm glad that you found a trigger. Now, find away to uncock the gun before shooting.

You'll do fine and like its been said, don't dwell on the slipups, modify your behavior/actions based on knowing what caused them

Each time you quit takes you closer to the big one.
Hope you enjoyed each and every billowy puff, every O blowed.
I still miss it, but I know that it's just too high of a price to pay, so boom.
Bon Weekend, mon ami,

I've been interested in losing weight and gaining muscle here at traineo since late 2007. Its not until mid 2008 that i've actually started my training routine 5 days a week. Trying to get to under 19% body fat.

We're all here to help! Splint's right, there's no such thing as Failure. It's just a little relapse but that's it. You can start again by quitting, and then you should be happy because at least you're not continuing to smoke. As in, at least you're not making the decision "I'm going to smoke again because I just had a relapse and feel really bad", you're going to stop smoking and this time you're going to beat it Just watch out for the causes that might trigger it ;)

the Hounds dirty, dirty secret exposed to public scorn: i smoke over a pack a day.
and i'm not ready to quit. man, is it going to be a struggle. i anticipate it being a quadrillion times harder than eating right and exercising daily. i also think any half-assed attempt is going to end in abject failure. to quit, i'm really going to have to want it down deep.
good on ya, dave, for taking the plunge... and as other people have said, one transgression does not equal failure.

i enjoy being active, maybe sometimes too much. i run almost everyday, i walk my dog, bike, play tennis and swim.
i need to control my eating habits and learn to eat healthy again.

it's okay. you probably just needed to get it out of your system one last time. try not to think about it (hard to do) and just move on.
i know you can quit again.
just remember... people don't really like smokers unless they're already smokers. i went into my grandma's house tonight adn it was awful. it smells bad, and makes you smell bad.
just remember what it does to you physically next time to reach for it. my mom quit a long time ago and now the smell of it makes her sick.

As with most things, you're going to suffer setbacks every so often. I used to always want to smoke when I drank, but I've even gotten past that now. I really had to stop thinking about what I liked about smoking and really focus on the things I didn't. We all know it's bad for us, but it's the more immediate things that helped avert me from doing it (ash tray mouth, smelly clothes, residue on stuff, cost).
Glad to hear you're back at the quittin' business! That's the important thing, right?

I am back on the wagon and not too worried, this isn't that hard it's just a pain sometimes.... And I won't be going out drinking only a week in again!
