i thought 2008 was goign to inspire me, but it's just a date, and i need the feelings inside to change to change myself.
i need to change my everyday eating habits, and i don't know how. i need some suggestions and help guys.
and some motivation!
please, help me get back to that amazing feeling of having my pants not fit anymore, and feel good when i look in teh mirror.

I am an Air Force Officer stationed in Florida. I have always struggled with my weight but I currently weigh 15 lbs more than I ever have in my life...this needs to change.

Don't let a minor setback get you down. By losing 15 lbs you have proven you have the willpower and determination to do it.
As you are well aware fitness and healthy living is a lifestyle choice that is often hard but well worth it. I like to take one day at a time and try to meet my goals although I do not always succeed. The important thing is not to give up because you gained some weight back or slacked on your workouts. Every day is a new opportunity to start fresh.
Like you, I (and many others) had minor setbacks during the holidays. There will always be challenges (whether it is because of holidays, hectic work/school schedules, family commitment, etc) but if you have a setback just realize that is part of life. Learn from it and move forward. Good luck.

Get out there and rock it, J.! You know how to do it, you LIKE doing it, so get back in the groove and kick that arse.
A natural athlete like yourself will take no time to regain your form, so the sooner you begin, the sooner you'll be back.
Clean out that kitchen and load it up with all the healthy choices you like, hit the trail and enjoy a fastwalk or a jog, (or a bit of both).
Maybe invite some of your +++ friends over for a veggie stirfry feast and surround yourself with the spirits that inspire you.
My dad always used to something when I'd be getting down about whatever, and it went like this:
ME: Whine, wahhhhhh, I just feeeel soooo, ehhhhhhhhh...
DAD: WHAT is it exactly that you're feeling down ABOUT?
ME: I'm having troubles with __________ , I'm just not making any headway, and wahhhhhhh...
DAD: Well get out there and DO __________ . You must simply DO the thing that is bothering you.
Sounds simple enough, but when we got the blues, we have such a talent for making the simple, difficult. (At least to see the simple).
Here's a hamster-hug, ma belle:
I know that you'll be back on your most impressive game soon.

Everything is 80% why and 20% how. If you are struggling to motivate yourself then you don't have a big enough reason to hit these goals.
They do this with business MD's who can't hit target. They say if I kidnapped your family and held them at gunpoint until you doubled your turnover. How long would it take to hit your goals? People soon think outside of the box when the reasons are big enough.
Also, don't try so hard to change. There is nothing wrong with you. You already have everything you need to hit these goals so just be a better person.
I'm in this space at the moemnt so here is my experience. I've always dedicated my attention and energy to learning about all aspects of personal development and I'm very happy with my journey. Now I'm aware that I've never given any attention to building my wealth and I would like to have nice things. Now I don't need to change to become a rich man, I already am the kind of guy who lives in nice houses and drives nice cars in exquisite clothes. By BEING that person, all my goals are already mine. Sounds a bit far out there but I know what I mean. I don't need to become someone I'm not to get to where I'm going. God gave me that vision and he also made the man I need to be to get there. If I waste my energy trying to change then I'm missing the point.

I'm basically trying to get in shape and be healthy...
diaryofthefatman.blogspot.com
I like participating in sports but I want to be more competitive. Also I'm with Kevin Spacey from American Beauty - good reason :)
I'm looking to lose about a hundred lbs in the course of a year, and basically to just consistently get better. And I love comments and messages, so keep 'em coming!
I talk about goal setting a lot, how about I actually set some?
Well it's time to revisit goals... I didn't do too well with my end of year plans, but learned some things and changed my plans up a bit as I went along. During the 5-7 weeks of the year, I was able to put on about 8-10lbs of muscle, and stay at the same actual weight. The plan is to start the Strong Lifts 5X5 program to supplement the Couch to 5K program, and that should last the next 8-12 weeks.
I'm updating goals as well. Lowering cholesterol remains a goal, and I'll find out about that at the end of August.
Been bouncing around a bit, but getting a little stricter again and will monitor that over the next 3-4 weeks. I feel poised to really lose some weight again, so I'm looking forward to the healthy eating and additional exercise.

You were doing awesome! A short break is just that, and it's in the past now if you're ready to put it there. Draw the proverbial line in the sand and step over it; become what you want to be and don't worry about the last few weeks because that's NOT who you are!
You are athletic, active, and knowledgable about training and nutrition - you are someone we've all looked to for answers and inspiration in the past and that hasn't changed.
I look forward to seeing you here more often!

I was just talking about this subject elsewhere, because I was frustrated with myself for not continuing my workouts for nearly three weeks in December. I was dealing with a ton o' soreness and frustration in not being able to do what I could previously do.
I can tell you the first step is to stop flogging yourself over this. It's done. There's nothing you can do to change it now. You will not make any progress until you let go of what's done. Feeling bad about something that's already happened keeps you looking back. When you're looking back, you can't make any progress at all. You're facing the wrong direction! As dumb as it sounds, I consciously think to myself that it's OK. Once I accept everything, there is no reason to continue dwelling on it and beating myself up over it.
Next, you have to start over. Yes, AGAIN! If you only knew how many times I've started over myself! It's unbelievably frustrating, but the choices are to start over or not. You've done all this before. You do know how, so stop telling yourself you don't. Don't get caught up in perfectionism and telling yourself you weren't doing this or that right when you were actually doing something and experiencing success with it. Don't nitpick what was actually working. Once you get going and feel like you're back in the groove, that's the time to tweak what you were doing and figure out what's working and what's not. Criticizing the method you used to achieve previous success will only keep you stagnating.
Look at where you were when you started last time, and start there, not where you were when you stopped. Do not compare your current self with the self that was working out regularly and eating better. Do realize both of those people are you though! It's just a matter of action and choices. You are that lighter version of yourself right now if you just shift your behavior and thought process.
You don't have to start everything all at once. Take small steps and give yourself credit for doing so. Take a walk, drink a glass of water, leave half of those fries in the carton this time, and then build on those small accomplishments. Tell yourself you can do this, because we all know you can!

Minu,
You're a lifesaver there! I absoltly love that quote you shared! It's absolutly true!
I have a really big problem at the moment, my partner and I could be sitting at home and I'd ask "What do you wanna do" and he's like "I dunno" then when I think... I don't really know what to do because theres a few things going around in my head. May seem suprising but it's really frustrating because it happens so much, I wanna do something but I don't know what. So now i'm thinking... bah I don't know if I wanna train or not.. and the answer is JUST DO IT!
Thanks so much! You motivated me moreso!
