Hi, just introducing myself.

My motivations for joining Traineo are numerous. I'm overweight. Tipping the scales at 135kg, I'd be a Clydesdale if I was a horse. I'm also about 6'4" so I cast an imposing shadow. I also wear out shoes like they are going out of fashion.

However, more worrying is that most of the weight is carried around my middle which is just asking for heart disease to set in. My family also has a history of heart-related deaths. I also have two great sons and a great wife who all deserve to have me around for a long time yet.

My weight-loss odyssey was kicked off a few months ago when I decided that I would start running after years of sedentary activity. It was a nice idea but it was the middle of winter when I started and running round the local streets in the rain and dark soon looked less interesting.

So I thought about joining a gym. Luckily for me, a local gym here in Wellington was opening a new gym out near our home with a great joining deal. My first gym workout was this morning (6am) with some light cardio and fat-burning on the X-trainer, treadmill and cycle. I'm aiming to go fairly frequently so it becomes a habit.

I used to mountain bike an awful lot when I was younger but with settling down in the 'burbs and having kids, spare time to devote to cycling became the exception rather than the norm. The gym has a brand new tiered Spinning room, which looks pretty fun. They have a Wednesday night intro class (30 mins) which takes you through the basics and bike set up.

So anyway, that's a bit about me. Look forward to talking to you all in due course.

Welcome to Traineo Rob. It sounds like you are well on your way to better health! Good luck and let me know if you need a motivator.

When I started my current job I weighed 57 kilos; now I'm at 70+. I was too skinny before, according to most, but it felt so much more like ME! It's not very motivating when everyone around me keeps telling me, 'You look great now, you don't need to lose any weight.', while I myself feel like a blob. So it was either hanging out with my model friends (and they ONLY talk about food!) or Traineo, and I am very happy, as it seems I made the right choice. ;P
