I'm getting ready to head to Las Vegas for a week, and I'm worried about being able to keep up with my diet and exercise. We're staying at the MGM, which I'm sure has an excercise room, so I should be covered there. What I'm more worried about is food - I know we'll be eating out a lot at places with amazing food, so it's going to be hard to not completely gorge myself. We're going for my sister-in-law's 21st birthday, so I'm sure there will be lots of drinking too.

So...anybody have some good ideas on how to have fun in Vegas without completely killing my diet?

Oh man... both Tao and the Cheesecake Factory in one city block... that's the devil's own work! *grin*

I'm not sure what diet you're on, but one of the great things about Vegas is the AMAZING variety! I'm a low carb/low fat diet kinda guy, so I try to stay away from carbs. If I'm going to cheat a bit, I make sure it's with things like protein that I know won't make me gain much weight. So my advice would be this: if you feel like you need to indulge a bit, then go ahead, but have a nice big steak, not a dozen donuts ;) Just relax a bit with the foods that you know are safe

Keeps us posted, let us know how it's going. Especially let us know how you're doing at the tables!

Good luck! (at the blackjack tables as well as the dinner tables)

BTW, my wife and I stayed at the MGM a couple years ago... what evil genius puts a 24/hr McDonalds right at the bottom of the guest elevator so it beckons to me all night long? DAMN YOU RONALD AND YOUR TASTY TREATS!

Thanks for the message Ryan. I'm not doing any specific diet, but mostly just trying to "eat right" (though I do try to stay low carb/low fat as much as I can).

I'll do my best at sticking with the protein as much as I can, but I don't think I'll be able to resist the tasty temptations at the Cheesecake Factory

I had a really hard time in Las Vegas trying to eat even semi-healthily.

We were in one fairly upscale restaurant when I asked for my vegetables NOT to come with butter added, the waiter looked at me as if I was some kind of idiot, asked me to repeat it, then of course they still came with the butter on them anyway!

Good luck!

I just ate little bits of this and that. There's so many fun places to eat - why eat much? Have an appetizer and enjoy! Good luck!
Cheers,
Ellen

I made it back from Vegas yesterday. I didn't do so well at the game tables, but I did pretty well at the dinner table. I managed to drop another 3 pounds last week, which was probably helped by all the walking up and down the strip every day. I also got food poisoning in the middle of the week (at the Bellagio, of all places), so I didn't eat much for about a day and a half...no fun at all.
