Hello, I am a fairly new traineo user but have been browsing the forums a bit since I've joined. Anywho, for my first topic and question: Does anyone follow (or have even been to) NewsTarget.com? They make some fairly big claims like many natural news sites, and I'm wondering if any of you traineo users follow their general advice or take any of this seriously?

Some recent debatable topics include: Top ten things food companies keep from you, Red meat doubles colon cancer risk, and last but not least FDA has strong ties to Big Pharma. So, any truth to it all?

I'm sure there is a certain amount of truth to what they say, but you do need to eat something...

I refuse to be scared of food, but I prefer to know where the food I eat has come from. Where was that fruit grown, does your butcher know where his meat came from, why are you eating that processed powerbar snackette?

So if you need something to buck you up, to get yourself asking more about food, then I'm sure it's a good thing. Just don't get scared - if red meat caused colon cancer, the entire population of Argentina would be crawling around grasping their stomachs and groaning. The FDA has strong ties to Big Pharma - what next? 'Ford admits collusion with Big Oil Shock'?

I agree with Christopher here,

People get so caught up in the 'conspiracy theories' thing, its a load of crap. Try and eat clean ingredients, not prepackaged food, organic ideally (i never do, far too expensive), and everything will be great.

Don't let yourself get hysterical about some paranoid nerd in his bedroom, ranting at how corrupt the 'MNCs' are... grrr its so tiring

Nick

The site (and many other natural/vegan sites) really goes over-the-top at times, the people start to sound like conspiracists no doubt. I'm just trying to find out what is really going on and what holds truth.

I still think far too many people buy into (or simply give into) the massive amount of BS media/adverts for our tons of processed foods. They are really everywhere and inexpensive, way more so than fresh, basic staple foods like lean meats, fruits and veggies. So at least these kinds of articles question us about what we are really eating.

Thanks for your points of view and laughs, btw!

i think the truth lies somewhere in the middle. i do personally think (and have little doubt) that the FDA is corrupt, that red meat is not good for you, and that large food conglomerates often keep information from consumers in favor of enlarging their pocketbooks. however, i also think that the people trying to bring these issues to light are doing it in an often sensationalistic way that isn't 'palatable' to the common reader who's used to NBC news or the like.

Thomas, just know that we got here through thousands of years eating off the dirt and killing animals and we're all still here. hehe. In your area there should be small bands of people that still like to buy straight from the farm and like to support local farming, regional traditions, and cultivation. Check out http://www.slowfood.com/ and see if you can find a convivia in your area. Nothing beats buying straight from the farm and just plain knowing where your food came from and how it was treated on the way to your table. Otherwise a lesson I learned a long time ago is take everything as a grain of sand and build a castle you can call home. Nothing is permanent and the tides of truth shift from year to year. Find a place you can call home and live.
