So I got my measurements and BF measured again today, and there's good news!
Chest 42 to 40.5 (always from the boobs first :down
Waist 39 to 38.25
Hips 42.5 to 43.5 (??)
Thigh 21.5 to 21.25
Calf 15.75 to 15
Bicep 12.5 to 12.5 (flexed 13.25 - didn't measure that last time)
BF 37 to 33.5!!! That's a loss of 3.5%!!! At 186 lbs and 37, I had about 69 lbs of fat, and at 181 lbs and 33.5% BF, I have about 60.5 lbs of fat - which means I lost 8.5 lbs of fat and gained 3.5 lbs of muscle! Go me!!!
(Btw, I hope I don't sound like I'm bragging or anything, but I really depend on the encouragement, motivation, and even praise from you guys here at Traineo because I don't always get it other places. You guys are awesome!!! )

Words to live by: "Now's the time to grab the steering wheel of your life. Delve deep within yourself and take responsibility for your health and behavior. Ask yourself hard questions and face the truth of what needs to be done. Weight loss is not always easy or fair but you are the only one that can lose weight for you. Take a turn for the better!"
Goals: 1) Lose ~45 pounds 2) Work out at least 6 days a week 3) Eat healthier consistently
I will reward myself at the following weights: 235, 230, 225, 220, 215, 205, 200, 195
I will reassess my goals after I have met the above goals.

I'm a vegetarian, trying to be better at eating whole foods and exercising 6 days per week. I've been off this site for a while, but I think I'm back for the long haul. Wish me luck!
My rewards for goal weights:
200 pounds: Order a body fat % calculator (I've been wanting one for awhile)
190: I can buy $40.00 of books that I've been wanting lately
180: He'll buy me a wedding band (we just recently got married, and at first I didn't want one to wear with my engagement ring, but I've changed my mind. So now we're making it a reward).
170: Professional full body massage (If you've never had this done, DO IT -- it's amazing).
160: New clothes (because my old ones -- even my old skinny clothes -- probably won't be fitting at this point).
150: Here's the grand prize -- we're going to go to either Africa or Europe! My husband grew up in Africa, and we've been talking about going for a long time. He has a lot of family there, and he hasn't been himself in several years. However, if that doesn't work out, then we'll go to Europe for a couple weeks. I'm SOOOOO excited, I've been wanting to go back for years and now I've finally convinced him to go!

I'm losing weight for my health, energy, and for my friend's wedding so no one mistakes me for Ms. Piggy's sister.

Yay! (Clapping wildy!) And you did all of this while you were sick too! CONGRATS!!!
Just curious, what was the time frame? EDIT: Just saw it in the title, duh.
I think you've just motivated me to go measure myself now.
It's so crazy how wildly measurements vary from one individual to another. My Chest-Waist-Hips measurements as of a few days ago are 42-31.5-46. I guess I have most of my fat in my butt, haha. My waist is shrinking the quickest for me though. At this rate I'm going to look like a circus freak in a couple of months.
Congrats again!! Whoo hooo!!!!

I'm a grad student. I am trying to lose about 20 lbs to ease my knee pain.
I do cardio/weights 4-5 times a week. I also bike 7-8 miles on my daily commute. I love to work out, but boy do I love food, too... :-)

Congratulations Rachael!
This has inspired me to go seek a body composition test... Even though I am a test technician at my school (meaning I administer body composition tests to others), I have never had one done for myself....
And your post is not bragging at all. Congratulations and I hope the success continues!

Over 100 lbs in a year! Husband, father of four, pastor... Time is something that I do not have. But life is essential to living :)
In March of 2007 I was over 250 and couldn't breathe or move very well. Moving off of sodas helped me drop 30 pounds in three months. Now it\'s time to get in shape and make my future a healthy one for the sake of myself and my four children and wonderful wife!
Now I have more energy than in years and look better than ever (well, that's subjective :))
I just finished my Sports Nutrition and Personal Training Certification so off to the mentoring races I go!
May 2008 I started doing a five day extreme exercise and weight training that can be done in your home for little investment.
Please let me know if you have any questions or just want to talk. I am here because I want to encourage others to keep working, you can lose the weight.

Rachel,
YES GIRL! Way to go! Great of you to log these measurements. It was measurements that kept me in the game because I could never 'see' any results in my mirror LOL
Way to go. You are an encourager your self, I wish I had been involved during my early days with the forums, just didn't know there was real life in here!
Keep it up!

My real motivation is to fit into the size of pants I was before the 3 kids. I want to be healthy and look good for myself and my husband. I WILL lose 50 pounds this year.

Thanks everybody!! I don't know why, but on here, I totally don't mind talking about my weight, BF, dieting, exercise, but with my friends in real life (like that I actually see and hang out with) I definitely don't feel comfortable discussing that stuff with a few exceptions. I mean, they know I'm doing the tri, but they didn't even know that until like a week ago or something. I'd be pretty mortified if they found out my BF was 33.5%. Anyways, point being, I'm glad that I have all of you guys here on traineo to encourage me. It is really made a difference. You guys rock my face off!!!

http://anotherfatguy.wordpress.com/ I'm looking at a total weight loss of over 130 lbs (60 kg for those of you in Europe like me...), from 150 kg to 90 kg (330 lbs to 198 lbs). I'm a 36 year old man and am REALLY tired of... well being tired.
So far I've been training like a mofo, and have totally revisited my diet - so far so good, 1/3 of my goal HAS been met - YIPPEE!!
Have met some great people here, and looking forward to meeting even more here on traineo - don't be afraid to bombard me with motivation - I'll take all you can give me :)

well done girl! It goes to show that measurements and BF% are moe crucial to tracking weight loss gain than the scales, you've lost nearly twice as much fat as the scales show! (Which hopefully explaines why my scales havn't budged all week

I am a student in university so we all know what that means....
The freshmen 15 increased to 50, but that was over 4 years. I finally made it to the gym at the end of September and haven't looked back.
23 pounds down, 27 to go.

I feel the same way. My friends see that I am losing weight but they don't know what I started at. Some know how much I have lost because I don't mind telling them, but I don't tell them how much I weigh.
Being tall (for a female) I am always going to weigh more then I look no matter what. When in highschool I weighed 145 (I was a swimmer with a lot of muscle) and I asked friends how much they thought I weighed and they all said something like 120 to 125.... and I was no where near that.
But on here I don't mind telling all of you.
Since I started my BF has gone from 38% to 27% and BMI from 30 (almost obese) to 26.2. That's great for me. But all of this is from when I started working out in the beg. of October. I am getting everything done again on Thursday and the stats I just mentioned are from a month ago so I am excited to see if there has been more change!

I have been working out regularly since Sept 07. I've been here several times in the past BUT this time the change is going to last a LIFETIME!!
I am the mother of a ten year old competitive figure skater (which takes alot of my time). I work fulltime and my hubbie works away. Time is a challenge!!!
I would like to lose 20lbs by July 1.
I resolve to: Short term (by June 1, 2008): 1. Get back on track after my vacation in Cuba (April 7 - 16, 2008) 2. cardio 5x/week including trying to get back to running if my achillis tendon will ever heal! 3. weight train 3-4 x per week 4. Drink 64 oz water per day (this will be the biggest challenge!) 5. Obtain a Normal BMI (154 lb)!
Midterm Goals (by July 1, 2008): 1. Continue with short term 2. Try to increase mileage to run a 10 km race around Canada Day (July 1, 2008) 3. Try to find a 10 km race to run between June 15 - July 15, 2008 4. Obtain goal weight (currently set at 150 lb but maybe 144 lb) - BMI around 23 5. Continue weight training
Long term (By March 31, 2009): 1. To still be at this in 12 months time (the exercise and health habits not the weight loss part!) 2. To maintain a BMI of around 23! 3. To run a half marathon...if all works out...Myrtle Beach Half Marathon Feb 2009

Congratulations!! Way to go...keeper comin'!
This is the type of positive reinforcement that people need to hear Rachel so no...you are not bragging. You should be singing from the roof tops!
It is a lot easier to be honest with people on here that share our battle then with alot of the people in our lives. Most of my friend do not know my stats and would be shocked (as well) to hear how much I weighed at my heaviest as I too "carry my weight well".
I find the liberty to be honest makes me own up to the full scope of the problem as well. Giving voice to your issues allows us to begin to deal with them (my chocolate addiction).
We need to hear the successes so we can celebrate with you and use it as inspiration for our own battle!

Thanks Splint and Kathy!!
Kathy, I totally agree with you. It is waay easier to be honest on here. It's almost like "I'll show you yours if you'll show me mine" kind of thing. And owning up to the issues and posting my stats every single day helps me so so much with motivation. I know that I will have to come here and post my diet so I am much less likely to eat that piece of chocolate that will put me over my 1750 Cal.

I have started two new blogs, one to follow my running and a Quest to a Marathon at blog.262quest.com and one to follow my weight loss at blog.2big.org, please check them out.
I am an IT professional / Developer which means I sit in front of a computer most of the day. This means very little exercise and plenty of time to eat.
I decided at the first of the year that I was going to lose weight. I started by changing my eating habits and started walking.
I did so for about a month and then added some weight lifting and started to run a little bit.
I have so far lost 29 lbs in just over 3 months and would like to lose just over another 50 lbs by the end of the year.
I have started running quite a bit more and am training to run the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta on July 4th (10k)
I need all the encouragement I can get because to do this I am getting up every morning during the week at 4:30 to go running. With a wife and kids this is really the only time that I can consistently do what I need to do.
I am driven, but at times get a bit discouraged because I don't have anybody to work out with or run with.
All in All, I know I can do it, I just have to remember that when I don't do so well, it is in the past and what matters is going forward.

One Year 19 Lbs lost.
For December 07 to December 08 the job is to lose another 17 lbs.
-- Coming up for nearly a year of Traineo. 22 lbs lost, 13 to go!
What a year! I want to thank Traineo and it's members, and my doctors and friends, and gym, and my walking and running training partner -- my dog -- who all have have been a big part of my recovery from a bad case of pneumonia last August, from high blood pressure in May and June, and support through herniated cervical discs in July August and the present.
Somehow, its been possible to keep the faith and keep going through the neck and arm pain, but even on some of those bad pain days, getting the exercise at the gym, on a C25K run, on a bike ride, or in the surf helps make it bearable.
A year ago -- at least sports-wise, for life is altogether another thing -- I was losing my sense of identity as a surfer and windsurfer, gaining a sense of identity as a cyclist, a runner, 9 months later reentering the surf, losing my ability to ride ... things came and went between hospital visits.
At times, all those things were stripped away -- and just to be able to walk down the block was an accomplishment. There were recoveries and sometimes just advil and bullish efforts.
It's good to be back in the surf and on the bike sometimes, neck/shoulder/arm pain notwithstanding.
My thoughts go out to all those Traineo members out there fighting their own health and spiritual battles...you know we are here in this small way.

Gonna be? ... Is already!
Good idea taking those measurements when you started. It's nice to see progress ain't it? Great job RM.
As for chocolate ... a not-so-secret secret is 85 % cacao Lindt, a couple of squares now and then. It's easy on the calories, good with flavonoids and studies show it has positive effects on blood pressure.
The more you get into this lifestyle, the less taste some get for sweet things, and the better some things start to taste that don't have much sugar in them.

Success is not a race, be patient. Success leads to success. Success is always a work in progress. Success doesn't come to you--you go to it. Success is a journey, not a destination. Focus on the process. Some people dream about success... while others wake up and work hard at it. Success is achieved and maintained by those who try-and keep trying. Everyday is a good day to SUCCEED! If at first you don't succeed-try, try again

Oh boya, what have I done...?
It's being sold in supermarkets more and more. Some places are having a hard time keeping it in stock. There's been an explosion in brands and varieties.
This is why:
Here are some links to explore.
http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?ident ifier=3032114
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15190043
http://www.webmd.com/news/20040601/dark-chocolate- day-keeps-doctor-away
SOME YOU CAN FIND IN STORES:
Lindt Excellence 85% Cacao Extra Dark chocolate is but one of many from Lindt. (I'm loooking at a bar right next to me -- i only had a 2 or 3 squares today, at least I'm pretty sure that was all.)
Lindt Bittersweet chocolate or the Ecuador 75% is a nice intro., until you are used to higher cacao content and less sugar.
Ghirardelli has some,
Hershey's has a Cacao Reserve Extra Dark out now
Cote D'Or (with the elephant on it) may be one of the ultimates for a special treat.
