To better explain my question, I believe most of weight loss is mental, so it requires a big change in your day-to-day thinking to be and stay successful. When I'm doing well, I am much more positive in just about everything, even little thoughts. I can stock my house to the rafters with healthy foods, but if I'm in a negative state of mind, I will drive to get something bad. I always like to hear the thinking behind the tips that helped people achieve success. You've obviously made a permanent shift, and I'm curious what some of the changes were.

cindy-well i had to and still do alot of self-talk and tell myself i am worth it and i deserve it and i can do this. sometimes when i am working out i make little challenges for myself and i tell myself this isnt so hard, whats 5 minutes in the scheme of things? whats 1 hour in my day? more recently i have made a list of challenges and goals for myself and i update and check them off when i complete them. i have made a list of reasons of why i want to get fit. i made a list of affirmations that are of the present tense (even though they might not have occurred). i stop myself when i see that i am comparing myself from others because to "compare is to dispair" and i remind myself that the only one i have to and want to compete against is myself. so, i guess what has helped me the most is to not be a harsh critic and to be a good self-talker if that makes sense. let me know if that doesnt answer your question.

That's fantastic, thanks! I think it helps so much to hear those things as well as the usual tips about diet and exercise. Since you've done so well, you're a great person to ask! I often have to remind myself to do these types of things and still have a way to go.

Ready for the Sexy By Summer Challenge? I am really excited!! The take it off challenge was a great starting point for me on losing weight. I didn't meet my ultimate goal, but was still happy with the end result. I am setting a new goal for this contest at 120. Good Luck to all....We can do it!! The name of the contest just gets me excited!! : )
OK...I will finally enter my profile. My cousin Angie, who is also one of my closest friends, talked me in to joining this contest. Losing weight stinks, gaining is not a problem. My weight has gone up and down ever since I had children. My goal is to get down to 125 and maintain. Thanks Angie for talking me into joining, it's nice trying to lose with other people. I enjoy reading everyone's post. It's motivating and fun!! Good luck to all!!

cindy-thank you for making me "think" of those things. it is so true that the mental part of the dieting and exercising is a big key to the weight loss. i still have have many more goals i want to achieve and alot i need to work on in terms of firming my body too! keep up your great work as well. i need to remind myself often as i did today in the gym to keep pushing-i have to be my own motivator and be on my side and not work against myself b/c i can easily be the harshest critic!
dreama-thanks-i appreciate it. you have been inspiring as well!!

Hello everyone. I'm new to your site, and I stumbled here accidentally today :-) I read many of your posts and was inspired to join. I weighed 305 lbs in 2002, and I weigh 165 lbs today. I've been at this weight for over 3 years. I am not looking to lose additional weight, and at 5'9, I'm happy with my size 10 clothes. I started working out since May 2007, and my focus is now on improving my health and fitness. I hope to find inspiration and support here with you and offer the same to you all. Happy New Year!

I love cooking, reading, going out with friends, i love life and i want to loose weight as a challenge to myself because i know i can do it. I did loose 2 stones in 2007 but put it on again by not looking after myself. As a New Years relsoloution i kept a target to loose that weight again and change my whole lifestyle.
|
# Posted: 6 Jan 2008 02:05
hiya Jen,
Your story has really motivated me to loose weight. i had lost 2 stones last year but then i put it back on again this year. i just started exercising again last week and was eating fruit and veg and was exercising 40 mins to an hour a day and lost two kilos, but then i started to become less motivated again. reading your story has really inspired me to keep at the exercising and healthy eating.
Thanks, and congrats on achieving your goal.

http://anotherfatguy.wordpress.com/ I'm looking at a total weight loss of over 130 lbs (60 kg for those of you in Europe like me...), from 150 kg to 90 kg (330 lbs to 198 lbs). I'm a 36 year old man and am REALLY tired of... well being tired.
So far I've been training like a mofo, and have totally revisited my diet - so far so good, 1/3 of my goal HAS been met - YIPPEE!!
Have met some great people here, and looking forward to meeting even more here on traineo - don't be afraid to bombard me with motivation - I'll take all you can give me :)

Wonderful tips, Jennifer! I started eating my kids Halloween candy in October and then eating even more poorly over the holidays...bottom line, I ended up gaining back the ten pounds that I had lost last year. Your blog has inspired me to get back on the wagon!

hi sarah- i am glad i motivated you. whats amazing is that you haven'T given up. we all could lose weight but the fact that you put it back on and are trying once again to take it off shows that you are strong and that you are a fighter. i am glad i inspired you. people like you inspire me to keep going as well.
spkye-yes, it can be done. i never thought id have to say "i lost 100 pounds" b/c i never thought id get that fat and i never thought being that fat that i actually would be able to take it off. it can be done. i still have a long way to go. i know i keep saying that-i have to keep reminding myself of that even though i have come far (i have to keep hearing that too). you can do it too. it is hard work but you are worth it. remind yourself of that!!
elizabeth-glad you liked the tips. ughh-halloween candy. i look at it and can gain weight! so happy you are back on the wagon again! keep it up!!!!
WE ARE ALL WORTH IT! WE ALL DESERVE TO BE HEALTHY AND GOOD TO OURSELVES! KEEP FIGHTING!! DON'T GIVE UP!

Brandi Mazies
Hi, everyone. My name is Brandi. I'm 26 years old and am going to marry my best friend in the world, David. I had lost 40lb, was 7lbs away from my goal, and a few personal issues came about...
I went from walking 4 miles a day, 6 times a week and up/down 14 flights of stairs 2 times a week to nothing and gaining all my weight (and then some) back.
I have recently been diagnosed with patellar tracking disorder that does not allow me to do many stairs or run at all. Therefore, I am forced to walk, bike, weight training, cardio and use the elliptical which allows me many options.
After missing my last goal, I want to get it straight this time. My wonderful fiance has lost a lot of weight as well and has run two half marathons and a triatholon. He has another one in February and it running the Ironman 70.3 in October. I can't do what he does but I at least want to be able to join him in being active. I want to be healthy with him. :-)
My goal is to be at my ideal weight 3 months before our wedding day; August 15, 2009. We have already made a pact that I will NOT get married unless I meet this goal. That means some pretty pissed off guests if I don't. So, I have a lot of motivation now and can use even more!

I'm 41 and work as a software consultant. I live near Washington DC. I work out seven days a week, two of those days include racquetball. I plan to lose 28 lbs and get my body fat percentage down to 20% in around 60 days. This year if I can maintain those two stats, I will have accomplished my goal! Good luck everyone!
